Tomorrow will be the first day with all our vans out together. As many know we have been working hard towards this for just over 2 years since I decided to really go for it with the business. Tomorrow also promises to be our best ever day for turnover as does this month.
We are now very close to our ultimate target of just over £65k a month which I hope to reach by the end of October.
I am excited to see them all on the tracker tomorrow and to see what the days/months turnover ends up at.
work is still coming in at a good pace with 22 new houses joined today.
-
Sounds like you're doing well!
How many vans do you have?
-
11
Although 1 is a spare so its 10 out tomorrow which was always the goal.
-
Nice one Lee. I reached a couple of goals/round numbers last week.
How many leaflets are you delivering this summer. I’ve got around 130,000 going out with Royal Mail. So far 315 new customers net growth. 6 today.
-
Our total leaflets for this year will be 600,000 with a further 150,000 if needed but I hope to hit the goal with the 600k which we are just over half way through
-
What's the profit like?
-
Good when I don't spend it all on continuous growth.
-
Well done Lee
Keep it up

Great stuff!
How stressed are you? I find it quite draining doing just a fraction of that.
-
Yes it can be stressful. I cope by only working in the afternoons and I don't get involved in any of the day to day running. My office staff do all that 9-5 each day. I do the marketing and equipment/vehicle things along with the financial side. A bit like getting off the tools, I have now got off the office work too. I have removed myself from as much as possible day to day.

What about the scheduling. That must be pretty time consuming and complicated.
-
Not really. We use cleaner planner. If I'm in the office I do the worksheets for the next day or the girls do it if I'm not in. Today I did 10 worksheets for tomorrow (164 jobs) in about half hour. Just over £4000 in total on the sheets

What I find is with the constant influx of new jobs and additional staff member it’s ongoing shuffling. We’re behind as well which doesn’t help. It takes me probably more than 1/2 hour to do three.
-
We don't shuffle anything because we work on 1 round instead of each person having their own round. Also the girls in the office do all the customer sign ups and data entry.
-
Lee
Are you doing paper worksheets or do the guys have a tablet ?

That sounds as though it would be worse but obviously it isn’t otherwise you would take longer to plan. It’s covering a wide area that makes it harder so for example when you’ve got one guy in a town and able to do £400 but there’s £600 there and you’re not due back for 3 weeks.

According to some you just miss them out 🤪

Tablet.
Again we don't have that problem as our round is laid out in a fixed order moving in a clockwise circle. So as per your example if we have the same £600 in one town and one cleaner gets £400 of it the next cleaner gets £200 and the next £200 in the following town which may be a few minutes drive away. The only downside is when a customer then joins from the finished town later that week they will have to wait for their first clean until the next round there.
So when I do the work sheets I simply select the next £400 on the round list and give that to cleaner 1 then the next £400 to cleaner 2 and so on
-
Tablets make the whole thing very straightforward

Oh that makes sense. But as you say it's the wait of the new one. I get some going elsewhere by the time I get to them!
-
So do we but doing it this way generates so much more money and less hassle. Really it's the only way to cover such a big area. To try to cover it every week would just be too much driving and not enough cleaning. I find a good customer will be willing to wait a few weeks to join a long term service.
-
well done lee you are doing very well, I found it easier to do 1 man & van is 1 round which is broken into 4 or in your case 6 weeks and rotate the lads at the end of each cycle but i suppose all ways of doing the scheduling are going to have advantages and dis advantages.
is time for another update video on what car you have now to bring the trolls out from under there rocks?

Wow thats amazing. A troll is mentioned and one pops up moments later.
It really is such a shame people feel the need to be that way.
I do plan to do another video as 3 milestones will be achieved today. Cant wait for the trolling of that later.

Calm down and get a sense of humour Lee, there are plenty of wind up merchants on here but no trolls, problem is we now all know that you want to be wound up so nobody is going to bite,
Glad everything is going well for you.

Do you do many add on services or stick to reg window cleans ?

