Thought as we were going somewhat off topic I would start a new thread

John,

The first month of using a backpack, you'll use loads of water; scrubbing the frames; worrying and rinsing loads.

Once you settle down, you'll use around three barrells per day, around 75 litres.

I've no doubt about that, since I work with Wor Lass and clean a fair amount of houses using the backpack doing 'tops only'; generally.  I may use an extra 25 litres in the winter mind, but I need another winter's practise to find out.

I always take 100 litres out with me, but more often than not return with a full 25 litre barrel.

Why not put a post up asking if any local WFP user would supply you with pure-water?


I live loosely in the Minehead area ( 15 miles away ) and there are 2 WFPers around but not very friendly especially as I have 'taken work' off them recently.  One more than doubled his trad rate '' to pay for the investment '' and the clients were not happy about such a hike in rate especially as he topped up his water tank at their place when he visited without asking if they were on a meter - they were! The price I quoted was about right - ish for trad but when I go WFP it will be a good earner.

Anyway I have people scouring property, lock-up garages etc etc but because its so rural its proving difficult. Hopefully something will come up soon but in the meantime I wondered if I could just use a DI unit because I am 75 TDS out of the tap. If I took enough water with me I thought I may be able to 'convert' it on the hoof.

Any thoughts?

75 is ideal for di only my tds is 73 i only use di, The added expense of an RO is just not worth it to me , a 25litre bag of resin will last me at least 3 months ,less than £5.00 a week

If your still looking for a lock up or something in the minehead area, I can ask my brother, as he live's in minehead,

what are you looking for a lockup for, and have you tryed the local farms around you?

Hi jeff, regretably Minehead is too far away at 12-13 miles, but thanks for trying.

I think the problem is close to being sorted and  hope to clear up a few things early next week.

Dave, thanks for that.  I am aware of your tank and DI system which I saw a couple of days ago which is very interesting but I was wondering if in the short term I could take tap water in containers and force it thro a portable DI unit 'on the round' cus at present I only work one week in 4 on WCing although I foresee that increasing over a period of time.  Just a thought!

I put tap water in the van ,draw it through the pump then di vessil, this is a great way of doing it, if you use a portable di unit ,you will need pressure from a tap or a portable pump to do this

thanks Dave, I thought that may be the case  .  . 

  .  .   me with the the backpack loaded on a trolley, a pole  and  followed by an articulated lorry carrying a couple of tons af water, a generator, miles of wires and a pump capable of sending water from Coniston to East Sussex all thro a portable DI unit   -  cracked it!    ;D    ;D
