I've now been self isolation for the past 3 weeks now and I have to be honest I'm really p****d off with it.
Unfortunately I can't risk going to work because my wife has COPD and I'm 67 too'
I have worked all my life since I left school at 15 years old, never been on the social and always paid my taxes etc.
In all my years I've never know anything like we are going through at this present time, yes we had different governments, recessions and even wars, but this ??
When I left the army in 1975 I took on a job as a milkman and in the afternoon I went out and did a bit of window cleaning for my customers just to help pay the mortgage. A year or so later I left the dairy and went full time cleaning and started a good business employing 2 young lads.
During this period there were good times and bad times but we just cracked on and worked though it but we never saw anything as near as what we are currently witnessing.
I work because I choose to and not though needs, however I have never been so bored in all my life and hope that this virus gets sorted out so we can all get back to normal.
Most people would say, "what about hobbies" yes I do have 2 hobbies, one is motorbikes the other is a passion for antiques neither can be pursued at the moment.
Good luck guys whether you are working or not and most importantly STAY SAFE

Hang in there, Jay.
I've done three weeks, too, and I have thought about going back but I don't know whether I should or not.
I don't know whether it'll do more harm than good. At least the gardens look a bit tidier.

Ditto G, I have been able to buy a few things on fleabay to improve our garden, it's never looked so good as it does now LOL

Doing a bit of gardening then, that’s all I’m doing when I go to work still just walking round a garden colouring in windows 🤣

Hi Jay. Some hobby ideas.
If like me, all you can do is start up your motorbike and not run it - unless you count a little run for a couple of miles (hardly worth it) to obtain an essential item then how about doing something else.
There is a site called Duolingo which is great for learning a foreign language. I started learning a language back in December with a bit of night school but that is postponed and Duolingo is a life saver.
Now I am a nerd - order an Airfix kit from their UK site - at the moment the on-line shop is open. Don't forget your paint and glue. Hours of nerdy fun!
Even worse - a model railway - get on the Hornby site and buy that Flying Scotsman set you always wanted. Build a baseboard and make a station and village for it to run through. Toot Toot!
Now antiques - I've had good fun with my brother's help (nerd emperor of the universe) in getting an 80 year old electric office wall clock working again. It sits in my office and "clunks" every 30 seconds.
If that doesn't work there is always beer in the garden with a chimnea going in the evening.
Enjoy!

Hi Jay,
Similar to you mate, at home.
69 now and at the moment banned by my partner. I have a 11 year old son so plenty to do, camped out in the garden last night! Plus the usual gardening and house chores.
It’s great to have the Family time but enjoy the job, running the business etc and want to work as well.
My partner is still working, finishes at 2 so maybe looking at 2/3 hours when she gets home.
Government guidelines are pretty clear now but have requested the official ok from Government- see what comes back.
Good posts- I’m going to start french again, thanks.
All the best everyone, Happy Easter.
How big is Dazmonds Easter Egg?!!
-
Jay - a tip - Airfix is more aircraft and ships; Revell and others might do motorbikes.

Your son will remember and treasure "camping in the garden" in decades to come. My youngest is home from Uni in London at the moment due to CV and its been a blessing in disguise.
Yesterday we even got her old bike out the garage and dusted it off. First time in about ten years since she went on a bike ride with her old dad up the Avon gorge to Bristol Dockside and back!
-
That’s really good, having the time is wonderful. We are certainly making the most of it, like you.
Even Home Schooling was fun!

Hi Combat, so I'm not the oldest window cleaner in the world, when do you contemplate retiring?
-
Hi Jay, cheeky!
I won’t be retiring by choice mate, got a younger partner and a young son, But and it may upset some on here! I don’t want to, enjoy the challenge and variety. Been doing Joe Wicks so might manage to keep going a bit longer ha ha.

yeah know what you mean, I have no intention of giving up as I really do enjoy working, I will only stop when I can no longer physically do the job, hopefully at least another 5 years