So that’s around £24 per job do you have a minimum price per job and if so how did you come up with it ? Do you get many say that’s to expensive ? What’s your conversion rate from enquiries to actual work ? We do a lot of housing estates with 3 bed semis and cannot charge anything like your prices for that type of thing we would struggle to charge more than £10 and we live in an affluent area
-
There are lots of add ons in that and I overloaded all the sheets to see how much we could do. A normal day would be about £500 less for everyone. I will go through later in my video

If you cover a wide enough area can’t you just quote what you think is right and just shrug your shoulders if they won’t pay it in an area? That’s what I do.

As 8weekly says.
I work in a mix of areas and sometimes I find the ones who live in what they feel is an affluent area are the ones who are the most tight fisted. But thats not the whole lot, so you will get some for the price you want and if not, try a different sea.
What Lee is proving is that if ones are very serious about expanding their business and very focused in doing so, that it is possible, regardless of how big you want to make that expansion

Who do you use for fleet insurance Lee?

I've been with the same broker for a while. Last year was £7.5k the quote for this year was £10k. I got quotes from another company and managed to get mine down to £5.5k from my original broker.
(10 vans, any driver over 18).

It all comes down to how you sell it and what you offer.
If I came to you and asked for a monthly window clean and you said £10, I would say ok.
If I came to you and said how much for a monthly window clean and you said £12 once a month OR £15 once every 2 months, I would go for the 2 monthly because I’m saving money.
It’s a win win for you and your customer. By doing this, it has transformed my round. I offer 3 monthly too

Enjoy

Haha, I said Soupy would have a crappy Disco and I was half right.

Nice to see your set up. Well done chap.
How do you manage your fleet of vans? Is there a reason for renault? How you finding them? I use the new Renault and love it.
-
Not sure how to answer manage vans? I don't understand the question? Always had Renault love them and main dealer/service centre is just up the road.
-

I mean keeping them maintained and serviced, repairs, downtimes. Remembering what's been done to each and when things need doing like brakes tyres oil checks etc.
-
Oh I see, sorry.
They all go into Renault once a year and have service mot and anything that needs doing done. Simple

Hi Lee
Well done with the business that's taken a lot of hard work and dedication for sure. I have too much work at the minute and am looking to expand as im losing/turning away customers on a weekly basis, just not sure best way to go about it.
Just wanted to ask what gave you the push to go for it !
Did you go Limited to protect your personal assets?
Do you employ the guys working for you (or self employed?)
Have you just gone for it or taken advice from someone ie accountant etc.
Cheers
Steve

I think the best answer I can give you is this.....
I decided that I was going to achieve my goals and that nothing was going to stop me getting there. Then I just got on with it day after day. I didn't put off, I didn't do it tomorrow or next week or next month. I set my goals and worked hard. It's amazing what can be achieved if you want it badly enough and I really wanted it.
Besides I'm not there yet. We are nearly at the end goal for our current base which is just half of my ultimate goal. In about 18 months we will open our next base and start all over again until we have the same there. 2-3 years from then I hope to say I'm done!
-
Great work Lee ....... Keep pushing mate

Nice one Lee 👍🏻
What happened to the video ??? Was looking forward to that over coffee this morning :'(

What about recovery? I had a van recovered from London back to Hereford recently, cost loads....
Trying to find a nationwide recovery policy, at a reasonable price for multiple vehicles and drivers, is proving tricky.
It was only a frigging O ring on the clutch cylinder too! Cost a fiver to fix.
-

Aye, me too.
-
I deleted it. It didn't come out very well at all. I filmed my computer screen to show figures and you couldn't see them at all on you tube. The long and short of it was we had our first day with all 10 out, our best day with just over £3700 and our best month at £62,250 we need 700 more houses to hit just over £65k every month, then this base is done and I will look to set up our new base and new area in 18 months with a goal of another 10 vans producing another £65k a month after 2/3 years.
-
I noticed you offer 6 & 12 weekly frequencies, what’s the percentage of customers on 6 vs 12 weekly?
-
About 50/50 these days which just means we need a few more houses to fill up, but when full the monetery amount day to day is higher which is actually the important figure to concentrate on.
-
What sort of percentage difference do you charge for 12 weekly compared to 6 weekly?
-
40% mark up on semi 50% on detached
