I think nathan means he doesn't get behind with his work schedule BECAUSE he just gets on with his work when its wet....
I'm the same(unless it's really hammering it down).....
I have enough time off over xmas and summer holidays(I will have had 17 days off by the time I'm back at work at present)to take time off on a normal working week because of a bit of rain....
-
The forecast in my region is rain, rain and..... that's right, more rain all week!
Some may argue, they have enough money in the bank not to worry about it. That's fine! However I don't wish to have money in the bank, in order to cover the bills just because its raining for a week. I have money in the bank for bills and the rest is for...... Well non of ya business but it sure ain't to cover bills on a rainy day ;D
Some will be pacing, worrying when the endless rain will stop because they will fall behind with their working routine. Again, I don't have to worry about this.
Some may say it isn't a problem and they can reschedule their routine. I say, why change the routine, I don't ;D
If it rains too heavy and for a long duration, we'll you all know the solution, I jump in the van and carry on working ;D ;D

Especially one that claims to only do part time hours.
-
Only a numpty would work in this! ;D ;D
It depends how heavy it is in your area compared to mine doesn't it!
Can you not even do half a day? I'm sure you could. So I don't mind being judged as a numpty by some on here who I don't even know 😂, but who's the one earning and who's not.........
Sean, isn't it time you gave it a rest with your pointless attacks yet. What does part-time hours have to do with anything? Especially when I've stated many times, that I take off the time that I wish, rather than the weather dictating it.
Look, you want to stay out the water, so be it.

Is it not time to give it a rest with your pointless wibble, most of us will work between showers and in light rain and to miss the odd day when its heavy wont make much if any difference on our yearly targets, wibbling on about digging into savings and not earning just describes a person working hand to mouth.

Are you banned from other forums mate, or don't you use them? Not many will work in between showers or even attempt to go out, they look at the forecast and reside to the fact its going to rain all day or all week.
My post is opposite to suggesting hand to mouth with the savings Sean. You seem to always consider things from one way, your way. It seems very closed minded to me.
Anyway, time to jump back out the van and continue cleaning........ How about you buddy? Tucked up at home sucking on lemons ready for your next negative encounters

No its dry here today Nathan, infect I could count the number of times Iv missed cleaning this year due to heavy rain on one hand, if you are going to wibble about what guys are saying on other forums then don't get upset if guys on this one don't know what you are going on about.
-
Plus if guys on other forums don't need to work between showers and light rain then fair play to them, I'm certainly not going to brag because I have to.

Yes, business is really starting to take off.
-
Let's just remind ourselves, that this topic is called:
"so glad I don't work in the rain!"
My post was in line with this but in direct conflict.
Then, this was posted
So glad I do work in the rain
;D ;D
Why ?
I don't understand . There is nothing to be glad about surely ?
So I went on to answer said question.
It really is that simple, if ones don't like my answers, then don't post questions or negative remarks to my posts which begs for a response.

How did you "land" that job? ;D

I agree with Nathan.
"I can't work in this" is mostly in your head
Full day yesterday and will be a full day today.
And tomorrow
I want the days off i choose not the days off I am forced to have.

So many of you lot on this forum are a bunch of wet pansies seriously.
Why would you let something as miniscule as rain affect your earnings. I don’t let rain affect how much i want to earn in a year or let it affect our schedule at allz
If you lot want to stay at home and watch daytime tv then thats fine.
I however don’t let rain decide when i can or cant work. I work when i want all year round no exceptions unless i decide to take time off for holidays or sickness etc.
Can’t understand why there are so many of you on this forum that would happily lose possibly 1-2 weeks of earnings per year due to rain.
Theres my rant for the month.
Nathan im with you on this one 100%, dont listen to any of em.
Its pi$$ing down here in North Wales i aint coming home until we’ve done atleast £400!! Got to save for a lambo one day at a time. ;D ;D

It's not about losing one or two weeks a year it's about losing customers period.
Tried it before on the round that is literally outside my door....122 houses in total.....on average every other one that was in asked me not to do them and some of the others weren't happy.
You can't educate them when they don't want them doing when it's raining....that day it was sort of in between light and heavy rain but no wind so it was noticeably raining.
If I wasn't a window cleaner I wouldn't want them doing either.

