I’ve only taken Xmas day, Boxing Day and today off, both the wife and I choose to work, we get bored this time of year, rather take leave when we’re off on summer holidays...

Yep we’re all different mate, we prefer to work it, the wife has an easier time at work this time of year, so she enjoys it, and I don’t mind being out working at all.

We take a lot of time off in the summer for holidays.

This year we have been to Majorca for a week, zakynthos for a week, Ukraine for 5 days and center parcs twice. All between March and November.

Why did you stay in a hotel in Manchester?

I presume being Manchester you mean a Youth Hostel?

A 5* youth hostel by any chance?

Interesting - what made you choose Ukraine and how did you get on with the language?

You’ll love it! You need to hire a boat from ‘Porto Vromi Maries’ take it to ship wreck beach, and the two secret beaches, ‘white beach’ and ‘sfogio beach’

Don’t take a ‘captain’ or a stupid tourist boat. Hire your own it’s great fun, we’ve done it twice. You just need a driving license.

It’s our favourite island, but never been in May, so you may find the water cold and it won’t be as hot...

Flew into Kyiv, then traveled to poltava as we know friends of the owners of a hotel.

Kyiv is nice, but then it’s a major city like all.

The poverty and the low wages are a revelation. Average wage is £250 a month in poltava. Crazy. They are poor, really poor.

Language barrier wasn’t too bad, some of waiters speak some English.

So despite my promises to self I haven't waited until Monday to go to work.

The weather is so good for window cleaning, Mrs Gold is doing a couple of her cleaning jobs, "Our littlun" is working at the local cafe and so I thought I'd just go and do a couple of hours which ended up being 11.30 until 2.00.

Prolly do the same or a bit more tomorrow.

I want to save the planet so I’m not going to use aerosol deodorant anymore.

Cleaned the van today, a real deep clean. Haha even vacuumed the carpet shelve that the majority of you said would smell like a wet dog!  Yet with no leaks etc, the carpet tiles are still good.
So the van and the gear are good to go for this monday!

It’s been nice having a full 2 weeks off over Christmas , cleaned my own windows today just to make sure everything is ok. Ready to go back on Monday , can’t believe it’s not rained at all for the last 2 weeks and just when we are ready to go back , the rain returns ffs   ::)roll ;D

Christmas is the only time I totally switch off from work. I stop work lunchtime on the Friday before Christmas and take two whole weeks off. This time I'm not going back until Tuesday, we had a family bereavement in October and I'm executor of the woll, so had loads to deal with. Then I threw myself back into work full tilt to catch up and finally slammed into the buffers just after Xmas. Even though I'd been off a week I had burned myself out, so another day just to make sure I'm fully recharged to go back. Hoping this year my carpet cleaning business will take off and I can spend less time on the windows.

I did my first day back yesterday. Had a small School in/out and a large office internal only booked in so a very well paid day to start the new year.

A bit of van maintenance and a clean out today and I’m good to go for Monday.

Feeling well rested now for the Xmas break and even managed a few nights away in Anglesey.
