It is. But we’ve spent a few hours in Maryport today and I could’nt for the life of me think of anywhere else Ive been that would strike horror in to me at the thought of starting up a window cleaning business. Or any business for that matter. A forgotten corner of England. Desolate and absent of any form or sense of positivity. Quite depressing. But beatufiul.

We watched a fishing boat being unloaded there yesterday. It was fascinating.

Watching these guys go about their work and the associated individuals. In a way a fascinating life to observe. The guys on the boat, one loading the crates on to hooks, the other in a mechanical winch and the guy on the dock guiding the boxes in to stacks. I dont know how good a catch it was but they seemed to have a fair bit. I could barely understand them but it seemed they were considering going back out later. A tough life im sure of that and very different to mine.

I woukd have loved to have been able to speak to them over a coffee. The money must be good with a good catch but the costs and risks (financial and otherwise) could cripple im sure.

There’s an Aquarium in town on the front by the dock which is reasonably interesting. Lots of pubs. A fish and chip shop and a bench down the sea front half a mile from the town.

The High Street is utterly devoid.
