Title: Van Insurance for a young driver?
Post by: supernova77 on March 01, 2020, 09:47:14 am
Hi All,

We have a guy working for us and I'd like to send him out in his own van.

The problem is he's only 19 (20 in May)... He passed his driving test in September 2017, so has had his licence for 2.5 years.

Does anyone know of any good insurance companies that will insure him but won't cost the earth... I appreciate it will be a bit more expensive because of his age but some of the quotes I've had so far are ridiculous.

Thanks,
Andy  :)

Hi Andy
One of our drivers was 19 years old when he first started with us.
A plan insurance were very helpful and reasonable to be fair.
We do already have a policy with them so not sure how much that influences prices.

Not sure if they still do it or not, but when I used to employ and had 2 vans on the road I had an ‘ open driving policy ‘ from Aviva, it meant anyone with a full licence could drive and there was no restrictions on age.

Hi Andy,

I don't have any info to share but I'm thinking about going into the same situation.

Update us how you get on mate, I'd be very interested to know.

Cheers,

Jay

I'm going with aviva and he will be the main "NAMED" driver.

He wont build NCB but it was £1400 Fully Comp for a connect.

Hes 21 and not passed his test yet, when he does it goes up to £1500

Had quotes from £4000 to £26,000. The 26k quote was genuine and had a sales call the following day lol. I said he could employ a chauffeur to drive him around and it would be cheaper!!!

I just do any driver, the only proviso is all convictions must be declared and must have had a licence for over 24 months.  Costs just over  £1K per year