Unfortunately we are at that vulnerable age (around 70) and can't take chances with our own health or life.
I'm also self isolating, mainly to keep away from some younger ones who aren't taking this virus seriously.
There was a report that this could go on for years. The Spanish flu, although not the same, went on for 3 years killing people and they were practising 'herd immunization'. They didn't know it was called that and they also hadn't heard of self isolation or flattening the curve.
I have asked myself if I will ever get back to work, and if we do, what will our window cleaning round look like. We have a large number of over 70 customers on our round. If my son and I have to self isolate well into the future, how will this work? We certainly won't be able to work together.
-
Yes its getting a bit crap now, dying to get my motorbike out for a blast in the sunshine
Feck you corona
-
I haven't been working since the lockdown began either. In my case I'm not really getting bored at home as I'm introverted by nature anyway plus I have several interests I can still do without going out like gaming and writing. Can appreciate it must be pretty boring for a lot of people though.
-
Hi Jay. My partner has COPD too. Ive had 3 hart attacks to. I phone my customers night before. I have put more on bacs or they leave payment in envelope somewhere.
I might speck to couple customers through closed window but most just wave to me.
It's a worry but down here I hardly see anyone. For me the worry be when they start lifting the restrictions is when people start coming out again.
I'm deffenatly not going to be shacking hands again and wont take coffee's of customers again.
Stay safe mate, I understand your thoughts.
-
Personally I dont think we re gonna be able to stop this disease so its gonna get to a point where everybody will have to just go back to work and get on on with their lives and try and be safe as possible......
My dads now back home after 2 weeks in hospital.....so he s survived coronavirus with stage 4 lung cancer!so most people will get over it.....without dying....
-
Do you think you’re one of those ‘most people’ Dazmond?
-
Spain and Italy are resuming construction / manufacturing but they are about 2 - 3 weeks ahead of us so I think this Thursday we will get an extension to lockdown.
Like any crisis it brings out the best and the worst in people. Two good, regular payers have skipped payment and are ignoring requests to pay. I can understand they may be hard up but they could at least explain.
On the other hand got a text from a customer "Hi hope you're both OK. Don't know if you are cleaning windows still, we expect you aren't but just to let you know we won't cancel the regular payment and look forwards to seeing you again."
-
Do you think you’re one of those ‘most people’ Dazmond?
Hopefully but I dont know....I might of even had the virus and dont know about it......the point is we will have to try and get back to a normal life as possible sooner rather than later or the blow to the economy will be too high a price to pay(as more lives will be lost by a deep recession than the virus)
-

Some countries are doing better at stopping the spread than others though.
I don't think their strategy is just getting on with their lives.

I dont believe other countries data either griff....there is absolutely no way China have had only 3500 deaths due to this virus...its BS.....

So you think that the figures are worse?
Well they'd be a lot, lot worse if everyone just gets on with it. It can't happen.
The countries that have dealt with it the better have been more proactive against the virus and not just got on with it.
-
I had one customer phone me up, who obviously isn't short of a bob or two, offer to help me out if cash ever becomes an issue.

If getting on with their lives were the strategy there wouldn't be a strategy.

Maybe not.
It could be seen as herd immunity strategy. To me, that was never an option until we had a vaccine or know a lot more about the virus.
We might use some from of targeted herd immunity but I think we're a way off that, as things stand.
-
Fair point, I guess.

I had one customer phone me up, who obviously isn't short of a bob or two, offer to help me out if cash ever becomes an issue.
That was a nice thing to offer. What was your response?

I said it was a lovely thing to offer and how grateful I was for their thoughtfulness.
-
There’s still decent people around.
-
Looks like another 3 weeks of restrictions lads......get out and work if u can...both the old window cleaners I know have been working(71 and 76)...on ladders too!.....if they can work anyone can!👍😀

I'm going with the cambridge virologist take on it.......he also said 10,000 people die of the regular flu every winter.....my dads just recovered from the virus and hes got stage 4 lung cancer too!👍
Let's not over hype and exaggerate this pandemic mate....

If they are uk numbers then we only count the number tested and deaths that have been in hospital ( the worst cases)
Try Germany’s numbers for a better perspective . More testing = more people counted as recovered= better mortality rate

You’re off your nut. 88,000 tested positive.
A more accurate figure would be 1,000,000 untested but have had Covid19. 11,000 dead.

