Hi like many of you my my 20inch pre filters were cracked by frost PF couldn’t deliver before Monday, could I cut out pre filters and go through my twin RO then twin di or would it knacker the RO’s
-
No carbon filter will wreck the ro within hours once chorine gets into the membrane it’s the end on the line
Darran

What about if I filled one the di vessels with salt before RO would that work just for two 600l tank fulls

No , salt does not remove chlorine.

I've no idea as to if your tap tds is too high but could you get by with just running tap water through di ? ( if you've enough resin of course ) or even glue the cracked housing and wrap tightly with a roll or two of self amalgamating tape just to limp by ? .......... no idea if that would work ( or even possible or what part cracked ) but if you cannot wait until Monday what do you have lose but a few quid ?

Iv often wondered how bad chlorine is on an RO, I very rarely change pre filters and so far it hasn't effected the membrane,
not sure if its to do with carbon filters lasting longer than the recommended usage or that they're just not needed, sediment would shorten the membrane lifespan though, personally I wouldn't risk it especially if its a fairly new membrane.
-
I wondered that . I only use a 20 inch carbon filter (no sediment) before my triple membrane ro-man 300gpd RO. Usually I wait longer than recommended before changing pre-filter, but the membranes last a long time.
Only changed them twice in about 8 years and that was due to frost damage. I do use a water softener though which must help prolong their life.

Thanks guys local lad offered me some pure, so hopefully sorted

As others have said, don't do it. I madean error when I first started with WFPand ended up wrecking membranes. It didn't take long either.
If you need to produce water, consider resin only as a short-term stopgap.

... and if Brodex offer their systems without carbon block filters then you know they want to sell more membranes.

My prefilters and housings cracked too, i have a new membrane and prefilters and housing that have all been delivered(ordered Membrane as had old 1 for 3 years) am just using the 4040 RO on its own without any filters and have done now for 6 days making 2000 litres of pure every day wher the old housings cracked. TDS from RO was at 15 and is still at 15 from 360.Im going to just run the RO untill it dies or creeps up much more(if it dies) as so far it hasnt shown that using the prefilters Makes much difference.
Knowing my luck ill be down the lockup in the morning and water will be coming out at 100ppm, i hope not though.