For me its simple, working in heavy rain is not only miserable but it makes the working day much harder, if I wanted a job where I needed to do a 40 hour week all year round then I would have stayed in a factory but as I don't then it makes sense to work when the conditions are more pleasant and easier, Nathan K is well known for making things as hard as possible so it doesn't surprise anybody that this would include working in weather conditions that he doesn't need to be working in.

Yet that's what a lot of us are doing, so it shows it can be done. I've done so for last four years and not lost a customer due to it yet and any new customer gets told I work in the rain
-
I don’t believe you work in the rain Nathan. In fact, you spend so much time during working hours on here, that I’m not sure you work at all.

Depends, what hours a working day means to you? At the moment I'm sat in the car, outside the school, doing the school run. So yep, Ive clocked off now and time before that, I was having a bite to eat in the van so I can avoid dangerous Toby Carvery gravy 😂

I have to disagree, I think I've got it set up as easy as it can be for efficiency.
1) large brush to cover greater expanse of
glass/frame
2) plenty of water coverage on said brush/glass
3) hot water to make easier the cleaning effort
4) I don't have to carry my pole hose or main hose
5) I do various add on so not to get bored
6) I enjoy short working days, long wknds and I don't
mind getting wet whilst I'm working.
😂😂 Easy

That is where you are wrong. You can educate your customers. Your customers are used to you not cleaning in the rain, so therefore their natural reaction would be to complain because you've made it clear you dont clean in the rain.
When you force your customers to accept that you clean all year round in all weathers, it does not take long before they even bat an eyelid when you turn up to clean in pouring rain. You educate them to how you run your business. Throw in a satisfaction guarantee or free reclean as a bonus, and you dont get any issues from customers when cleaning in bad weather.

That is totally fine and each to their own for what they want. However some of us would like to earn more money, and work all the time, and not be dictated to by something as out of our control as the British Weather!
I personally find working in the rain to be enjoyable. It's humbling. When you get home soaking wet, to realise whilst everyone else was at home doing bugger all, you've made £250-£300 that is a nice feeling, and the hard work feels truly rewarding.
I just think some people on here should be a bit more open to the idea of working in rain, and i mean proper rain. Also not putting those down who do work in the rain like we are crazy.

So then Darren, where and when have I upset you recently. As you seem to be joining the band with Sean and try to pick fault with my posts now as well. What's changed this year for you?
You keep thinking its personal Nathan but for me and others your posts tend to give good examples of how not to do things which is why they get picked on, its like you have run out of sensible things to do so in order to keep the boredom at bay you have added nonsense to the list.
-
I used to, but not so much any more.
Got a full day in yesterday and nothing done today. Tomorrow looks workable.
I hate the wet van seats for a few days after.
Always worked Monday to Thursday with Friday as catch up or a day off.
Very rarely is the forecast right and even more rare is a day like today with constant medium to heavy rain.
Replaced my membranes, not a wasted day
-
Work in the rain or dont work in the rain........its up to you it's your business.......
But dont moan about being behind schedule or being skint because then itll be entirely your own fault for slacking off......
I've been doing this job for many years and used to slack off myself a lot when it was wet during my trad days but no need to with WFP.......also most customers never say a word about me working when it's raining.....
I like to keep on schedule, have the days I want off and keep the money coming in.....
I feel worse having the day off than I do working in wet weather
-
I worked all day , was light rain all day , got soaked but hey ho. Got home and checked my bank account. everyone’s been paying all day so happy days 😁

take 2 waterproof jackets to work with you and swap them at lunchtime.....its makes a world of difference on a wet day......