Thats ok mate, i can understand your confusion. It looks like a Foreign Countries stats doesn't it ? However i can assure you that HM Government means "Her Majestys Government", i can also assure you that "NHS" in the little blue box means National Health Service. I can also tell you, as i can see its a bit hard to make out that the number tested is 290k. I was impressed by the way you picked up on the fact we can only count the number of people tested. Astute, i like it. When and if i decided to go live in Germany then i'll go check their figures and see what my chances are there, but seeing as i live in the UK i'll just go with what the UK Gov figures say ? Thats our best bet don't you think ? Or for an even better perspective, rather than say.... Germany, should i go check Icelands figures ?
-
You also forget 290,000 tested means 290,000 exhibted symproms of Covid19, whilst 11,000 died.
That means you can exhibit respiratory symptoms of one sort or another, so you have something, which may just be influenza or asthma, but only 4% of those people die from those symptoms and their associated condition.
Reflect on the figures, all of the figures, not just the ones you want to. Go back to work. It’ll do your grey cells a favour.
-
A more accurate figure would be 1,000,000 untested but have had Covid19. 11,000 dead.
Hows that work ? You get a Clairvoyant to tell you which of the 11k had Cov 19 ? Or some other method ?
-
You also forget 290,000 tested means 290,000 exhibted symproms of Covid19, whilst 11,000 died.
You reckon ? Ring 111, tell them you have symptoms ............ you won't get tested. FACT. You'll get a test if you are hospitalised and showing severe symptons, and the testing has just ramped up the last week to start checking NHS staff. So, you're wrong.
-
So you can quote those figures but no-one else can. Right?
-

I reckon, because I gained that knowledge from the evidence you posted.
Look, they’ve been tested, regardless of the how and why. 95% of those tested havent got it. End of story.

Its 95% when you count those that have had it, stayed at home, got bed rest, recovered and got on with their lives. There’s probably a million of undocumented individuals that arent included anywhere in any of your figures. But you have to include those when trying to make a case, they’ve had it and havent died. Jeepers.
Haven’t you got anything better to do than waste your whole Easter weekend on here arguing the toss?

And as for havn't i got anything better to do ? Funny enough, i havn't, i've been in lockdown for about three weeks where am i gonna go? I can guess what you'd like me to do, but i ant gonna do that either ;D

One way of looking at it ........

However, even after reading that article I still doubt many would consider the current situation as over hyped.

It might only be 1% because people are staying at home.
And not all the 99% will recover. Have you seen what being on a ventilator does to people?

I’m looking forward to cracking on with window cleaning, I do actually miss it. Worked since I was 12 (2 paper rounds lol) , not used to doing nothing although iv had some good quality family time :)

CC, how many people would you estimate have had Covid19 in the UK. Total number, including those who haven't been to hospital and those who haven't been tested.
How many you reckon? Rough estimate. To within 100,000.
-
CC, has any alcohol passed your lips today?
How can you tell that ? Has my typing gone wonky or summat ? I'm the only one giving correct numbers and working out percentages correctly. And you and Daz are giving percentages out like a pair of drunk David Ike fans, and you wanna know if i've been drinking ? Are you for real ?

I didn't say I could tell anything. Your perception that that is what I said is telling to a degree.
Just answer the question mate.

1% mortality rate so 99% of us WILL RECOVER if we get covid19.........that puts this virus into perspective.....👍

Yup. They're not complex actually. Unless you're bladdered.

Ok, i'll indulge you. Obviously because i've had a bevvy, otherwise i wouldn't normally entertain such a request. I have not got a clue of an estimate, there is no way i could ever know this. But....anecdotally i would say the amount of people who have had, and have Cov virus is higher than the published figures we know. And i'll also add that the ONS figures for Cov related deaths are MUCH higher than then stats i reproduced above too, thats a FACT. You indulge me now before i get back to my ale, what is the point you are trying to make ?

Its oxygen in your case, and you've been breathing, so .................

half the people on here are self confessed manic depressives, the other 45% are ex alcoholics. Only 5% are of sound, undamaged mind which creates a serious uphill battle with common sense!😲🤐😆

Just trying to assess if you have full control of your faculties.

