I'm starting to get excited now. We are nearly at our target size. 500 more houses required and I finally seem to have a stable team of people. Today I booked 300k leaflets going out in September. That will mean we have done 750k this year. I think we will actually get a few hundred over our target by the end of October. I won't lie it's been very very hard work for the last 2.5 years trying to grow at this constant pace ect. I'm really looking forward to just maintaining that for the next few years and enjoying the money and things being easier. A final goal for the next 12 months will be to reach 100% on go cardless by this time next year, we currently have about 90%.

Are you releafleting areas you've already covered this year?
-
When you get them will that mean you can afford the correct postage on your parcels 😂😂😂
-
Are you releafleting areas you've already covered this year?
No we only hit each area once a year and some less than that. It takes about 1.2m to cover everything
So far this year we gained 2.6 regular customers per 1000 leaflets

How far do you travel Lee? Or do you plan your radius on time to get there?
The trade off with too much travelling is that you can't give as much work so the productivity goes down. It's a balance.
-
About 40 miles.
Actually we find if you just leave earlier you can do the same amount of work. Our vans will leave at 6.30am in the furthest areas
-
So in fact the productivity is the same but the margin is the thing thats less as the team will be paid more further out and of course the fuel bill.

8 weekly
Update us on your royal mail campaign.
In total the number of customers gained is 350, of those 190 are from Royal Mail from around 60,000 dropped with around 50,000 to go. The remainder are from regular leafleters and walk ups etc.

Hi lee
The thing I have found with bulk leafleting is you can end up with odd outlying houses .
I suppose you have a big presence everywhere in the 40 mile radius so can accommodate.
How many will the 500 take you to
Or is that being to nosey

Actually I should have made clear that this is NETT growth. We have 350 more customers than at the beginning of the period.
-
so your at about 0.3% or 3 customers per 1000 leaflets?
I think that's good these days.

On what we've spent to date (which includes 30,000 yet to be delivered as RM are paid in advance) each net customer has cost £39. Obviously that will drop as more sign up. It's realistic to see that come down to under £30 I think (hope). Our average 8 weekly price is about £26 so absolutely smashes canvassed work on VFM.

Sounds good
I have also decided to use royal mail and have just booked 350K to go out in September. I will be pleased with anything over 700 customers or 0.2%

Well that will be an interesting comparison as I think your others are solus?

Yeah it would interesting to see if there is a noticable difference...how many other flyers do royal mail deliver with your own?

I believe there's usually 5.

Yes it will be interesting
on the solus point, if you think about it most people are out during the day. By the time they get home from work your solus leaflet could be part of a pile that has gone through that day of post and other leaflets. To get the most out of solus you need to deliver on a Sunday only.
The other interesting part with RM is delivering to the less dense countryside areas. We never deliver to them only main population areas as distribustion companies dont want to know as they cant get enough volume out to make their money.
I also feel pretty confident that royal mail will actually deliver what they say they will.

Yes, but the remote ones do cause some problems. Especially if you have fixed prices.
I’m guessing you got a better deal that £69 a thousand. I was a bit piecemeal this year with it. Next spring/summer I intend to drop about 200,000 but this time I’ll put it all on one order to get the best deal. I haven’t totted up the various orders but I think we dropped or will have dropped about 120,000 with RM. Seems peanuts compared to yours but other than a tiny overdraft it’s funded out of turnover. Total spend about £15k so far including regular leafleters.
-
we dont have fixed prices. We have starting from prices and see every house on google earth or ask the customer to email pictures first.
Yes about £57 per 1000
by the end of the year we will have done 800K

Just bought data. 100,000 addresses for residential solar panels. Should be interesting. Have to design the a5 card next. Then send out 4000 to test the water.
Are you not both in the same neck of the woods?

No, Lee's over by Gatwick, I'm in Newbury. Probably 100 miles away.
