Title: DIY Electric Reel Advice
Post by: jo5hm4n on May 06, 2020, 12:02:19 pm
My DIY Electric Reel is almost 100% perfect, i've had time at home to fully take it apart and redo it all, its almost spot on i had to file down 4 of the bolt heads on the sprocket and it has left the heads a bit rough.  Can anyone recommend what i can use on this to make it better, WD-40?  Or some some of lubricating oil/polish?

Also do any of you ever oil up your chains just so it runs a bit smoother?  If so what products do you use.

Just dont want to use something that will cause more harm than good longterm, i was hoping WD-40 would do the trick!

My reel is a DIY Electric Aluminum Frame Clover Reel.

Thanks  :D

Use a bit of light oil  2in 1  oil thats all I use . Don't over tighten the chain ☝

I use a bike chain oil ‘lube’ - you can order some online.

Does the trick with the chain, it’s also worth cleaning the chain every now and then before fresh oil.

As said above, chain being too tight can be a problem, you want a bit of slack in it to run smoothly 👍🏼

What about this oil?

WD40 isnt really a lubricant, GT85 is to an extent and will be better.

I would use a cycling chain "wet" lube, stop it rusting if you want to be posh.