Sorry mate don’t want to argue with you . I just saw you saying 1 in 8 chance of dying from coronavirus and in my opinion that is wrong. I’m not an expert and nor are you . The experts haven’t a clue either so it’s pointless getting wound up on here

88k positive, 11k dead ? I make that a 1 in 8 chance, not 1 in 100.
If they are uk numbers then we only count the number tested and deaths that have been in hospital ( the worst cases)
Try Germany’s numbers for a better perspective . More testing = more people counted as recovered= better mortality rate

Nothing wrong in being scared Griff, its thinking that being scared somehow makes you better than those who aren't which is the self righteous bit, as for perspective, stop wibbling on about numbers and other things you haven't a clue about, fact is unless you have a medical condition that puts you at more risk then the chances of you dying from this virus are almost zero, the same goes for family and friends, harping on like a demented fool wont change that.

You need to get a grip Clean, posting pictures of sick children proves nothing more than sick children can get this virus, and we are in lockdown to protect the sick and vulnerable or more importantly from them overwhelming the NHS, again if you don't have a medical condition that puts you at risk then the chances of you dying from this virus are almost zero, that's a fact whether you like it or not.

Thats what i'm saying mate, i agree with you. Most of us are gonna be ok, its just gonna be sick kids, or people grannys. Don't worry about them, that picture of that kid doesn't bother me one iota, i don't even know the kid i'm not bothered, Fact is i don't think it will affect me. Its all over hyped and you made your point well, if we gotta lose some then we gotta lose some. That kid probably bothers you more than me. What bothers me is knowing you are right, practically all World leaders are thinking different than you. And to be frank with you, this is where i struggle a bit trying to understand it all. Who to believe..... a Window Cleaner from Norn Iron.... or the rest of the World Leaders ? I'm leaning towards what you say to be honest, its making more sense.

I reckon all those doctors and nurses who lost their lives must have had underlying health problems or were over seventy years old.
Wouldn’t think they’d need visors, masks, gloves etc when the risks are so low.

According to the same experts, no one actually knows what the incubation period is and will be different for each individual.

I know ten or so plus one young guy in hospital at the moment. I guess there are over 1,000,000 who either have or have had it.

An idiot would reckon that, a sensible type would listen to what the experts are saying which is being exposed to large doses for the virus can increase the risk of getting a more serious infection, even then its only slightly, so unless you plan to be in a ward full of seriously ill with the virus patents there's no need for the hysterics.

So, tell me what are the numbers for a mortality rate of 1%? You or Daz have a go.

Have you any numbers for 'large doses' and 'a more serious infection'?
What would be a 'large dose' of the virus?
Or is it just large doses of bullshIt that you specialise in?

If the figures were into the tens of millions i would be worried but when you think of the population of the entire world then it isnt alot is it and to be honest I dont care what any of you ex vets say but i think its man made chemical problem not some stupid guy that ate bats that caused this

It's because some people are worried that the numbers are not into the millions.
We'll worry and try to keep the numbers down and you carry on as normal like Marie Antoinette.

It was a landmark moment, on here. And a proper landmark like the statue of Eric Morecambe in...…...wherever it is.
I was feeling usurped in terms of stupidity but I also admired the seismic nature of it. It was like being between a rock and a hard place.

Every tragic death is one too many, it's some person's family member. The hardest thing is they don't even have the chance to say goodbye with dignity to their loved ones. If they are lucky they may be able to share a phone call with a member of their family or over a cam, but most of the time it's with nurses holding their hands as if they are there last family member and it's devastating on the nurses mentally who have to cope with it.
That poor little baby. My brother and sister were twins and had to go in incubators right from the start. My sister died but was revived and my brother had the slimmest chance but they both pulled through thanks to every chance given to them by the hospital staff. I would never wish this horrible virus on anyone.
Every child brought into this world deserves every possible chance of hope and help living regardless of their condition. To not try to save them is immoral.
-
Sorry to say this but nurses cant hold the hands of the patients, i have been told by a few nurses i clean for

I'm just going off what a cambridge virologist said yesterday on the afternoon update......not one case has ever been proved....I'm not just making stuff up...

Im unsure how that could be proven either way Daz.
If someone has no symptoms why would they be tested to conclude whether they have it or not?

