After guys hope everyone’s keeping safe and well.
What’s everyone’s go to generator for there gutter vacs?
I’m after a compact generator to power a 3000w vac but want the smallest one possible as we all no what a pig it is shifting a vac a genny around properties.

Needs to be 6kva - at that power they are all on the heavy side
Stephill are first class - had mine (6.5kva) 10 years with only a capacitor needing replacement
Kgs genny's are a lot cheaper but are a bit heavier I have an 8 kva from them, again no problems and that's 3 years old

As you could well know its the starting demand that determines the size of the gen set. A 3000 watt vacuum can have 2 x 1500 watt motors or 3 x 1000 watt motors. Starting them slowly one at a time effects the gen set size required.
As Darran says, you need a 6kva gen set.
Back in the days we used to sell a 5.5kva gen set to drive a 2800 watt concrete paving breaker.
I have a small 1500w gutter vac. I asked the supplier to advise a size of gen set for this. The manufacturer did numerous start tests, the highest peak draw was 5.2kva.
There was a supplier who used a 1400 watt vacuum cleaner and suggested he used a 2kva gen set to power it. This goes against the rule of thumb in the industry that starting a vacuum cleaner motor takes around 3 times the running current.

I have a 1400w vac too , I was aware of the rule that Spruce speaks of , I went round a few hire shops with my vac to blag a gennie test before I bought one ;D
I ended up having to buy a 2.8 kva Clarke from machine mart

Blimey! I bought a 2Kv genny from Aldi six years ago for £185 and have run a 1400w gutter vac from it ever since.
No one told me it wouldn't work! 🤣

Why not look at the skyvac intercepter Honda engine no gennie or electric needed they are an awesome bit of kit and weight is less than a genie , best bit of kit I have bought in a long time .(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1588197627_053AB87B-C400-41BE-9762-134286B2B838.jpeg)(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1588197626_D3106EDB-5E90-4ADC-AD8D-CB5DC9BCA700.jpeg)

They fit soft start to Bosch heavy duty 230v, 2400 watt 9" angle grinders in South Africa according to one of my colleagues I still keep in touch with. I have an old 9" 2200 watt grinder and it often trips the 20 amp trip switch in the garage.
The soft start is apparently integrated into the switch. I did at one time think about this as it would mean a smaller generator set. Then there is the option of adding starter capacitors but that is out of my field of expertise.

Nick Day used to use a 2kva generator set on the 1400 watt gutter vacs he used to sell.
