Title: What would you do?
Post by: Richard Stevenson on November 20, 2018, 07:32:53 am
Just had a call from a larger cleaning company asking for a quotes on 2 jobs which  I all ready clean! for a managing agent who we do lots of work for .We  do a good job on both, so to find out there going out to tender is bloody annoying. I could quote high prices in and hope they keep me , or price competitively and clean for the new company .  Any thoughts.

Price it the same and don't tell the other company that you already clean them. If you get 'em great, just shifts the burden of chasing the money to the new company. Do not in any circumstances lower your price, You'll be in a race to the bottom. If you lose them don't worry and move on, it happens to the best of us.

Price it the same and hope for the best. Pointless pricing higher because the new company will no doubt be getting 3 or more quotes anyway.

Annoying but it’s bound to happen sooner or later with sub work.

I've had it happen to me, but my experience is that when someone knows that there's multiple quotes being asked for, for a good job, many window cleaners don't even bother their arses to stick in a quote.

Maybe they think they've got enough work already and don't have to go in 'cheap', so they just don't bother.

I never bother either when a company is after the cheapest quote.  I just tell them its not my market and can't compete with the cheap corner cutting ones.   I focus on a quality service so cant help you.

So be honest with them and tell them you already do the contract and the price remains the same.  Remind them you do a proper job and they probably will find a cheaper price if they look around.

Tenders are a fact of life - has this new company actually got the work or just been asked to submit a price ?

keep your price the same by the time they add 30% they will be well over your price and you should keep the work

You should just play along, don't tell the larger company you already clean these jobs. Instead just say yea sure I'm happy to do these for (insert whatever you already charge here). Then this larger company will add a bit on top for their part, pushing the price above what you already charge, guaranteeing you keep the job.

Price as normal.

Don't take it personally, it's just business.

Classic commercial contract scenario if you ask me each cleans a bonus lol,I wouldn’t like to be in a situation where 50-60% of my work was commercial I wouldn’t sleep to well.

A commercial job I used to clean is being cleaned now for £50 less than I cleaned it for 15 years ago, commercial used to be king once not anymore.
Even if you have loads of it you’ve far more chance going belly up with commercials than you have domestics, you could lose a good domestic and could cost you 1500-2000 a year if you lose a good commercial or 3 it could cost you your house or employee.