If the figures were into the tens of millions i would be worried but when you think of the population of the entire world then it isnt alot is it and to be honest I dont care what any of you ex vets say but i think its man made chemical problem not some stupid guy that ate bats that caused this
I have to agree I also think it was manmade in a laboratory and not from Monkeys, oh and BTW I'm a ex vet

1% mortality rate so 99% of us WILL RECOVER if we get covid19.........that puts this virus into perspective.....👍
The self righteous aren't interested in perspective Dazmond.
Isn't that self righteous?
What sort of perspective does a 1% mortality rate give us? What would be the number of deaths?
I might need a drink after this.
You're talking out of your hoop, Dryo.
I know my numbers. The people on here talking about numbers have no idea about numbers.
So, tell me what are the numbers for a mortality rate of 1%? You or Daz have a go.
You know nothing Griff, you're just an idiot harping on like a broken record about things you haven't a clue about, like you I don't know enough or have an interest in numbers so will go with the advice given which is if I get this virus I will need to be very unlucky to get anything more than a few days of discomfort.
-
Im unsure how that could be proven either way Daz.
If someone has no symptoms why would they be tested to conclude whether they have it or not?
Like I said matt..I'm just going off what the virologist said yesterday......I suppose if your not coughing and sneezing your not spreading the virus?.....
I imagine there's loads of ways to spread it without coughing or sneezing. On your hands then on to supermarket trolleys?
-
Trolleys or touching things gloves are a must when you leave the house, they are also saying that the aerosol effect of sneezing with it being left in the air sometimes for well over a minute is another good one to get it from.
They reported yesterday that different ethnic groups are of a higher %.
-
I reckon all those doctors and nurses who lost their lives must have had underlying health problems or were over seventy years old.
Wouldn’t think they’d need visors, masks, gloves etc when the risks are so low.
Have you any numbers for 'large doses' and 'a more serious infection'?
What would be a 'large dose' of the virus?
Or is it just large doses of bullshIt that you specialise in?
There's a doctor on the Vine show most mornings who tries to calm the hysterical and stupid of which you are both, when asked the question about young healthy NHS workers dying she explained that the sicker you tend to be the more of the virus is in your system, basically its because your immune system isn't killing it, therefore to be exposed to such a person means you can be exposed to larger doses of the virus, this is one theory on why some healthy NHS workers are dying from the virus, as I keep saying we need to listen to the experts and not Guys like Griff who seems to be taking great pleasure in spreading their idiotic bile.

That question was also answered yesterday, its more because those ethnic groups tend to be poorer, live together in bigger groups and work in jobs where you're more likely to get infected, like most theories it hasn't been totally ruled out but they reckon its very unlikely that their ethnicity on its own is making any difference.

I'm hysterical but you think I'm spreading idiotic bile?
We've established that you have almost zero chance of dying from the virus, so why don't you leave it to others to discuss the pandemic? You are also unique in that you can work and not touch anything that someone has touched before you or will touch after you.
You're in an enviable position but not everyone else is.
You are safe but others have to work at it.

10000 people die of Flu each year they were saying blimey never knew that it was that many.

It’s sad that the forum now seems to allow personal insults and name calling in every virus related thread.
I’ve had a weekend away from the forum and internet as a whole, it helps to step away for awhile and I think some on here should probably do the same.

Unfortunately deeege there isn't a nice way to tell somebody they're being stupid, childish or hysterical, this is an emotive topic and if that's the height of the rudeness then I don't think you have anything to complain about.

I'm only repeating information about yourself that you have posted on the forum.
I'm stupid, hysterical and childish because of what you post? Ok.
Look, we know the virus won't affect you- you've told us- but It's not my fault that you feel uncomfortable about others talking about the virus.
And you go on about being self righteous, when you're sat there in your Irony tower with almost zero chance of dying.

Don't get hung up on numbers NWH, just like with corona many of those flu victims would have died anyway.

Have you got a timescale for the deaths and having the flu?

More childish babble, you're not repeating what I have said you are repeating what the experts I listen to have said, now if its not true that there is little to no chance of a healthy person dying from this virus then show me where an expert/qualified person has said this.

Hopefully not from this virus George, but guys like Griff would have you believe you are, they seem to get pleasure in fearmongering.

