Just went through the exercise of working out how I've gained my customers as a sole trader over the past 5 years (these are all good customers who pay up on time and don't cancel on the doorstep). Interesting to see that only 18% are from canvassing which I did myself on & off for the first two years. Didn't get much from my website either (which is admittedly a cheapo one that I made up myself):
Canvassing - 18%
Friends - 4%
Leaflets - 4%
Referrals - 37%
Walk ups - 34%
Website - 3%
What's the breakdown like for the rest of you?

I wouldn't have a clue ;D

My add on services, ie softwashing / jet washing etc would mostly be down to my website and a small proportion down to referrals.
Window work.
Recently, (several months ago till now) I have been expanding into a new village. That has expanded mostly due to the "village hub" on facebook which I can promote my company or others can refer me.
This is probably 70% me running adverts and putting myself forward on enquiries and 30% where my new customers have recommended me.
This has in a relatively short period of time, built up nearly 2 days of work per month at very good prices (esp for doncaster)

As a guess
50 % Facebook
40 % canvassing
10% website, leaflet, walk up, referral etc
-
100% referrals and walk ups.....
NO website
NO facebook
NO canvassing
NO leafleting
-
For window cleaning work probably.
50% website
40% walk ups/referrals
10% leaflets
0% Facebook
For commercial and one off gutter/conservatory cleans which I get quite a few of.
90% website
10% leaflet
