Title: how long are your xtreme brushes lasting?
Post by: dazmond on September 26, 2018, 06:49:34 pm
im getting about  6-8 weeks out of mine(and thats not using them every day!).i use the stiff versions due to hot water.....and after this time their knackered..all bristles splayed out of shape etc.....i also use the stiff ultimate brushes and these are lasting slightly longer at around 12 weeks..IMO the xtreme brushes should be around a tenner for the time they last! ;D

Xtreme brushes are perhaps not for everyone, but I like my kit as light as possible. I use an Xtreme 22 pole as my everyday pole and find the Xtreme brush to be a perfect match for it. Without trying, I find that I work faster with this combination.
I also find that though the Xtreme brushes may not last as long, say as an Ultimate, they do last me a decent time considering the amount of work they do. I find that they are a worthwhile tool, for me at least.

I’m currently trialling a DuPont version which is very nice. Much better on leaded glass IMHO than any other mono brush I’ve tried, and I’ve got a lot of these on my round. As for longevity, I can’t say yet but I’ve been using it for a month now and it’s still in very good shape.

i have a fair amount of estate work that have lots of awkward angle windows due to extensions and conservatories so the xtreme brush is ideal.i have to have my 25 ft pole at full extension for some windows.most other work i use the ultimate brush which i find a good compromise between an xtreme and SL.....

i have loads of superlite brushes from years ago......the thing is they dont feel "superlite" anymore(more like a brick on the end of my poles)and their a lot more hardwearing too....

One side of my Xtreme brushes always flares out, obviously from the angle I clean at being right handed. Guessing left handed cleaners find the opposite side flares out...

You can always flip the brush round Daz, that’ll make it last longer...

I take twelve weeks off in a five star hotel, that way my brushes last three months longer.

Brushes are like smartphones.

You really really don't need to keep changing them, but when the manufacturer keeps bringing an 'upgraded' model out who are you to refuse the opportunity?

It still cleans glass just like the latest one did 5 years ago.

I don’t get it. Xtreme’s don’t last long but every other brush lasts for years.

hot water knackers brushes prematurely i find.....even the ones that are supposed to be able to withstand hot temperatures dont last long.....

Doesn’t mean the manufacturers need to keep coming up with new designs though. Essentially a brush with bristles on it is a brush with bristles on it.

I've been using the extreme hybrid for probably 6 months and it still looks new.

The stocks a bit battered but the bristles are in great nick.

No I didn't Daz, but the point is that is beneficial for the manufacturer, thats not you. You're the muppet.

I use Xtreme brushes for everthing, first cleans, builders cleans, conny roofs, gutters etc etc.

Never noticed the slightest difference in scrubbing power compared to the bigger brushes.

Used to use super light, supreme and even ultimate, but have not noticed any difference at all in how quickly and effectively I can clean windows. The Xtreme, for me, does it all, it’s light and easy to use, so I’ve never bothered using anything else since.

i only use 3 types  these days....xtreme or ultimate stiff brushes and a flocked brush for delicate leaded windows.thats it.....i have been guilty of buying too many brushes in the past....any of the heavier flocked brushes that i have get used for cleaning the van and car so not wasted..... :)

i only have 2 SLX 25ft poles and a cobbled together(2 different xtreme poles) worn xtreme25 in my pole "graveyard" too.....im streamlining these days... ;D

my main reason for using a bigger brush with more bristles(like an ultimate)is its easier to get into the corners and clean the frames and sills quicker IMO esp for first cleans and larger properties.....the xtremes are great for all the awkward angle window work on my round due to its lightness but if i used it all day every day id be going though 2 xtremes a month i reckon!! :o ;D

I would agree with that.

For the last year or so ive only used extremes on maintenance cleans.

However its not the fastest brush on first cleans due to smaller size. Its also slower on georgian type as you have to kind of angle the brush around nooks and crannys, wheras a larger brush such as a sill glides over easier and gets into more areas easier.

Ive not tried an ultimate, maybe i will try one next.

Fair points lads.

I just don’t see any speed advantage over the course of a day using bigger brushes, I never felt the need to shove a big fatty on the end of my pole  ;D

I have had no issues with wear on xtreme brushes. I am on my third (medium hybrid), I change them around 9-12 months simply as I reason the bristle tips must wear, so scrub less effectively. The brush itself looks fine.

I use as little pressure as possible on the brush (just the weight of the pole) as the more the brush splays the less well it scrubs.

Maybe those that wear them out quickly are scrubbing too hard.

When I used to use my xtreme brush for everyday I found it lasted me about 5-6 months, I was happy with that with the amount of bristles they have and what they’re purpose is for then when the supreme came out I used them ever since and now I have an xtreme pole with supreme I don’t see any reason to go any lighter as my bones aren’t giving me any jip like they used to with my slx, I keep the xtreme on my 39 now for higher windows.
Some people slate them but for me they’re definitely a tool worth having in the kit for the difficult windows or those bloody windows through railings etc sometimes😂

I would be embarrassed to pull that out in front of a customer.

You wont be getting an effective clean with that, its like an un-sharpened knife! You'll be missing your top right hand corners

Haha

There's another month in that brush  :D

I don't think any customer would care less, besides I've never had one inspect my gear.

Honestly though it cleans fine, I think its 5 months old.

Ive had one worse than this before believe it or not.

I agree with your words I've still got original extreme brush and still use it today, but I'm trying a super light version and waiting on delivery of other prototypes can't wait for full DuPont version, I've said for years about DuPont every one must remember how good the Tucker brushes were but expensive, so if a new light modern version will do me.

In light of the state of my extreme brush ive been and bought a radius sill to replace it with.

The extremes are a great brush but shocking how quick they are goosed