I work Trad and do like to work in the rain.
Nobody at my first job which is 2 holiday cottages so completed that, then the next job a couple of doors up the woman came running out saying "I don't want them cleaned as it is raining, I never want them cleaned in the rain, I don't care if you can't come back this week or not, you can come back next month".
Next village I have 5 in a road, it was steady rain but straight down and not hitting the windows, so I asked each of my customers if they were ok with me cleaning them, they all said yes. The last but one customer who is a perfectionist asked if I had cleaned the other neighbours in the road, I said yes and he said "go ahead", I took extra care and always detail so there is not even 1 drop of water of the glass.
He chatted with me and seemed happy, paid me, while I was there my last customer called him (they are friends) and said she did not want me to clean. I asked if it was because it is raining or because she is out, he said because she is out so I said I can clean them as she only has a small gate. He told me not to.
So I called her in the evening to rearrange and asked why she did not want them cleaned and she said because it was raining.
My friend is a domestic cleaner at the perfectionists house and she told me he told her straight away that I had cleaned the windows in the rain, she said "oh, he normally asks the customer first if they want them cleaned or not" the wife said "to be fair, he did ask". He showed the cleaner some rainbow marks on the conservatory door, I still do not know why it left those marks.
So even if a customer says they don't mind if you clean in the rain, they may still not really like or want it.
-
Please sir may I clean your windows today. ;D
Set out your conditions from the start and you’d save yourself all the begging.

Defo not a good way to run a business, you book a load of work in for the following day then ask each of them if they will allow you to work ::)roll
What would you have done if all of them said no ??? Just drove from customer to customer asking if you can work and then go home empty handed ???

TOUGH, FIND ANOTHER CLEANER

As above, asking if you can clean windows whilst it's raining is asking for trouble.
All I do when I get a new customers, is a quick speal of how I work. Ie I leave the water on the windows for them to dry clear as it's purified water. I also work in the rain as it doesn't effect the quality and payment is by direct debit.
Then they get a welcome pack which has it in writing as well. I've covered all bases, very quickly.
Never lost a customer in four years on wfp working in the rain
When I was trad though, I never cleaned in the rain

Having the odd customer that requests a ‘not today’ is fine and I’m sure we all have them, but asking permission to clean from every potential customer is quite another.

I agree, if your having to ask then deep down you don't thinks right - therefore don't clean - that is a better option than P!$$ing customers off - for the record anything more than light rain we don't clean - we don't lose revenue either - we simply catch up later in the week or on Saturday

I know it doesn’t happen very often, but what would you have done this week? Since Monday afternoon we’ve had nothing but really heavy rain and tomorrow looks the same. How would you make up 3 days?
Personally I don’t clean domestics in the heaviest of rain but I always have a couple of Gutter/fascia cleans to drop onto so I don’t lose turnover. Tomorrow is all commercial so will be cleaned whatever the weather.

Monday - rained off in the afternoon 1/2 day outstanding
Tuesday - rained all day - pressure washing works - soffit/fascia cleans - no windows
Today - rained off in the afternoon 1/2 day of window work outstanding - but s/f/g cleans done and full roof clean carried out
So.....
Tomorrow will be attack all outstanding works and hopefully dig in to tomorrows cleans
Friday - more catch up and Fridays work
Saturday - anything (if any) left to clean
I do have a part timer I can call in if required so I can decrease the workload per man if it gets really behind but never needed to in 9 years

just to add - a standard working day is based on each man being on the glass from 8.30 to 3.30 - to catch up the guys are on the glass at 8 am and go through till 6pm

YEAH! - they are Only customers - how dare they even think of challenging you about what work they want doing ::)roll

Having the odd customer that requests a ‘not today’ is fine and I’m sure we all have them, but asking permission to clean from every potential customer is quite another.
i agree danny, dont ask just crack on....if they come out and say they dont want them cleaning then i skip them til next clean(in reality it very rarely happens)....
i reckon ive had 2 or 3 "not todays" because of rain in the last few years.......
trad is different though.....if the rain is hitting the windows on one side of the house they can dry streaky with detergent and a squeegee or wet cloth marks......

I think the world of trad work has also improved over the last several years. I used GG4 (or3, the blue one) in my last year of trad work and it was amazing. It took some experimenting to get the right consistency, but once I did, it was great. Even four weeks later, with rain in between, the windows were still clean. A lot of cleaning products for the trad window cleaner does not leave the residue on the window, like the old school fairy liquid anymore.
I couldn't do trad work in the rain today though, wearing water proofs would get in the way for my liking. Wfp makes it so much easier on all levels
