I had a BT enginner at my house today completing some work they had to finish from weeks ago.
Now four weeks ago when the first BT guy was here, he had to wait for a guy to come out and hold the line up, that was going across the main road, the guy came out and took this carbon fibre pole from his van and extended it maybe 25/30 in the air, nice bit of kit I thought.
Today another guy came out and told me he would have to wait for the cherrie picker to come out, so I asked him why he could not use the pole, He then told me that the use of these poles was now on hold, because of there HSE regulations. They are now waiting to see if they can use them again in the future, But the guy told me that this is very unlikely.
I asked him what BT would do with the poles that they have, and he told me like most of there stuff it will be pushed to the back of the store room. Big smile on my face I asked if BT would consider selling these's poles, and his reply was to pop into there depot tomorrow and ask them, if they will he said you would probably have to put your name down, until this HSE reg has been finalised.
So tomorrow I will pop into our local BT depot and find out some more details.
If you Have a BT depot near you, Pop in and do the same, get your name down for a carbon fibre pole.

guys picked up on this from jeff hse regulations for bt engineers, could it be that the hse find them unsafe at say above 30 ft, could it be that hse could come into wfps for training and a certificate needed when operating above this height as they find operating poles for wfp is unsafe as well.
views on the above appreciated,
sorry for highjacking the topic jeff, but it did come into my mind regarding why theyare reviewing the engineers

No problem Jinky You carry on

could it be anything to do with the fact that carbon fibre conducts and that most likely the poles they use don't have a fibreglass base section?
-
JEFF1 DID YOU FIND OWT OUT ABOUT THEM POLES?
GAZA

Gaza I went down to see there store man yesterday, and all he could tell me is thet they are on hold until BT's and HSE have finished there fisty cuff's.
It is for the reason there carbon fiber poles dont have any insulation if one of there guy's touch electricity cables, Put my name down for one though. ;D ;D

jeff iv got a bt depot right round the corner from me, very handy,

Hi Joe
go around and see if you can get your name down for a couple, My depot only have two, thats why there kept in the store room.

jeff, i have just come up with a brain wave for non insulated poles, you know how you can buy those long
long rubber thingy that hang at the back of vehicles, if we could get something like that but longer, then attatch it to the base of the pole, and any electic power will run to ground earth wire, just an idea

Hi Beefy
I didn't see one close up, but I asked the storeman how they locked, and he told me thet you twist the section to lock it.
