Can anyone give me advice on how they approach social media to get new customers, which is best google or facebook or other and how do you go about it, any little tricks you can do, anyone not pay to advertise and still get customers, how. cheers.

I have a Facebook page for my window cleaning service, and occasionally post on it. On top of this, there is a local Facebook 'Do you know' page with 16000+ members. I used to respond when someone was looking for a window cleaner but I don't bother now. A number of my customers are also on this page and put my name out there for me when they see the post. More often than not I get the job because my name often comes up more than others. It's local, it's free, and requires no effort whatsoever on my part!

We don't get a lot direct through Facebook, but have a reasonably good presence - if your looking just for basic window cleaning then have a basic Facebook page and update it - if your looking for good work then it takes time to run - ie.. blog, post etc
you need to keep the content fresh and not just about window cleaning - throw in some fun stuff
we also do the odd community cleaning for parish councils - this brings in a lot of hits and leads to some nice bigger work
