Title: If you LEASE please be aware. Read This !!!
Post by: Dazzler3370 on April 16, 2018, 10:04:34 pm
Gents Ive just handed a vehicle back to Vanarama after 4 years.

Ive been billed £58 for extra days hire. I was given incorrect date to return the van from them...!!!

£541 in damages

Billed £105 for only handing in one key, even though i handed over 2.  Ive got proof that I did.

Damages, dent to a door, wasn't there when I handed it over, and not on hand over sheet.

Stratches to internal drivers door, damage wasn't there when i handed it over. Ive got pictures to prove it.

Please gents dont let yourselves be ripped off by these companies.

Make sure you take pictures of every part of you van both inside and out, when you hand it over.

They have obviously damaged the van just so they can bill me. They have done it to the wrong person this time though, as im taking it up with a solicitor as its a fraudulent claim against me.

The popular car hire firms have been on TV a few times for ripping customers off who rented for a week or two, saying they returned the car not in the same condition as it was when they hired it. Wouldn't trust any of them. I have hired cars in the Uk in the past when living abroad but I wouldn't do it now unless it was a last resort if I really had to.

Surely they should do an appraisal of the van with you present when you’re handing it back?

Yes it was a contract hire.
And yes they do an inspection whilst you are present, however they also do another one when it's back at their depot. That's when the trouble starts.
They have blatantly scratched the inside of the door. Yet I've have pictures of it totally undamaged when I was handing it back.

Whenever ive rented cars they go round it with you and you both sign a check sheet to say it's all in order, there's no comeback.

Didn't you complete a handover sheet like this ?

If you did, laugh walk away and say I'll see you in court. They don't have a prayer.

If you didnt then oops they've been very naughty and you have been very naive. Should  have got it signed off on handover.

Yes I did have a full hand over, however they now also inform you that there is a more detailed inspection where the vehicle goes back to their depot. This is when they have purposely damaged the vehicle, so that they can bill me.
What I'm trying to warn people about my experience and that it's imperative that you take pictures of not only the outside of their vehicle  it the inside of door panels and interior.

Just a thought ... could it be (gasp) that they didn't scratch YOUR van themselves (that would be daft and sound unreasonable to accuse them of in court) but took pictures of ANOTHER van of the same year, model and colour that WAS damaged - as a fraud?

Its just the thought of having to be so so careful with it all the time , work vans are going to see a bit of action and wear and tear , but to me it seems like these companies are raising the bar higher and higher with the condition it has to come back in after 3 years of work , what do they expect , to me it seems they expect a pristine example back in .
That is why i would never do it anyway , 2 or 3 year old van with a good history is all i need , also custies hate seeing the doley window cleaner with a newer vehicle than them  ;)

I said it before. Leasing is a waste of time and money for the majority of us.

Its more affordable, thats the only plus point. And you can reduce your book assets which is advantageous, especially for larger businesses whom need to quickly expand and contract according to market conditions. (They win a big contract for 2 years)

The other advantage is that its vastly more profitable for the dealer, as they get the mug..sorry customer to use the vehicle and pay down the depreciation, with a small margin of profit, taking the risk off the dealer freeing  up more forecourt space, but keeping the vehicle on the stock list for sale again after 3 years. It benefits one person...them.

In order for this to be legal you must have signed or agreed for a further inspection to take place.

It's worth pointing out as well this was a contract hire which is much more strict.

Had you had a finance lease with a balloon then the condition of the vehicle is somewhat irrelevant aa it's the balloon.the finance company want not the van .

Leasing has a few advantages, even if you can afford 20k to spend on a van that's 20k tied up sitting in a depreciating asset that that you can't do anything with.

Let's say you spent 20k on that van and in 5 years it's worth 10. You've lost 10k meanwhile Imagine spending that 20k on marketing to increase your turnover and profit to more than cover your lease payments... Leasing wins in that scenario. It also keep it of the books as a liability with certain contracts.

