So the country needs volunteers to help NHS staff anyone here going to sign up? I've looked into it a bit but as my wife is a key worker and has to go to her work I'm not sure i can as i have the kids to look after, going to ask their school tomorrow to see if they would take them.
How about you! or is window cleaning more important ;D
-
They’ll need more than that purely with the amount of selfish, brain dead morons still working from this forum alone.

School will take your kids if one parent is a key worker.
You've got to consider school holidays, as well. I have thought about doing something temporarily but the holidays would still be a problem.
-
No it's too dangerous on the front line.
Big respect to those that do it, but they chose that profession I chose to be a shiner.

Although that was what was originally said, you'll find that they probably wont accept it if one of you is not unless the child has registered specialist needs (my brother tried today). Its not front line work its things like go shopping for the nurses/Doctors etc so they dont have too and other small things like that.

It must depend on the school and the demand. My lad's school's policy is one key worker.
But if you volunteer, you'll class as a key worker.

Let's make it less dangerous for them then.
Stay in and save the NHS.

No need for name calling and certainly to post it twice ;D ;D
Please explain how our work is risking peoples lifes if precautions are taken and the government allows it, along with take away places / shops/super markets which are restricting access to 30 people at a time (around here any way) and other such like businesses??

Apparently by eventually getting back toworking (for me) will not only help my family financially but also help with the economy for when we survive this madness / turbulent time ;D ;D
However, they hold our upmost respect and praise. I know before all of this, at one stage a while ago I was tired of hearing about doctors striking here, there and everywhere! Then I had an opp which required 3 weeks in sheffield hospital and saw for myself back then, how rushed off their feet they are, esp the nurses! Since then I have nothing but respect for them.
If I didnt have my family situation of health (my wifes) with looking after the kids etc then I would do, especially if they provide masks etc.

You've been off for a fortnight mate, you can only work half days too. What is it you're looking to get back to ?
-
Ive got a load of jobs booked in which ive mentioned some on here plus my normal windows. I need to start getting some money in mate, is that OK with you 🤦♂️🤦♂️

as my wife is a key worker
I'd love to take time off and rely on a woman keeping me in housing and food, but unfortunately I have to work.

Another kept man whose missis is a key worker.
There's a pattern happening here. ;D

You mentioned all your family has had the virus, you need to check with the Health Authorities. If you havn't and someone finds out then you'll be in trouble.

One may have done but one may not have done

You’ll find out in about 3 days when you can’t even leave the house. Probably because of non key workers like you desperately chasing a few pennies.
For the sake of a few weeks maximum being told, no asked nicely to stay in, you will probably be forced to stay in for far, far longer.

Bollox. It was the crowds out in the parks and beaches that did all that; nothing to do with window cleaners.
As the Jock first minister said, window cleaners and gardeners work alone and can adhere to all the rules.

The problem with that thinking is thinking that it wasnt inevitably going to be the case anyway!!
So please tell me as im still confused. When you do your shopping is it online and does the delivery person drop them at the door and move away etc. You see, i know that people will have come into contact and seen more people than i would i perhaps two days of work. Hence my confusion at your outright anger and name calling.

It could be a lot of people in trouble then (my missis believes she's had it too, but she's Welsh and daft):
https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/24/coronavirus-may-already-infected-half-uk-population-12451012/
I don't believe it, but my missis had the dry cough and a bad cold. It lasted about a week too, though lingered for longer.
This was in early/mid February; had she got those symptoms now, she'd be in isolation.

So you thought you’d help by going out today as usual and exacerbating the governments nerves.
Well done.
Enjoy your 3 month incarceration ;D

Yep she would but with that you would know its just a cold and the cough is a result of that.
However saying that, their is fundamentally some similar symptoms and this is why we are told to look out for such n such but it also effects each person differently as well. Some have been fine one moment and the next dropping like flies with no warning.

Yes. It's going to go on for another 18 months, at least; get it in while you can.
Not all of us can rely on the income of our wives and be a kept man.

Kebabs are marvellous things.

Back to the original post. The word is volunteer and it's the RVS (the chaps and chapesses that bring you a cuppa while you wait for the doc to tell you the latest on granny) and you can drive, do errands etc.
You can volunteer to free up the more skilled workers and you can volunteer the hours to suit you.
So even if you are still working you can volunteer.

