Title: Walked away from a customer today. Would you do the same?
Post by: H2GoKent on June 11, 2018, 08:26:55 pm
Went to look at a fast food (kebab)place today, wasn't in the mood to mess around. They'd called Saturday and were less than polite.
Guy says I'm late, I say I'm not (I wasn't). He wants it done on a specific day at a specific time. I gave him the price for in and out (nice and greasy) £20
Bloke:The others are only £10.
Me:You better get them to do it then.
B: No Come on, that's too much! (Slightly angry)
Me: You best phone someone else I suppose.

Then I walked away. Good call I think, I don't tell him how much to charge for his kebabs do I!

Shame those thoughts don't always come at the best of times. I would've loved to have said that in reply.

The thing is that in pricing his kebabs he's probably factored in the cost of the raw materials, the rental cost of his retail premises, the cost of his staff, business rates and so on. Most window cleaners are just happy to be pocketing more than a guy in Tescos and the kebab shop owner realises this.

It sounds like he'd be a pita customer as well as pita vendor.

the great thing about running your own business is you can do away with so much PITA work(pun intended!)...... ;D

NO gutter clearing either.......NO tops only,NO almost flat glass roofs with hardly any fall,no builders cleans.....the list goes on..... :)

Ive found that places like these tend to try n barter a price and even throw I a free takeaway to make it sound appealing to you. Whereas in reality it costs them pence to make that meal 😂😂 that always make me laugh when they mention give you a freebie.
I gave up quoted these places a long time ago.
So will you still keep quoting for this type of work or like many have said on here, don't even bother in the first place?

I don't really like shops
I have 2, one is £10 takes 5 mins
The other is £16 takes 10 mins, I think I'll leave it at that,
had it with Maccies etc years ago
Don't really like pubs either, I've got the one which is a really good job, but most are not

I used to clean a chip shop years ago. The original owners were great (I even got free pie and chops every time I cleaned).

They retired and sold up, and the new owner was a pain from day 1.

I did 3 cleans for him, had issues each time, then after the last time I left a note for him telling him I would not be doing them again.

I don’t do shops, but in general every time a customer argues about the price, I raise it.

Eg:

Me: “the price is £20”

Cust : “Ooh I’ve had cheaper quotes, can’t you do better?”

Me: “yes, the price is now £22”

Cust: “that’s more! I said I’ve had cheaper quotes, surely you can do better”

Me: “it’s now £24, that is better (for me)”

And so on.

Price moaners make the worst customers.

I used to do a dental practice years ago. Did them for about 20 years dealing with about four different sets of management. The last was just astonishing to me.

I was originally asked to do them monthly with the insides being done every three months. Due to windows being secondary double glazing, I had to effectively do the same job 4x when I did the the insides. So the price was 4x what it was when I just did the outsides. It should have been more due to all the clambering around I had to do when doing the insides.

The last guy in charge just couldn't get it through his head and only wanted to pay 2x the cost of the outsides.

No common sense whatsoever! Even the receptionist could understand and was not happy when I walked away as she was sure the window cleaning was going to be added to her list of jobs to do

I used to do a French style boulangerie.
I always got something free to take home but it was a pain.

I get asked to clean this hot woman’s shower screen each month , it’s always really soapy like she’s been rubbing her ass on it . I kindly oblige as she’s always in her silk dressing gown , she works from home , I’m sure she’s a porn star or something because when I walked past one of the bedrooms , there were cameras set up and laptop on the bed 🛏

I used to do some shops, trad.

The only thing that was good, was people in their cars, early mornings, in traffic jams, looking at you, wondering what you were doing, cleaning windows for a pittance. They weren't far wrong! I could clean the windows, quicker than I could I write out the receipt and get paid. Complete pain. Not interested any more.

However, I did meet a window cleaner who ONLY did shops and had it off to a fine art. He was f&&king cool.

Given the chance, I would be him!

I wondered why she had some window cleaner dressed in shower, it makes sense now that video

I used to do a load of total garages weekly, trad way; was flipping brilliant. Big fat wage of tenners and twenties every week; miss those days you felt like you were a king with a hard wadge of cash after a days work; especially when youd earned  in one day what the store manager did in 2 weeks.  ;D
