Yes really.

Daz - I know you've been in business a few years bud, the customer expects price increases.
Like us, we don't collect money just leave a bill on the day of cleans,  and every time we up houses, that amount gets paid into the account.

I just text all mine off cleaner planner with text local Daz. Can text them all in about 10 minutes.

Odd one that I have no number just post a letter.

And I wouldn't just put them up either without letting them know. I would expect a few to take offence to that and rightly so, bit cheeky that... Its not hard to let people know.

this doesnt sit right with me for some reason.......TBH id be a bit miffed if i had a window cleaner and he just put his prices up without notifying me first....its just common courtesy IMO......

I agree Daz. Just because you CAN get away with something, doesn't mean you should.

My letter is usually like this,

Dear ______________________

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued custom and it is much appreciated.

However it has been several years since my prices have increased in your area which they need to do to keep up with inflation and allow for investment  in replacement brushes, poles and equipment.

Therefore as of and including NEXT clean your price will be £______________________ and I hope you understand the need for this modest uplift.

Once again thank you for your custom,

Kind regards,

Easy:

Because of the brexit your windows are going up to £________

This comes into effect next month.

Or if you're a Tory:

Because of Jeremy Corbyn your windows are going up to £________

This comes into effect next month.

This has probably been said before.
When you go to get fuel for vehicle or food from supermarket do they inform you of a price increase? No.
I have only ever mentioned a price increase to the odd customer. Most accept a reasonable price increase.

However you see the price before you decide whether to buy in the supermarket or not. To present a customer with a price increase AFTER you have cleaned their windows is different to telling them before. Obv.

Anywho. If it was an issue I would go to the efforts of sending letters etc.
But in 27 yrs of cleaning it never has been.

We are more akin to energy providers, mobile phone, broadband, subscription services etc. .. They all notify customers of price rises.

Just done ours just put on ticket next clean going up to £  .
So  far only had 1 grumble .
Some have had 20% others between 10- 15 % .
Should be a nice pay rise and much deserved not done a increase for years.

Daz, you post this same thread every year mate.

Go and play some drums rather than brining up the same old ‘putting my prices up’ thread.

You old codger!

I just put on my ‘ windows cleaned today ‘ slip that there will be an increase of £ x as of the next clean. Nearly all my customers  accept the price increase, but I don’t mind at all if 1 or 2 want to cancel, I still end up with a pay rise whilst doing less work.

No but you can see the price and make an informed decision wether you will buy the item or not , just putting up the price of the clean is telling them after the event , if you cleaned my windows and did that I wouldn’t be paying  you and secondly I would be an ex customer telling you what you could do with your price rise

Very true.

Often I go to Tesco, buy my goods, then right as I’m
About to put my card in to the self serve machine a notification pops up saying “amount increased”. Please see your new price.

 ;D

A notification beforehand is the right way to go about it I feel.

I don't usually say anything these days.

However, last week I put a £65.00 account up by £10 and told them face to face. He said in response ' Thought things were coming down in price these days?'.

I just said 'Not in my world....'

Been adding £1 to all my customers prices since xmas without informing them.
Not one person has said a thing.
As has been said, people expect prices to go up. Don't make a big deal out of it and the customers won't either.