No need; it's domestics tomorrow.

It will be probably be different from council to council, but Fife Council are keeping the ‘activity centres’ as they are being called, open during the Easter holidays.

Sexist and a flouter. You've got thirty pieces of silver to keep you going until you get locked down. Was it worth it?
I'm working from home, flouts. There's more than one way to skin an NHS.
Well done.
-
You've got thirty pieces of silver to keep you going until you get locked down.
Go away with your Bible nonsense; save that for your church on Sunday while your priest struggles to explain why pandemics happen.
Demons probably. ;D

Is flouting one of the seven deadly sins?
Is that what your priest teaches?

No, but is greed is. Our priest doesn't teach me owt. I'm content with what I know.
My Dad taught me never to flout or to be a scab. He isn't greedy and respects the NHS, bless him.

Why do you assume that if a wife is a key worker then the husband is a ‘kept man’?
Being a key worker hardly guarantees bringing home a top wage. My wife’s a key worker and earns around 1/3 of what I do. It’s also not clear at this point if she will be getting paid anything at the moment. (Private school and have threatened disciplinary for anyone missing work that isn’t isolating)
Does that make me a kept man?
-

Good post. It’s the assumptions of the truly stupid to think a key NHS worker earns a fortune. My other half has 2 degrees (proper ones, ologys, not like weakly) and is in the front line. I am a thicko and earn probably 3 times her wage.
-
It’s interesting to see most of you that are strongly suggesting people stay home have another income coming into the house that they can live off.
Would your views be the same if in 4 weeks time you couldn’t pay the bills?
Serious question btw. Would you choose bankruptcy over going to work as safe as possible?
-
gomo you need to put your brain in to gear before you make dumb arse comments like that you idiot
-
well jonny dont you have a rainy day fund like most sensible do in this game i used to do before i was married and i still do put money a way
-
I wouldn’t do it , or be allowed to as I am high risk .
Apart from that , why would I want to work for nothing in light of the fact that I am being ignored by the very people that are asking me to volunteer
Why not pay the SE to do it ???
-
Harleyman, you should use some of this time off to work on your anger issues.
-

Not always as simple as that. For instance in November n December I had a lot of van troubles. Jan and feb saw alot of bad weather and strong winds which people couldnt work in nor could I and family health saw me work only 3 out of 7 rounds last month. This month is where I initially was getting every back on track and replenish the funds...........yep thats going well.......Not!
So like me, im sure others might have legit reasons why there funds may not be able to cope much further

You didn’t answer the question, it’s a simple one.
Not everyone like you has someone else bringing money in.
So in the hypothetical situation, which is it?
Bankruptcy or working as safely as possible?
-
I would like to volunteer buy can't due to my wife being in the vulnerable section with her COPD
-
I’ve signed up.
Come on chaps. Do the right thing.

In a way mate I do need the help , at the moment I have a sack of spuds , some tins and some bog roll , fully overdrawn , CC at the max , all the usual and more bills , mortgage , 3 kids , one with a heart condition , my Mrs has been stood down due to auto immunity condition and I have the same heart condition as my daughter.
Both grandparents have COPD and Angina with little savings
Shall I continue ?
I would help the NHS , not frontline though , but I still want paying if I’m not getting the same the employed are ..........that was my point !
-
Wasn't having a pop P & F although I can see it may of looked that way. I genuinely wish you the very best it must be very hard.
I'm signing up today just waiting for a response from my kids school.
There saying parliament us shutting down tonight so hopefully some kind of package is going to be announced.

No problem whatsoever chief ;D
Thing is we are all edgy with the uncertainty, things are going to be taken the wrong way at present, as you say, tonight might clarify it a bit more , if I’m shut down and get compensated, then I will be stripping out the van and doing the right thing , I have never been one to take and not give

Hmmm...
In all fairness to Gomo, I think that he failed to mention that he has the same heart condition that I do !
We cannot do frontline stuff , but I for one would be willing to do deliveries in van to the vulnerable, food or medicine or anything needed by the authorities to get this gone

That is an option when you volunteer.
Tick the box saying ‘help with transport’.
You can select what you do.
