Title: Booster Pump Again....
Post by: Fieldsy on April 25, 2020, 04:30:03 pm
My little Chen booster pump (originally £80) which has lasted a good 5 years (on a 4040) finally gave up the ghost and was starting to leak and finally stopped altogether. I searched for my previous threads and found the recommendations from Spruce and Mark G, and also that there were some pumps available from Poland.  I followed a link that was posted, https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/21006589886 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/21006589886) and for the price looked well worth the money. Unfortunately the guy couldn't get one in stock until May/June time, but recommended for my needs this one.     https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBO-1-WZI750W-Electric-Garden-House-Mains-Boosting-Portable-Water-Pump-pond-pool/182182381616?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Which he said would give a constant 80psi.

Now, for the price, I thought I would give it a go. Suffice to say, all connected ok, running a low pressure 4040 membrane, and currently producing 1000 litres in just over 4 hours.  I don't need it running 24/7 so every 4 hours is fine for my needs. Just my 2 penneth  ;D   If it lasts as long or half as long as the little Chen I'll be more than happy @ £55. As a footnote, the Chen pump has now been priced at £162 from the same supplier I got it for £80!!!!!!, who shall remain nameless.

The only thing that concerns me about that pump is the cast iron body and rust contamination in the standing water between uses.

A fellow windie has a cast iron transfer pump and sends the first few gallons of water to waste before filling his van up.

Thanks Spruce, good point. I would have gone for the other pump, but needed it asap. For the extra £15 would probably be worth it. The little Chen pump actually started leaking rusty water before it stopped altogether. .....so obviously it's probably an issue. At the moment this little 55 quid jobbie seems to be doing fine......time will tell.
