Title: GoCardless - Quick question
Post by: mgba_78 on October 29, 2019, 09:19:12 pm
So we're looking to reduce our workload chasing monies owed and it seems Go Cardless will help massively with this.

Ive had a quick play around with it but can work out or see how to set it up correctly.

Can someone explain how you would go about setting up a customer as from what i see it asks for a date to repeat the payment, well obviously its very rare we're bang on time so what happens??

Im a bit confused about how you go about setting a customer up whos payment date can be different every month??

Confused . com here!!

I’m in the same boat.

Are you using round software? I’ve found it easy incorporated into aworka.

Just grab an email address off a customer, clean, invoice through aworka manually first time & they can one time setup through the link in the invoice.

Payment is then taken automatically but only after each clean is marked as done.

It is the way forward imo.

Great question

I called go cardless and explained this

Not getting around exactly same time every month.

Couldn’t get a straight answer
I use George software

I have a couple of customers earmarked to be dumped

But sometimes think standing order would be simpler 🤔

But have to refund credit for missed cleans 😤

I tried using software to help organise my affairs and to help with my taxes but on this I prefer old school and still use a good old fashion book n pen!

So at the end of the evening, i whip out the phone and start processing that days payments manually. I have a standard message which I simply paste into the description, so that doesnt take much time at all.

Ive edited all my customers into a business name which is simply their house number n street name.
So in the search bar, i just type in say "25" and it brings up all my 25 door numbers and i select the one I need. Paste in the description and enter the amount, job done and move onto the next one.
It really doesnt take that much time in the grand scheme of things and that little bit of effort on my side ensures i get paid on time.

Therefore I dont really set any up as regular payments on 4 or 8 weeks etc. Simples

House number ............. check👍
Enter the amount........ check 👍
Paste message....
"Windows cleaned during week beginning Mon 28th October.  Thank you"            check👍
Process             check👍
Next job!

Couple of questions, do you have a website? What software are you using?

Couple of questions. 1, do you have a website and 2, what software do you use?

It may well be the way forward and may work in years to come with the next generation but it’s not popular with the older generation today,I was talking to a few customers about this that pay online.
They are fine about paying online 80-85% pay online now for me but this direct debit way of paying would not be doable for me,it’s not liked by as many people as some WCleaners have said in the real world.

I think the key point is getting over to the customer that it's not a monthly direct debit. It's only triggered after a clean, no matter what your frequency is.

Nathan, your way sounds painful!

I find it depends upon the age and mindset though of the client.  I have old dears who are still very active and are clued up on facebook and are happy to set up a direct debit or get a family member to help set it up.
However, i also have some old dears who are just watching life go by and are always in and ready to pay cash, which is also very good

Old and clued up or very wealthy it’s not happening for some m8,even people with lots of money still want to pay you when they want to pay you.
I don’t mind some customers having a bit of control over paying me,I send out texts as a reminder and that works well for me,depends on your business it works well for businesses that need to get money in quick to pay staff-bills for quick cash flow, slow and steady wins the race as long as it’s steady.
I know when I clean some they won’t pay me straight away even if they are in I don’t mind,it comes a week or so later but it always comes.

No the trick getting them to understand it is a direct debit and not online banking nor a standing order.   A couple of times i get a ridiculous message saying          "weve looked at your paper work but cant see where your bank details are!"

Well re read it, as it clearly says to go to my website (which is keyed/typed out for them) and use the link to fill out your direct debit mandate.

In person if they ask, i remind them its the same way in which they probably pay most of their bills and that the amount billed is always with the business end.
However, this is few n far between. It just makes me chuckle with how many thickets there are and this is mostly the late 20's - 40's range who should know better.

I would disagree Simon, (check out my facebook reviews at how many mention they like the easy direct debit scheme)  to get new customers to sign up is easy and to spend 20 odd mins processing the days payments whilst chilling is a doddle

Easiest way I've found is to just get an email address, add it to aworka, it auto sends the invoice after each clean & collects payment. Job done.

Aworka even marks it as paid & adds the fee to your expenses. No more cross referencing from my online banking to aworka which is time consuming and painful if the banking site times out too soon. Aworka  automatically does it all for you. I love it. I want them all on it.

Ok make a little more sense that they only pay after i click the cleaned button, which eventually will also be linked to cleaner planner.

The real issue is we have been on a major push last few months and have 1200 customers and now employ and just about to have a 3rd van out on the road, the time involved with logging onto bank and scrolling through pages of payers and ticking them off is tedious now, not so bad when we only had 600 odd customers but now we need the time spent here doing other things.

I know were not going to convert everyone straight away, but the people who already pay via BACs and the people who are crap at paying are our first targets, as the time this will save alone will just help with less admin lol
Cheers
