Title: Brexit deal could mean lowering of VAT threshold, see link
Post by: STEVE-UK on January 14, 2019, 02:06:41 pm
Hi chaps

I don't take too much notice of Brexit, however the more recent news could effect a lot of us,

companies who operate just under the VAT bracket will be affected with a 'deal'
A 'deal' would mean lowering the VAT bracket to £76k

'No deal' all remains the same at £85k

does this affect many of you?

I would worry less about that and more about what will happen if house prices fall and interest rates rise as a result. That means peoples mortgage payments will rise quickly and then they will want to make cutbacks.

I would be more worried about if it heavily snows over the next month.

Oh and we can blame Brexit for that too  ;D ;D ;D

House prices have been artificially high since the early 2000's as lending became cheaper.

Only custies to worry about will be the young ones and those mortgaged up to the hilt. Those whom have paid off the majority of their mortgage, or have done so  completely still need somewhere to live, and no doubt will still want clean windows.

But an adjustment is coming and its going to hurt..a lot.

I hope they drop the vat threshold to £10k.

Sort out the tax dodgers.

Agreed, majority customers are older and not affected by high mortgage rates, some will benefit as interest on savings would increase, however, I would expect some cancellations

If the VAT threshold  is to drop, it needs to drop to the £22k mentioned in the budget a couple of years ago, or lower, this would create a level playing field

I find it best to ignore most of what is in the Daily Mail.

Here in Ireland the VAT threshold is €37500 .

This is around the national average wage here. If you're self employed, there is no safety net even though we pay into a system which benefits both PAYE employed and unemployed.
