Hi there all - as you may know I am looking at a new "device" to run George on.
On Wednesday I emailed George on users@georgesystems.co.uk asking what it can run on and am awaiting a response.
Have any of you had to recover your George files from them and how quick did it happen?
How quickly do you get a response from them when asking a question?
-
George will run on a Windows tablet or a palm PDA.
I have used a Palm for years. There are still plenty available cheaply on ebay.
Regarding back up and recovery I pay £12 a year and can recover files whenever needed.
I also back up to a memory stick and could recover from that.
Very pleased with George, suits my operation so well.
Have always had excellent support from Paul.
Hope this helps.

It does - however I asked a simple question on Wednesday and have had no response - what email or other way of contacting do you use?
-
It’s been a while since I needed to, but from memory I contacted them through the link on their page.
Maybe on holiday?

‘George’ certainly isn’t the way forward. I switched to aworka some time back & am very happy with it. I would try it or one of the alternatives such as cleaner planner or squeegee etc.

... and you are right, but for a one time price of £50 we have enjoyed a good scheduling program for many years. We purchased George in July 2006. Yes, we were part of the test phase and software development, but its served us well overall.
Some of these cloud based programs with more features would have cost us between £15 and £25 a month for 3 cleaners and needed internet connected phones .

I agree Spruce, but George has just about had it’s day. I’m not gonna start slagging it off as it was great for me once but there’s been no new development for sometime now. It’s stuck in a timewarp.

Were you able to transport your data across? And how simple was it to do?
-
No need to bother with the data back up to the George server. Is no different than using your own cloud.
Just set George to auto back up on shut down to your cloud drive. You can then recover it in seconds from any device when needed.

my data was imported into cleaner planner from george effortlessly.......no having to input all 350+ jobs!great!i know its costing me £15 a month but its well worth it IMO.
its very easy to use,the smartphone app is good and ive cut down on admin time to a bare minimum (plus i save on paper and ink)
syncing is quick,slick and smooth........
when i think of the problems i had with pocket george and an overpriced PDA.....it makes me wince! ;D

Chris at aworka does it for you when you trial it. You just send your latest George backup. I ran the two programs simultaneously as it is a bit of a learning curve, like anything new.

I think George is great, does everything i need it to.
Paul usually replies within 3 days.

Thanks. I'm happy with "George" too. However I sent a simple question to "users@georgesystems" on Wednesday afternoon and haven't received a reply.
Is that the correct email address?

I agree that George is rather dated but it still serves its purpose.
I was getting a bit frustrated with pocket george about a year back because the pda's battery was on the blink. I replaced it and haven't had an issue since.
The one thing that we don't get with Pocket George is the ability to add jobs, cancel jobs and make customer detail changes on pda. But I just can't justify to pay £180 a year plus the additional monthly cost of a data plan on my phone for a slightly better scheduling program. (Actually it would cost more per month as there are 2 of us and we each have our own customer base.)
If I went to added expense I could put the whole program on a windows tablet but so far we have managed these past 14 years with what we have.

"support@georgesystems.co.uk" is the email address I've always used to get hold of Paul.
I don't know how 'Dan the Man' fits into your George system, but going to a cloud based system could mean additional costs as he would be a second user.

you can add jobs on the CP smartphone app and you can slot them into the place you want them and theyll stay in that order for next month!,you can change the price of a job and save it for next clean(or just change it for this clean)
when it comes to holiday time its 2 clicks to move your work forward a week or two...its great...well worth the money to me....
the drag and drop feature is dead easy and really flexible when it comes to rescheduling on the main site.much easier and better than george.....
its easy for me to check my online banking on my phone (anytime day or night) then go into the CP app and update whos paid etc and itll update the main site too....the syncing is much better......
its made worksheets/debtlists so much easier to manage and update on the go...i think its brilliant........
i dont get how so many window cleaners dont like spending money on their business to make it more efficient and easier...... ???

Some are old school & don’t like change for whatever reason.
I don’t like change for change’s sake but I’m always open to new ideas to move my business on & make my life easier & more profitable. Otherwise we’d all still be climbing ladders instead of using wfp, univalves, lighter brushes etc etc.

I've never failed to earn more money every year( than the previous year)since I went wfp over 9 years ago so I dont mind spending out a bit.....
I wont need to spend much at all for the next few years now though..... :)

I've just forwarded my email to that address - thank you.
Dan the Man is completely separate from me (except he gets his water from me and uses my trailer, gutter vac, backpack and generator) and has bought George for himself.

I find Paul takes a day or two to reply sometimes.
I’ve got a Microsoft surface go 10” tab that is excellent for running George. Went through a few cheap glitchy tabs but this thing is excellent for around £350

I have sent emails to support and users @ George since Sunday (its now Thursday) without reply as, for some reason, only George wont print from my laptop. I removed and reinstalled, relying on the internet backup to restore files but, in the absence of an emailed link, it seems that cant be done. (Didnt have another backup source - lesson learned!)

time to move to a more modern program mate.... ;D

Been looking at options. George has always suited my needs but I cant keep waiting much longer. I will update here if it gets resolved :)

Try support@georgesystems.co.uk
I tried users@georgesystems.co.uk and got no response (I know the website instructions say to use this).

Got a reply today and backup files - that bits good... but the fact that George is the only thing my laptop wont print from is still a mystery. Second new printer and still the same issue - test pages, word docs etc, all print, but not George. Never mind. At least its the weekend ::)roll

I had this issue way back. I worked it out myself and found it was the anitvirus software blocking the connection to the printer with George. You might need to turn off the firewall or set a permission if memory serves me correct.

I had a print problem when I changed printers.
Last printer went out of the window!
Now I save stuff I want to print as PDF
Then on my print page I have to select the printer, as it comes up Microsoft pdf.
Then it prints ok.

I had the same thing when wirelessly printing from George. No problem when plugged in to the printer. It done my head in for a week or so but in the end I decided to move on with my life... bloody frustrating
And still a mystery
