Title: chain driven electric reels....gomo(adam)
Post by: dazmond on July 17, 2018, 05:57:13 pm
hi adam so you ve had the same problem as me with your chain keep coming off....its really started to annoy me now! ::)roll >:(

came off 3 times today...phoned PF up and asked could i adjust the tension(which you do by loosening the 4 nuts on the motor)if this doesnt work then its going back... ::)roll

how much give have you got on the chain?too tight and it doesnt run smoothly, too loose and it comes off.... >:(

also the reel makes a knocking noise after every revolution whether im reeling in or pulling hose off ,pure freedom says this is normal, some reels  do it and some dont, they said they dont know the reason why.the spindle seems slightly warped to me as the inlet side with the rotary joint is a bit uneven when turning(its the same on my cox reel so this is normal i think)....

im sick to death of faffing about with it now....TBH i wish id gone for the grippatank geared reel instead........ ::)roll

I had a similar problem when fitting my power up hd, you need to make sure it’s fixed square and solidly in place, otherwise it can move out of alignment.

Are you sure it’s fixed in place properly daz? Mines bolted through the floor and working great so far , no knocking sound or wierd stuff going on with mine....

well mines a D.I.Y reel daz so i must have had something out of alignment somewhere.

Ive re fitted mine into my new van and its not come off  in 3 weeks, so by chance it all must be aligned correctly now.

I wouldnt expect this issue with a £600 reel though mate, it wants to go back...

As for making a knocking noise as normal, i wouldnt be having that either not for what they charge for them

Tbh ive been put off chain reels now, if i were to buy one i think i would go for the Grippa geared one.

mine knocks every time  the reel turns....so yours runs smoothly with no knocking?its doing my head in now.... >:(

my reel is fixed in place (screwed  through chipboard)not the van floor but its solid......

Maybe the knocking is something to do with those heat proof boards to stop it from warping  ???
I never had those fitted but you know what mate I wouldn’t be happy if mine was doing that , I would drive to Grimsby to their workshop and get it sorted.
Sounds like something isn’t quite right man , I’m over the moon with mine

That’s what I was thinking too... only one way to find out! Drill 3 or 4 holes through your floor daz and bolt it in. If that fails , take it back and kick off

it is bolted down!its solid.its not going anywhere.bolting it through the van floor is not gonna make a blind bit of difference!

Sometimes it’s better face to face instead of bouncing emails and phone calls to each other - they make them in house so they’ll be able to see the problems and hopefully put it right-

Just make sure they’re open before you set off  ;D

Hope it all gets sorted for you Daz. What a PITA. I hate taking things back but at £600 you're gonna have to go see them. It should be perfect.

I have two PF manual reels the same as Nathan had and on one of them the spindle has always been slightly warped. You can see it on the inlet elbow joint when winding. I also had to have them collect & replace a 650 stainless steel tank cage a year ago as one of the reinforcement bars was not square.

In that case you should go all out and take her to Grimsby fish market, some of the freshest and best fish from anywhere in the uk. She’ll be like putty in your hands 😂

it was mega hot and sunny in grimsby yesterday....32c.......it was ok though...butty van a short walk away and a few window cleaners(with their partners) having systems fitted/tweaked.....so there was a lot of general chit chat about window cleaning, systems etc plus there was a nice lady window cleaner just starting out(2 months in)having stuff done to her van...i wish her well..... :)

i met a few of the pure freedom crew....all seem to be very hard working down to earth chaps so all in all it was a good experience.....and my reel is working as it should now....quite a long way though.took me 3 hours to get there(with traffic and a pitstop) and 2 hours on the way back(no pitstop and less traffic)....i was glad to get home in the end... ;D
