Well it was lucky I didn’t sell up just yet as had a bit of a setback last week , turns out that mild steel is not man enough for the job!
I had the exhaust wrapped to keep the heat in , it worked too well and blew out the welding on the pipe seam !
I have now built another one with an outer coil added to help cool the exhaust and do away with the heat wrap , will be testing today with feed temps and heater temps after warm up
I also am having a 304 stainless version made up , this should be a step closer to being able to sell a few of these things!
The blown pipe after 3 months at 400*c

And this is water temp after 4 hours work , as the day goes on the supply water gets hotter due to the return to tank when the pole is off

Your a clever cookie mate.
Keep up the good work.

Run it on heating oil runs cleaner less soot build up and from approx 50p per litre.

Where do you buy small quantities of heating oil from?
-
I can only get 500 delivered at a time and then only if it goes into a proper oil tank.
I have seen it on eBay at silly money, so not worth the bother.
I don’t get any sooting up at all anyway , the heater is always working full pelt and I can get 4 six hour days from my 10L tank so it’s not really an issue
-
I’m going to redesign my hose reel today in aluminium and while it’s out I’m going to wrap the outer coil of the heater so it can take maximum heat from the burner tube , I should be able to program the diesel injection so it runs on peanuts 🤪
-
If you do sell any, once up n running. I will be interested.

You mean kerosene? Loads of filling stations sell it. About 60p/litre.
Maybe different in urban places I guess.
-
You wouldn’t be able to use kerosene as it kills the fuel pump within weeks , I hear 25% kero to 75% diesel is doable
Kerosene is about £7 a litre in the big diy stores and still silly money on eBay

I don’t as I have oil central heating and buy 500l at a times then transfer by pump into a 20l then into a 5l drum into my campervan for my diesel heater.
The current price per litre is 47p from boiler juice.

Join the Chinese diesel heater face book many thousand use heating oil and don’t have a problem with the pump, I’m no mechanic so don’t quote me as these pump only push the fuel so not much to go wrong with them. One tipI got was the the pump is loud when using the original pump mount it resonates through the vechicle body was to suspended the pump from cable ties no more noise perfect for them cold winters nights.
Mine is The geniune 2kw heater they are like hens teeth to find as many listings for 2kw are down rated bigger 5kw.

Running them full is good for prevention of soot build up but in a campervan can get very hot if on full.
-
I did that cable tie trick on my first install !
I then mounted it properly as I like to hear what the pump is doing , plus I don’t sleep in my van ;D

Tell me about hot , 5Kw in a Fiorino gets darn hot !!!
That’s why I had to fit the second coil, not too bad at all now though

Haha I have a high top lwb ldv Maxus and that gets hot with a 2kw even in the midst of winter.
Also have purchased a second 2kw for my shed but haven’t had the chance to fit it yet., these things are great for the money, I know lots of folk with them all love them. 👍
