Over the last few years I have browsed this forum and I have only started looking lately ,as myself was looking for clues to what other window cleaners are doing regards working in the current climate and really amazed by the hostility from people who are not working ,which is totally their choice ,towards those who need to support themselves and their family in absence of government help or feel that in this occupation you can safely carry on working ,taking steps not to have contact with customers ,vunerable or not . I myself worked today after a lot of thought and was really pleased with the reaction by the customers, leaving payment in envelopes and many thanking me for coming and to continue. I was always a safe distance away and seeing people saying you should be ashamed to work is quite laughable .
If you don't want to work that's your choice ,just move on ,but the government today very clearly wish us to carry on.

Fear.

The same ones who thought just over week ago the virus was over hyped 😁
Good post though. It's a stressfull time for us all. Everyone's decision is their own and needs it's respect
-
I have mulled it over today and I'm going to work tomorrow . Mainly to get away from the kids
???
-
I’ll wait till the announcement tomorrow i think he will list some that can work although even then it will be working alone, they’ve sat down and worked out how much tree surgeons builders will cost the economy if they make that decision after what they’ve been saying it’ll be a surprise.
-
All this will be a waste of time very soon anyway. I recon we are days away from a full lock down.

Yeah, I reckon Friday there will be an announcement.
The people getting nasty because they didn't work are doing so because they are covering the fact they misunderstood what the MP said. It's easier then admitting they got it wrong. I'm all for stopping if you can, but they were stopping because they thought they were told to. If these guys are so concerned about the public and people dying, why didn't they stop work last week?
-
Who's wrong?
I didn't work because of the coronavirus. The coronavirus is still killing people and is probably going to get worse before it gets any better. Because of that the government will do something very soon.

f*** off.

I havn't been nasty to anyone. However my last day was Tuesday last week. I was met at the door with someone who had Coronovirus, i posted about it at the time. I got no warning about this. I went to work the next day, i knew i was meeting no one, i got that sort of wrong as although i actually "met" no one they where all in and didn't come near the door. I couldn't face going out knowing i'd took cash of someone with Corona. I havn't worked since. Its not like i'm going to be cleaning my Hotels now is it ? Its not like i'm going to be cleaning the retirement appartments i usually clean (i have to go through for a lot of them). So yes i am concerned, and yes i did stop last week before any announcements. I've never needed anyone to tell me not to light a match near petrol.
-
I guess because the ones who didn’t work thought it was morally wrong to do so and thought it was the right thing to do under the circumstances.
... and besides the sun was out!.
I feel I should stay at home too but rather than get angry over it, I prefer to observe others cracking after only one day.

The way I see it, the people who decide not to work are perfectly entitled to do so and their decision not to go to work should be respected. The people who decide to work are also perfectly entitled to do so, as they have been told by those in power that it is safe to do so if they take the necessary precautions and follow guidelines, so their decision to go to work should also be respected.
Love and peace everybody😘

For many self employed people its not a choice its more a case of do you want to feed your children i have some savings but not enough to pay all my bills for 2 or 3 months or longer

Most people spend more on cars, motorbikes, hobbies as opposed to food for their children. FACT.

The meltdown that everyone on here is having today, knowing that sh¡t is getting serious, I had towards the back end of last week.
Like the UK being 2 weeks behind Italy, you lot on here are 1 week behind me. ;D

Lives come first....we all have to make sacrifices, no matter how painful. Just be thankful you are not a casualty of this corona virus or a nurse or doctor, they have families who they are worried about.
My ex is a nurse and she tells me in confidence she is scarred and nothing scares her! She has to isolate from her family and sleep near work and her life is work and sleep at the moment and nothing else whilst fearing for her vulnerable mother who is very old, with illness and very fragile. Her daughter has asthma, she is worried sick about her as she works in a care home.
I'm an ex veteran myself and it is a gut wrenching feeling when you are told you have to play your part in war and conflicts, you have to suck it up and just get on with it for the sake of others.
Have a heart and stay home for the sake of your families, your loved ones, your friends and for yourself.

Good post. As even Piers bloody Morgan said yesterday, no ones being asked to dodge bullets and bombs, just stay home and watch telly!!

What I find surprising is the ones who are boasting about what they earn per hour are the ones that are panicking beacause they cannot afford to take time off , something doesn’t add up to me if you cannot afford to take three months off without pay you don’t run a very successful buisness , and arnt being truthful about your earnings

Yet for some who can't afford to take time off, perhaps they will be having to dodge bullets when they have to resort to crime to pay their way.