The point is we all die, just because some die from an otherwise avoidable cause doesn’t mean we should give up on them and just let it happen, shrug our shoulders and say ‘well, they were going to kick the bucket anyway’
Having other possibly terminal health conditions isn’t a reason to treat those who sick like you are an uncivilised individual.
Its why we are social distancing George, nobody on here is saying that we shouldn't practice social distancing to protect those who are at risk, end of life or other.

It's not up to me to disprove your figures; it's up to you to prove them. I'm not giving out 1% mortality rates or 'almost zero' chance of dying figures.
Have you any expert evidence about you being able to work without touching anything that someone has touched before or will touch after?

Err, are we not all going to die or do you plan to be immortal?
The fact that lots of the deceased had other health issues is clouding the issue. It’s the Covid19 that is the last straw. Lots of these people would have lived for years without Covid19.
Have you got a timescale for the deaths and having the flu?

Sorry, Jay but when I read some of the stuff that I read last night and today I will put up an argument on a subject as serious as this.
If I get called a few names, it doesn't matter to me if it means even a few people see some sense.
It's my calling ;D.

I said many not all, 1400 or so people die in the UK every day, fact is many of these who would have died from other conditions will now be classed as Covid19 victims, same with flu.

You want me to back up the scientists and experts? I am honoured. It's usually the other way round.
Right, I'll give you one (not like that, cheeky)- coronavirus is not always passed by contact. You said it was and I said it wasn't.
Another? I said that the Chancellor would come good for the self employed. Not only that, I posted on here when he'd do it.
And you're still whining saying that we won't get anything.
Go on, prove my twaddle wrong.......

Have lost a small amount of commercial but other than that very little has changed work wise, like iv said before there's a lot of manufacturing jobs in my work area and most of these are still open for business so maybe that has played a part, my wife's aunt died from the virus but even before the virus she was so ill that she wasn't expected to last to July, still sad though.
No neighbour deaths that I know of, as for my mental health, I would be lying if I said that all this wasn't having a negative effect on it but being able to work as certainly helped so its something to be grateful for.
-
Its going to get a fair bit worse before it gets better.
They're forecasting a 35% drop in economic output come the the end of the second quarter of the year.

More twaddle, show me where I said it could only be passed by contact, and I stress the word only, plus will ask again, the scientists have said that when it comes to the risk of death from this virus in a healthy person its low, show me the ones that have said this is false.

It's why he won't quote your post which says what HE says you've said.
He's disingenuous that way and he just makes stuff up. ;D

Seeing how you lads seem to get on so well. Have you thought about teaming up in a partnership or maybe a co-op?
You obviously get on like a house on fire, I'm sure it would be a roaring success! ::)roll

Sorry, Jay but when I read some of the stuff that I read last night and today I will put up an argument on a subject as serious as this.
If I get called a few names, it doesn't matter to me if it means even a few people see some sense.
It's my calling ;D.
Argument ? you mean self righteous twaddle, show me one of your posts that backs up a single thing that doctors and other professionals/scientists are saying ? I wont hold my breath.
More twaddle, show me where I said it could only be passed by contact, and I stress the word only, plus will ask again, the scientists have said that when it comes to the risk of death from this virus in a healthy person its low, show me the ones that have said this is false.
You said 'the virus spreads from person to person by contact'. And you were banging on about social distancing, at the time.
You didn't say only but you were withholding vital information. Withholding information is another form of lying.
If you ever had the information, that is.
-

Quote his post, Griff. You've got form for mangling what people say.
;D

I'll have a look. I do remember the thread title.
Yeah, I am good at ripping peoples' posts apart. You know that from experience, don't you? (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1586896281_grin[1].gif)
It's only the tip of the lettuce with Dryo, too. I remember lots of his daft posts.

You can hardly remember what day it is, I said the virus can be spread from person to person by contact but I didn't say it was the only way to spread it, Tosh is spot on, you made a fool out of yourself by saying I was wrong in saying that this virus holds little or no threat to healthy people and are now looking for something to distract from that nonsense, a few hours ago you didn't even know that you can get a higher dose of the virus from a person sick with it even though the government has been telling us for weeks to self isolate from people in our own homes if they're showing symptoms.

