Title: Gardiner Backpack problem
Post by: James Styles on December 08, 2019, 02:27:02 pm
I ordered a Gardiner backpack back in April, the backpack has been great but today it has started playing up, when switching on the number 1 power and using the flow control it is not working at all, only when I put it on the power 2 (full power) it works, when using the flow control usually you would hear a little click sound, I don’t hear that anymore it’s just not working, nothing happens at all no power. I need this backpack for my work as I am currently working from a car so as you can imagine this is a nightmare, will I have to send this back, how long would that take getting it back. I have also emailed gardiner systems  :(

I would strip it down and check all your electrical connections, make sure there is nothing loose and are in good condition first.

open it up and check all the connections - backpacks are a great tool but don't seem to handle day in day out use without something coming undone

just take it apart and inspect it

its a basic setup will be easy to diagnose the fault,

you can find any parts on ebay

I’ve opened it all up, checked all parts, everything is connected fine?
The flow control fuse must just be dead... :-\

If you have already emailed us then I am sure that one of the Customer Service Team will get back to you on Monday.

The most likely cause is either that a connection has come adrift on the 3 wires feeding the flow controller or the flow controller has packed up.

These flow controllers can be simply replaced and connected up with Twist-on connectors.

The pump and flow controller units have a 6 month warranty - so if this is the issue then you would need to purchase the above items.

Advice that I always give to backpack users - If you are using this as your only system for all of your window cleaning then it really is a good idea to have a spare backpack as if this single backpack fails your work basically has to stop.

Thank you for the reply Alex. I have checked all connections and they are fine so I guess the flow controller has packed up which is disappointing.
My relative ordered me another backpack earlier today as I need it urgently for work so once I can repair this one I will have two.
I will order the flow controller as well later today, do I need to order anything else with it to fit? Cheers

Sensible plan  :)

Just the 3 twist connectors to attach the three wires (unless you have other connectors to hand).

Or you could just open it up and replace the £10 - £15 pump/battery  ::)roll

To be honest i have had loads of backpacks in the past and in long run its better to just buy a brand new one and start again ,i have been in the wfp side of things over 20 something years and time you have messed about fixing them its not worth it to me

Think we’ve got 9 of these. Order some spares, charger, socket, battery, variable resistor and pump and  you’re sorted. Keep out of the frost and charge them regularly and they’ll do thousands of hours. Sometimes the connections need a little soldering.

It might be worth watching numerous you tube vids (haha ive done some myself on the subject but long winded 😂🤔)  on how to make  a trolley system yourself.  These are very easy to make and by doing so yourself, you become aware of how to fix any faults that may come around. Also you can order various spares and so you can quickly do a repair whilst on the job by removing 4 screws.

I had a mate bring one round for me to fix for him a few years back and I have to be honest I wasn't impressed with the wiring in it at all. The connections were all really badly made. Looked like it had been done by somebody with no knowledge of electrics at all. I basically had to rewire the whole thing.  According to my mate I was the only one to have ever opened it up since he bought it new, so it must have come from the factory like it.
I bought myself a small 16ltr generic one  one off eBay a while back and the first thing I did when I got it was to open it up and check all the wiring. It wasn't brilliant either, so I rewired that as well.
