I hate it when folks ask about domestic prices but...
Garages and shops how do you price them as whenever I price shop windows they normally pull a face at me as if I'm about to rob there till.
Three large windows from the ground and door, probably fornightly inside and out. £???
Barber shop with one large window and a door. £???
-
However much you charge per hour divided by 60 minutes x by however long it will take you eg.
If I was on £30 an hour divided by 60 minutes = 50p a minute.
The job will take 10 minutes so £5

This is why i stay clear of commercial work.
I used to clean some very large houses that a private firm owned for kids in care, my wife worked their and I knew how much they got oer chikd and how much they spent on things. But it after a couple of years they were trying to cut cost here n there and enquiring about prices from other shiners. One got the contract for being ten pound cheaper!
I dont think commercial is worth it, i stay well clear now. Even from local stores like your saying. They expect to soend pittance on them and some suckers out there are happy to work for pittance

I used to do 30 or so total garages from central london all the way down to Portsmouth and Chichester. Was a long day 5am on the glass 11pm off glass, pricing would have got so complicated so i charged a standard £25 per store. Some only took 5 mins, some 20, it evened itself out over the round. Twas a good little earner, even if it did take a day or so of recovery.

Totally disagree with Nathan on the commercial front. Be bold with your pricing and you can make good money. You'll never be affected by the weather and it's regular work. We clean a large pub on a main road every Friday morning so my van is parked on the main road for two hours. Mobile billboard with masses of traffic passing by, you can't buy that kind of advertising. When and if I lose the contract, I won't take it personal.

I don't find this at all.some of my commercial jobs are my best hourly rates(£50-£60 an hour jobs).care homes and private offices....
I don't do shops or garages though.....

I didnt say its not good money, just that it can be cut throat.
As another for instance, how many are loosing out to national window cleaners

I have been full circle I do a lot of large commercial work for a well known organisation I did work for them for 9 years never had a problem then they decided to go with national contractors that were charging a third of what I was charging them : they had the contract for three years and the client was very unhappy with them , I now have the contracts back at an evan higher price it’s my best paying work : lovely big properties but always in the back of my mind I think I could loose it again if the senior management decide to alter things , just have to make hay whilst the sun shines I guess (http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1522014581_4A4CA791-CFC6-49CE-AC8A-6928883B6EB1.jpeg)(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1522014569_9281D67E-CE2A-49D2-9399-E1EA00C3863B.jpeg)

You need to open your eyes dear friend!
Can easily hit £500 plus doing commercial, not silly little retail shops though.
-
Well it's silly little retail shops that I'm asking about. If I can pick up a couple of local garages at a decent price then that'll at least be start.
-
Where are you based i sub out loads of retail, i may be able to help?
-
Outskirt of Glasgow... So a little way from Kent.

Again, im not saying you cant earn money on commercial. The job i did paid £400 for 2 half days a month. But when management want to save a couple of quid they look for cheaper quotes and they get them.
-
You can easily hit 500 a day commercial I agree, you can also loose 500 in an email and that’s a fact I know for sure it’s happened to me. Commercial and fickle people go together it only takes one of the employees to know a window cleaner and your down the road.
-
Best way to keep commercial jobs is to bung the person in charge if they seem that type of person some cash in hand every 6-12 months to keep the job,I’ve done it myself in the past it gave me confidence I wouldn’t lose the work and I never did.

You can lose 5K on residential. Both can be equally as fickle.

Mis-read that person and you might be up before The Beak.
-
I’d rather chance losing 5-10 domestics over 1 commercial thanks any day of the year,it happens in any commercial work building down to the cleaning, you have to look after people or they will get people who do it’s the way these things work in my humble experience. Are you telling me that if someone offers the maintenance manager an envelope with cash in it every so often he won’t look after them,if so your a bit green it’s happening all the time you scratch my back and all that.
-
Its much easier replacing residential work than commercial work

Yes but not day in day out per man! If you can then fair play.

8-4 we could do it every day but we work 9-3.30/4 so don’t hit that very often.

What a ridiculous answer. I could do a grand a day if I worked 24 hours a day. Trouble is I haven't got enough customers to do it 😂. FFS some of the comments on this forum 🙄

Oh and he said 'we'. Is that as in we as in more than one person or in we as in me but want to sound like there's more than me?
-
I done £180 in half a shift last week which I was chuffed with, I stopped at lunch and didn't bother going back out.
I got that garage although it was a bit of a pain doing it trad but quoting another tomorrow plus I'll chance my arm in a couple of other places so I better have a shave! I would like to pick up a few hundred quid of windows so need to suss out these shops and offices for pricing, no point doing it if there paying peanuts thought.

You can do very good work on both commercial and residential. There are pros and cons to both:
Residential:
+ relatively easy to get
+ customers are loyal
+ losing one or two doesn’t have a major impact
+ more flexible than some commercial
+ no compliance issues usually
- can be a pain to deal with (nutters)
- can be fussy about wet weather working
- more admin per £1 of work
- sensitive about who actually does the cleaning
Commercial:
+ Higher value so a good way to get a lot of work quickly
+ not much admin per £1 worked
+ not sensitive about who does the work
+ usually parking is not a problem
+ wet weather working not a problem
- losing one or two contracts can be a bigger impact on your turnover.
- not much loyalty, especially when staff and managers change
- more compliance faff
- harder to get than residential
You have to be careful that any one or two contracts don’t make up too much of your turnover, otherwise losing them could see you in dire straits.
(BTW I’m not talking about shops. I’ve never ever done, nor will I ever do, shops. Most want cleaning weekly which is no good for me at all)

Not ridiculous at all. Mick said you could do £500 a day on commercial and I said if my chaps worked 8-4.30 or 9-5 they’d do that every day. As it is they work until about 3.30 and leave the yard at 9. They are given £400 a day, which they achieve every day although that includes VAT. I have the work btw.
Interestingly one of my guys has requested overtime and my proposal is to add £30 to his daily pay to achieve £500 a day. Again including VAT. That’s why I commented. Also from past comments Mick puts in long days to achieve £500 a day.
Commercial isn’t the holy grail.

Yes you can easily do that kind of money on commercial I’ve got jobs Where I’m 150-200 up by 10 o’clock but they are not set in stone when it comes to keeping them,if I had a complete business with this kind of work I’d be stressed in the knowledge I may lose a lot of work at anytime. The economy plays a much much bigger role in the commercial sector, not half as important in the domestic one,you might get put back a month on houses but if a business closes your going with em.

I was asked for a backhander once. Turned him down. Never got the job. Can look in the mirror so hope I never get tempted in future. Not judging what you or anyone else does as we all have different ways of doing things.
-
It’s the way the world works I’m afraid of you think different you are mistaken,I do a big place she’s divorced him now but I said to her one day how come when any land comes up for sale your ex always gets in there first for development, she simply looked at me and said as I’ve known her for years you have to look after the right people financially or you’ll never get started.

This is on the assumption then of two man bands or perhaps teams.
What about the one man machines
-
Well i am a one man machine. And when im working i usually get through £300 a day at least. Sometimes its more. 3 and 2 thrd days a week.
But i am pushing for an 80k turnover in a 15 month period so i can employ someone full time to free up other interests.