What a load of rubbish there is no need for ones to be in that situation if they are then they don’t have a good buisness model and would be better off employed by someone else

I thought that. Ultimately as long as you’ve paid your taxes ...self employed or not...you won’t starve. So those who need to “dodge bullets”, well let’s hope they don’t dodge them for long.

Some on here are still building rounds or have small rounds. If they can't work and as of yet cant claim, what do you suppose they do for money?
The job market is dead unless you want to work in a supermarket.
It's easy for people like piers Morgan to sit at home in his mansion and tell people to stay at home isnt it.

Many of us are lucky enough to have been trading for years, with large established rounds and enough disposable to see us through a few months.
Others live week to week or month to month, I bet they are sh!ting their pants right now.

whos panicking?it seems to me its other window cleaners that have been having a meltdown on here today....the government said i could carry on working .....so i will for as long as im allowed to continue.......it was a nice, sunny day and i really enjoyed being out on the glass today.....i dont want to be sat at home if i can work outside safely.....my missus business will take a big hit as she has had to close her shop for the forseeable future so i want to be able to help her financially over the coming months without spending all my hard earned savings thats took me 10 years to build up.....

I reckon I could go six months, with a mortgage holiday of three months, comfortably but would have to use credit cards.
But this problem is long term. There is no exit strategy - not just from the UK gov - but from any nation.
20,000 dead will be a good result for the UK. We'll probably have a far higher number. Currently we've got around 500 dead; things are going to get baaaaaaaaad.
Get it in while you can.

They may not starve but they may not be able to pay their bills. The thought of going into debt can make people do stupid things.

For ones starting out I accept it will be harder but they can claim benefits for housing and a host of other things suggesting they turn to crime is irresponsible ,and if they did an£ get caught that’s the end of there self employment once the community finds out , I started out over 20 years ago doing one day a week trad and supported a young family and mortgage by doing a variety of other work until I got established, now I employ 5 and have three vans that’s not boasting but showing what hard work and determination can achieve , I could easily take 6 months off paying all staff full wages fir that time period , that hasn’t happened by accident it’s through planning saving and hard work , it’s not rocket science anyone can do it if they put there mind ti it , if they cannot then they arnt suited to running there own buisness, one of the guys who works for me gave up his round as he couldn’t make a living from it , since working with us he sees how he could have succeeded but he would rather work for me as no hassle. To many people start up there own buisness and fail due to having no idear what they are doing ,or are lazy and not disciplined that’s not insulting anyone but is a fact , I see probably a couple of dozen new starters every year go out and buy all the flash kit and 6 months later cannot make the payments and go bust .

Work more than one job , that’s what I did , or apply for benefits

They are paid monthly and i will be paying them until things are sorted out , then if they have been overpaid as they hopefully will get paid 80% by the government they will refund it , they are good lads and I trust them and they trust me

I had a number quoted to me today, potentially 250,000 in 1 year, even with current restrictions.
Most of those not in the current outbreak but in the 'expected' second wave later this year, when the weather turns cold again.
-
I accept it’s unlikely we would get it or pass it on but it’s not worth the risk
Everything in life has a risk once you step outside your front door.
I communicated with four customers today, without a physical barrier between us. No cash passed hands. We stayed over 2 meters apart.
Other customers just 'waved at me from the other side of the window' as requested in my letter that explained our new working practices.
It's all in line with government guidelines; I'll follow them rather than hysterics from the internet.

It's going to be a cycle of number of cases grow, lock down, number of cases grow, lock down; repeat, repeat, repeat.
Work while government says you can; they're the ones led by science, not hysterics.

The NHS will be completely overwhelmed by the end of the year. Second wave of Corona, flu as well as a much higher then average birth rate caused by current conditions and people spending alot of time together. As more and more NHS staff are infected and die, we lose skilled doctors and nurses who will be impossible to train and replace in time leading to massive staff shortages on top of huge numbers of patients. Cancer death rates will soar and people will by dying of things that are normally require routine operations and treatments. Expect xmas to be pretty much cancelled this year...

More divorces surely? ;D

I sound like doom and gloom lol but what I have just said is what the government and NHS are expecting this year. The only thing that can prevent that outcome is if somehow a vaccine is in place by september, which is deemed highly unlikely.
Just to add, 250,000 is the 'likely' number within 1 year but could potentially rise to 500,000.

Exactly what I’m saying! If everybody just stayed home for a few weeks and did feck all, then the upcoming few months lockdown could be prevented.
Selfishness and near sighted stupidity.

The next few months are essentially practice measure for what comes next.
The biggest fear is when exactly the second wave strikes. If its during November/December which is prime xmas shopping time then the virus will spread rapidly. Immediate lockdown and closures of usually packed shopping centres. Even then it will be too late and people will completely ignore the lockdown to spend xmas with family.