Just because you don't own an assett at the end doesn't mean it's a bad idea. It depends on your circumstances and business needs.

IF  youve got proof there were no scratches or dents id take this all the way

start a campaign on facebook praps,  to find others whove been diddled the same [it wont be the 1st time]   then spend your weekends outside their HQ filming yourself holding a huge placard / banner and  get on film anyone else who happens to be there-post the diatribe online -  youre at the Hornets Nest  and youre poking it

youre not after a refund, oh no ,this has got your goat bigtime - you should be able to bring the company to its knees -and nothing less

All the windscreen replacement companies have just stopped leasing for this reason, the costs they were being charged at the end of the lease for the above reasons were astronomical i had a chip in the car screen fixed yesterday and he was talking about this exact thing. They now buy them kit  them out and sell them after 4 years,I think a lot of the leasing companies rely on this at the end of the lease for extra money,it won’t be long before it comes out on some BBC program about it being a scam.

My gut feel is that the vehicle market is taking a hammering on the back of either a slowing economy or an anti diesel drive by government  and councils or both.
If the return vehicle isn't worth its predicted value, then  they are going to find some way of recouping losses.

Its a repeat of what happened in 1999 when the 'Rip off Britian' campaign got into full swing and knocked thousands off the price of new vehicles. (A Citroen Xsara LX became a Forte with a £2000 price reduction. The mechanics had to go around each stock LX vehicle and change badges from LX to Forte. Any vehicle purchased by the finance houses before that lost a slice of value in the blink of an eye. It was the finances houses that lost out and boy, did they try every tactic in the book to make the customer pay on return vehicles.)

I'm not against leasing, but you need to be in control at the end of the lease. Try to get that balloon payment smaller by increasing your monthly rental and go for a personal lease purchase (PLP) that will allow you the own the vehicle once the final payment and transfer fee are paid.
Leasing is all about the new vehicle price, depreciation and the profit for the dealer/finance house.  How do they know how much a new Ford Courier is going to be valued at in 3 or 4 years time with 60,000 miles on the clock? They don't. They can only take an 'educated' guess on what the trend has been over the last couple of years and apply that. Its a gamble and when the finance house wins (the return vehicle is worth more than they projected) they are happy, but when its lower they aren't.

i still find it hard to believe a professional company like vanarama would blatantly scratch/damage a vehicle on purpose to get you to pay for it esp as you already signed a document on first inspection of the vehicle when you handed it back....

.....something doesnt add up here........ ???

on topic my brand new GOLF GTD arrived at 915 this morning.its got 24 miles on the clock! ;D ;D taking the missus out in it for dinner.. 8) :) :)

Ive just been quoted up on van i want - pre reg 67 plate

£222 pm month plus vat

£5999 plus vat balloon

total payable £22`776

These vans are going for £16995  plus vat, so thats £20`400 total  the interest on HP on a loan would work out more expensive than the lease. I know you dont own it but there are ways around it at the lease end. I think the figures are very competitive, you can always hand it back.

If it was soley for work i wouldnt want a new van, but im after a double cab so it will double as a family wagon for days out/holidays etc, we also go camping quite a bit and i have 4 kids at the weekends!

On the work front it will be made into a 2 man setup

Work hard play hard mate   ;)

20k sounds a lot but its not really over 5 years, i dont buy myself much outside of paying the bills so why not

Yeah but he’ll be the fastest guy through that drive through though!
I mean being a VW it probably will fail its next emissions test, and an hour later a GTI will get its big mac twice as fast; but at least Daz will be comfy whilst he kills the planet.

Once you have taken out the contract you'll deal with lex auto lease etc not Vanarma as they are just the broker. So after sales is crap and if you want to use them again good luck getting what you actually want as they don't give a fu*k and after they've messed you about and you put a complaint in, the manager won't bother his arse contacting you.
Lex also charged me for a key but I got it back as had the paper work.
