If i decide to go back to work this week i will be sending a different text out. I want it to include that on current government advice its 'ok' for us to work, we will be practicing safe work practices, no cash accepted, if you feel uncomfortable having us let us know before we arrive.
If anyone has sent out similar texts and wording would be appreciated. Let's help each other!

This has worked really well
Hi
I hope you and yours are well.
I'm trying to keep working as best i can until it becomes unsafe, so I'll be there tomorrow to clean you're windows but will of course not initiate any contact at all by knocking at the door or approaching anyone on you're property.
As for payment if you normally pay online there is no need to change that, but if pay by cash or cheque please leave in a suitable place and i can do the job and leave.
I've always appreciated you're custom.
If you have any concerns please contact me (0781******* or jjwcleaning@******
Thanks again and all the best in keeping well
Regards
Jon

.

I know its hard when you could be in shorts etc. Im taking a couple of weeks to see what happens .
-
By which time we could be in full lockdown & you’ll wish you’d been out earning when you could’ve to help ease the financial pain.

Let's hope that that's the only pain that we endure.

I don’t think it’ll be until tomorrow we will know anything, that’s when he is announcing the plans for the self employed although he may say today that we are able to carry on as long as the 2 meter rule applies.
I’ve seen loads of builders out working today on private houses as well as gardeners etc.
-
Fifty per cent of my customers planned for tomorrow have cried off because they're either self isolating or too vulnerable to have anyone around their house. The other fifty per cent have replied saying its fine for us to clean.

smart website john. Im jealous to F The Statement is correct. We work alone, we need no contact. use gloves to handle cash. So why are people slaging us off when they see us out and about. are they jealous that we are still working, well around 40% I think. my guess. im getting more drawn to go out working.

The Self employed can continue to work if the work absolutely CANNOT be done from home and social distancing etc. is applied.
That is the Government advice in place at the moment.
Anyone who slags you off for working, is an idiot.

Although this is correct I think a Lockdown would make more sense at this time

Thank you 🙏 it seems to work well.
I still think a Lockdown makes most sense at this time

Although we have been given the all clear to work up here in Scotland, there are a few factors I feel a responsible business has to take into account. One the damage it could do to your reputation as a lot of people are angry that they cannot get out to work themselves, two and I think this is important we do not want to put anymore financial burden on already hard pressed folks, Windows will hardly be there top priority in life at this time. Thirdly if we are given help by the Gov which we are expecting to here by tomorrow it will help in all the previous factors I’ve mentioned. It would be great to have a wee nest egg and good on the folks who have managed to do that but all our circumstances are different ie mortgages, families, unforeseen bills etc so hopefully we get a bit of help to smooth us over.
-
You won’t get any help imo because you could of worked but we’ll have to wait & see.
I’m not gonna not work just because a minority are jealous that I can. I’ll take that hit on my reputation if need be; I’ve done nothing wrong.
I’m much more flexible with the ‘can u leave us this time?’. Normally they’d be binned without a good reason. Obviously this is an exceptional reason.
-
I myself feel it is jealousy from other people you’ve got more to be worried about lol, there’s a lot of people out there that feel it’s right we should be able to work but a lot of people still think we should be locked up and only allowed out for the minimum time.
-
I'm sure you can word your own text messages surely ???
Just tell them you will be working tomorrow however given the current situation if they would like to skip this clean then you will be happy to do so
Then just use the brain to re word it 8)
-
Obviously lives are more important but if he can get away with a lot of self employed people working he will do,I popped out this morning loads of workers out and about repairing brick walls employed gardeners working, the roads were quieter but not a lot.
-
Just go in and get on with it. We can work and social distance as we work outside.
All customers were happy to see me today, i kept distance as did customers, all had a chat and moan about how things are, all were really happy to see me and all paid too 22 customers cleaned and 22 customers payed plus I also gained 3 new customers from neighbours seeing me work where they are home.
Until I'm told otherwise i will carry on going in to work as i am no threat to anyone as long as i keep my distance.
If it was a problem then my customers would tell me and say to leave it. Not 1 of them said to leave it.

Not necessarily.
It depends on ones reasons for working and ones actions whilst working.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.
You seem to know it's affect on the window cleaning industry.

This is what I’ve sent today:
—
Hi —Fred—- (or whoever)
I hope you are safe & well.
Just to let you know, we are following the government’s instructions and carrying on with window cleaning as usual, as it’s outside and we don’t need to come into contact with anyone!
We’re due to call tomorrow, so if you’re home we’ll give you a wave, but we think it’s best not to be handling cash etc at the moment, so we’ll just post a card as usual (while wearing gloves)!
Thanks and we’ll see you tomorrow!
—-
I’ve sent that by both text and email.
All of those who it was sent to have responded. Here are a few of the responses :
-Great, no problem!
-Thanks for letting me know. We are all good thank you. All at home and driving each other mad but that’s the case for everybody! We will give you a wave tomorrow.
Thanks
-Thanks that's fine. We'll be in!
I was just thinking of you. Hope you're both keeping ok. We'll leave the gates open so you can just walk through as needed. Stay safe and well.
-Hiya, Thank you for your email.
Yes that is fine. Not a problem. Both myself and my husband are home. I will just pay your money directly into your account when you have been tomorrow.
No need to post a card through. You needn’t waste one when we’re going to be in.

Not a single “don’t come”.
There are a lot of drama queens on here, and I would bet that when they come out with a package for the self-employed, it will only be for those who cannot work. Window cleaners will not be in that group, so my advice will be to get your customers ready.
Tell them you’re glad to report that, in accordance with the government’s instructions, their service won’t be interrupted! Spin it positively!
If my own customers are anything to go by, you’ll have nothing to worry about.
PLUS the 80% thing for employees is capped at £2500 a month. Dunno about anyone else, but for me that would represent a huge pay cut. I’m super glad I can continue to work rather than take a piddling handout.

Maybe I've been cleaning windows for too long.
Maybe the allure of it has diminished.
