Title: Waste certificate!!??

It may be obvious for some, but for me it was a bit of a surprise when I was asked to produce a waste certificate. ??? :)

My clent told me that in the city of London every cleaning company has to have one, and that he might be prosecuted for hiring a company without one.

Can someone tell me more about them?? :)

Especialy how to get one :D

Met with an electrician the other day and got talking about the Part P regulation...

They have to register at the cost of £500 p.a. take a course to learn what they already know and then pay £3 for every certificate they issue.

Will it ever end?

Post by: Fox on July 09, 2006, 08:36:25 am: Hi - Check with your client that he isn't getting mixed up with femine hygine bin disposal, you will need a certificate for this, I imagine you use their bins for general rubbish so if you don't change the fem units you are ok. If you do take general rubbish off site to dispose of then you will need a cert, (even householders can get prosecuted if a workman hired by them to dispose of items fly tips!).

I'll have to double check on Monday with the client.

They have a separate company for the femine hygiene bin, we only have to take general rubish to the big bins outside which are provided for the whole building.

it seems that even build cleaners on some developers are now looking at Part P, its something that we are looking into, but not for our present works

Post by: Flood School on July 10, 2006, 06:53:48 pm: A Waste Transfer Licence is available from the Environment Agency. It's for the transportation of waste from site to a disposal location, usualy via a vehicle. We needed it for removing carpets and laminate flooring etc. after flooding.

I got ours a couple of years ago, it's really easy, but I think the price has recently gone up! It's usualy valid for a few years and you need to keep a copy in every vehicle you own that is transfering waste. I'm surprised that you need one for just taking the rubbish out?

I need a waste transfer note from the corporation of london, and prepaid waste bags.

They are 1.20 each so not the cheapest ;)

Part P is for electricall instalations in domestic properties. It's now needed by anyone particulary electricians, who wire or alter the fixed wiring in houses.
Why would a cleaner need part P?

You still need this although you don't take rubbish from the site? This baffles me a bit! Do the business not pay rates and get their bins emptied or pay a waste company to empty their bins? In my opinion it is not down to you to pay for the removal of their rubbish unless it is in your original costings. How many bags a day do they produce? Personally I think the client is pulling a fast one!

The Corporation brought in the prepaid waste bag scheme just about two years ago. The price you pay for the bags includes for its removal by the City of London. You just have to agree with them a place and time it will be left for their collection.

On my City contracts the client provides the bags. But some clients often just don't know what the deal is. If you didn't allow for this expense in your original costings you may want to explain the situation to them.

I'm matching the price of previous contractor, so I can't add anything on top.
