Title: Quick-LoQ No more jamming on poles
Post by: H MAN on June 21, 2019, 11:43:21 am
Sick of the female square lock sticking or jamming onto the male square lock connection. Here is the solution to this problem. Can do this both on Gardiner Quick-LoQ or Australian Wiel-Loc.

Nice one Herman if it works, though personally I haven’t got time. I’ve gradually replaced my older ones as they were a bit hit or miss.

I think the machining tolerances are much better on the ones Gardiner’s sell now. I haven’t had a bad one for a long time. From reading on here I think it’s the regular angle adapters that are often jamming now. Maybe the same trick works?

Hmm 🤔.....

Hairdryer ✅

While that is an in depth solution it’s not as quick as a file.

Also I’d have concerns about heating the plastic then throwing it into a cold bucket of water this is very likely to harden and make the plastic brittle so could snap when under load - ie 30 ft up in the air being pressed against the glass

The reason these things stick is due to water being absorbed into the plastic causing it to swell I think what you are doing with the heat gun is evaporating the water so it reverts back to its original size . All this is far to much faffing about playing with heat guns etc in this country if we get a problem we phone Alex up and he sends out a replacement  free of charge I think they have slightly altered the manufacturing tolerances so it happens a lot less now

Yes plastic absorbs water especially nylons (example nylon 6 can up to 0.6% in the wrong environment.
So would not be something you use on tight tolerances in the first place.
Also noted that the male quick lock is exact size no tapers on the ends.
Why???
When making these the one in video there has to be a very slight taper to allow it to be able eject out of the mould.
So when putting the male quick lock in, it’s a tight fit when pushing near the end.
So when it gets wet of cause it is going to jam in this particular quick lock part.
However it would appear that manufacture has not took this in to consideration.
All we have done in video is taper the male quick lock so it can be taken in/out easily.
And finely to do this will not affect how it fits into the other quick lock fittings..

Yes plastic absorbs water
Why do plastic bags float on top of the sea then?
Why don't we get great big carrier bags lying on dry ocean beds?

So appears that never listen to video or might of not watch it at all.
First thing we did was have template female quick lock.
Heated it as seen in video then put in vice tightened to about a 1mm then have vice grip pliers to do same .
Let cool off for about 10 minutes.
So this is what you put your male quick locks in after you heat them as shown in video.
End result is you have a male quick lock that goes in/out no sticking or jamming ever.
When set up you can do as many male quick locks as you need.
So if you using say 10 poles to do this many might take about 15 minutes NO FAFFING AROUND.
But if you happy to put up with these sticking or jamming.
Then buy more where it might do the same thing.
It’s your money you throwing away.

I fixed mine with my mobile phone. No FAFFING

Try it with the Australian ones, phone up the supplier, tell them it’s not fit for purpose and demand your money back or a proper fitting.

Because the fish eat the bags 😁

Yes I agree - loads of video’s on stuff that’s 10 years out of date  ;D

Hman - so what are your thoughts on heating up the quick lock then quenching it - which in the most likely event makes it brittle then it fails while someone is scrubbing a window 30ft up and the brush flys off hitting a passer by or damages property ie. a car ?

Good point.
I went to the chippy the other week and by the time I got home my fish had eaten the bag I was carrying them in.

The planet's dying because of all the bloomin' plastic and tape that you keep using!
And the forum's not dying; it's just pining for the fjords.

Regarding the female template you might want to reinforce it with hose clamp like in the picture.
It may split at the corners under force.
Make sure to heat the male connection properly.
