Misfuel diesel van this morning 😭
Heads all over the place
Wife got made redundant yesterday
At petrol station green pump was on the floor
Hooked it back and waved to check out to zero £ pump
Then picked green pump back up
Put £20 in
Was almost empty tank too
Luckily petrol station is on front of mechanics garage so with help pushed van into mechanics
NEVER started engine
Been told around £250
Anyone else done this and more importantly was van ok afterwards?
I have fiat doblo 2014 plate
Did it 13 years ago on my ford escort van!!
-
Yes..I have..
Don't spend 250...use fuel doctor it was half that I think.
-
Never done it myself but might be worth calling the AA if your a member as I saw an AA van in a petrol station last week with fuel recovery written on the side and it looked like they were draining the fuel tank of a car. Sorry to hear about your wife's job by the way.
-
If you have not started it. It will be fine to empty tank and push back to pumps and refill to full tank of diesel. It will start fine.
Dont think it would cost no more than £100 max

The extra time he spends ringing around though he could be out earning the difference.
-
I spoke to a bloke that does it he said you’d be surprised he’s flat out with work most weeks,it still happens all the time

I think that’s the case
Just hope garage do today they looked busy 😬

Thanks everyone for your advice
Will keep fuel Doctors’s number.
Thanks Simon W, hopefully wife will not be out too long
Fortunately we’re the boring type that live within our means.
Just glad I never started up van 😮

Take it fuel doctor and alike are franchises?
Knowing me if I became a franchisee in this
(never would, happy shiner)
They’d change over fueling pumps to something that eradicated the problem.
Make diesels pump triangle shape
Retro fit some triangle cover on van fuel cap
I don’t know ask someone clever not me 🤐

I once did it years ago just after I’d passed my test. Driving a works van with the choke out all morning, ran out on the express way in Glasgow. Before the days of mobile phones I was stuck. Found a fuel can in the back of the van, assumed it was diesel and emptied it into the tank. Turned out to be water!!😱 Needless to say I didn’t keep the job for long. 😂
-
Did it in my old combo, about £10 worth but being an old style diesel ( not the new fang led common rail ) the garage said fill it right up with diesel and the small amount of petrol will mix and act like a cleaning agent - which it did
Modern engines are more tricky tho

We have a garage on the entrance to our estate. We regularily see an AA or RAC van sorting a misfueled car out. There are also a couple of franchise 'fuel doctors' vans around.

i did it once many years ago.....cost me £90 to have tank drained....luckily the garage had a card of a guy who specialises in these things...he was there within 30 mins....i didnt drive it either......

Picked up from garage 4pm
£150 incl vat
Van seems fine, engine not hunting.
Sounds as before, yep you’re smudger new vans more complicated
Glad I never started engine after misfuel
All good fun
Time for some customer price rises

I stuck £40 worth of petrol in my last van without even realising. Drove 4 miles down the road, sounded like a bag of nails going round a cement mixer. Drove 4 miles back to my local mechanic, engine getting worse and worse all the way, had it drained and filled with diesel and it was absolutely fine.
-
Yes I've done t too. I put about 18 litres of petrol in my van and then :o wtf am I doing!!!? I'm in the AA so rang them and had it drained on the forecourt costing £199 :'(. I am now paranoid every time I fill up. Even when I know I'm filling up with diesel I still keep checking its diesel while filling up :-\
-
Well they should make deisels with square tank inlets and pumps nozels. Cant put a square peg in a round hole or the other way round.
At the moment deisel nozels are bigger and won't fit in a pertol vehicle. But no good the other way round.
-
See this is where i am lucky , my little van will do me the whole week on 10 to 15 a week , i only ever put 10 a time in , if i do make the mistake and notice before i start up i will just brim it with diesel and crack on ;D

Yes I’ve done this before with a 2005 Boxer, I just topped up with diesel and it was fine.

Poka Yoke it’s called. Idiot proofing basically. As with not being able to put a plug in the wrong way round.

yep i do the same mate every time i fill up!its another reason why ive got a golf GTD now and sold my petrol GTI..... ;D
2 diesel vehicles makes it easier to remember! ;D
-
Not really an issue with a bit of petrol in a diesel. I did it with a BMW 535 about 10 Litres before I realised, rang my mate he said just fill it right up with Diesel, I did and it was fine so I wouldn’t imagine a van is any issue

Glad it’s not just me 🤭
Thanks everyone 👍
Happy holiday Daz
How warm is it?😎

I did nearly exactly this in a 2006 transit and I needed a new fuel pump.

Been there, not fun lol

Never done it myself , anybody that does it must be an utter fuel ;D ;D ;D
