Title: Cleaning gutters with 1400 watt vac and in the rain
Post by: Wolfman on April 28, 2018, 08:17:54 am
Was doing ok cleaning out gutters then it started raining heavily and couldn't get much out except water which when I lifted vac out of gutter fell out of vac end down onto wall.   Also I guess and electric vac in the rain isn't a great idea, it smoked for a second and something doesn't smell right.  Bought the vac off Lee Martin.   Would a 3000w vac just suck the rain water out from high gutters as well as gunk so I can carry on working?

Has your vac an ip rating ? All wet/dry vacs should be able to work in light rain

Yes a larger vac should suck all water 💦 and crud out of the gutter if like you say water was coming back out of the hose it just couldn’t handle that amount of liquid or you had a partial blockage in the hose or vac Inlet

If you insist on working in heavy rain get 110v machine so you don’t kill yourself

Sounds like there was a blockage or the vac was full. Is it the 1400w Karcher?

Working with 230 volt equipment in the rain will make you an ideal candidate for a Darwin Award which is usually bestowed posthumously.

I use the 1400w skyvac

And its get hammered on loads of jobs (gr8 bit of kit btw for a small machine)

Ran from Generator.

I jusrlt put a bucket upside down over extension connector that the vac plugs into.

Never ever had a problem.

Been using a 1400 watt thing with a material filter,  I was told to cut a hole one inch by one inch in the back of filter and now the suction is back.  I was told to get a foam filter instead of material one and cable tie it on.

I called another company who do gutter cleaning and they said use shopvac from b and q.   Don't waste your money on some overpriced one.  Shopvacs are great.   I need a wet and dry for other jobs as well.