I reckon all those doctors and nurses who lost their lives must have had underlying health problems or were over seventy years old.
Wouldn’t think they’d need visors, masks, gloves etc when the risks are so low.
Have you any numbers for 'large doses' and 'a more serious infection'?
What would be a 'large dose' of the virus?
Or is it just large doses of bullpoop that you specialise in?

Lying again, Griff, it's not a good look.
What you do is mangle what's said, either through willfully misunderstanding what's typed, or because you're not the smartest.
Have you quoted Dry's post yet? Or are you continuing to wiggle?

Wilfully and wriggle.

Serious Question thread.

You still haven't answered my question Griff, why do you think the pointy heads are wrong when they say this virus holds little or no threat to the healthy ?

Which are you going with?
If you're saying that it holds no threat to the healthy then I think the pointy heads are wrong. I'm sure some pointy heads would back me up on this.
Little threat, I'm not sure about. It depends on how you little you mean. Is there a figure for a little threat? Or do you mean it holds a threat to a little section of the healthy population?
You're being far too vague, Dryo.

If you're healthy and under 60 then the chance of you dying from Covid 19 is around 0.2% lower again if younger, but even those who have health conditions aren't as doomed as some would make out

That's like one of Tosh's doctored links.
And there is no one on 0%.

The pointy heads don't say this, Griff. You're creating an argument that no-one has made.
The statistics show there's very little chance of dying if you you're young and have no known underlying health problems.
And those young who do die will have an underlying health problem, whether it was known about or not.
But statistically speaking, if you're young, there's very little chance of dying from it.

I hope you're not trying to drum up fear and hysteria; there's enough disinformation knocking about without you telling lies.

No, of course, not. Nice to see you miss the main point though. Not that that's like you. ;D
Here, take a look at the graph again and if you've any questions, just give me a shout:

You'll notice that very few young die.
And there's increasing evidence, from Italy and China this time, that the majority of people who get the Chinese Plague, don't even realise they've got it; it's such a mild disease for most.
-
I know all that!
Don't blame me that you and Dryo can't express what you really mean. I know the groups that it kills the most but the lockdown is about stopping the spread of the virus.
We all have a part to play in that even if we're not going to die from it (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1586907346_rolleyes[1].gif).

I'm just watching BBC News and it's saying that 1 in 5, with no underlying health problems, are much more seriously ill. It's down to our DNA. Some young, healthy people are more at risk from coronavirus (and other things) and there's no way of knowing if they are or not, yet.
I remember Dry Clean being ill in bed for a week with a fever and a cough when he went to Alicante. But he reckons most only have mild symptoms.

Come on Griff, give your head a wobble, if 1 in 5 of us were to get seriously ill with this virus the NHS would crumble, and I wouldn't say having to spend a week in bed with a cough and fever is something to be overly worried about, I cant be even be sure that it wasn't nothing more than a bad cold, use your loaf, they're trying bring a test onto the market that can tell if you have had the virus or not, the reason for this is without it the majority of us will never know if we have had the virus or not, its not mild symptoms but no symptoms that the pointy heads think the majority of us will get.

Little or no threat was nothing more than a figure of speech, I wasn't inferring that it held no or zero threat to some people and you know that (roll eyes) as Tosh said stop trying to create an argument that nobody is making, you're getting more and more like this guy everyday.

judging by tonight's news it looks like it's gonna be another 3 weeks for me

Because of my other half yes, she has even had messages from the government telling her not to go anywhere until it's all over

I've noticed quite an increase in people out and about on the roads this week than there was in the previous weeks since lock down.
And today i would say i've seen about 50-60% of traffic on the road that there normally is.
Some people must still think that they are on Holiday. (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1587123797_rolleyes.gif)
-
We just said the same thing lots more traffic on the road over the last couple of days,I can’t understand why people are still shopping at the same time they usually would as week.
Went past Tesco’s they were queuing about a 1/4 mile round the block.
-
I was thinking this today, seems to be lots of cars about, an abundance of walkers, joggers and cyclists too and i went to town today to pay about 2 months of cheques in and that was surprisingly busy.
People are getting fed up and since its hardly being policed people can do pretty much as they please.

I pulled up to set of lights that two weeks ago to the day at the same time 8:30am was deserted, but today there was a queue at the lights. As you say, it’s not being policed so people are out.
