You won’t regret it! I’ve been using Xtremes for 2 1/2 years and they are the bees knees.

I could never go back to SLX poles now, no way, you’ll love it, just don’t bang it about too much (having said that I’ve dropped mine twice and it’s never broken, I also shut windows with it, but you need to use them like a snooker que and not let them bend when shutting the windows)

Thanks mate a fair few people have said that going from slx to xtreme, I believe the v3 are much more solid then the last two versions now and I wasn’t interested in getting one until gardiner brought out a 22 version as I’m not into the lengths of the 25!
I’m fairly kind with my poles so hopefully it will last at least a year or so before I renew, like to keep poles fresh.

The Xtreme is very good but you can't throw it around like an slx.
I've broken 3 sections of mine over the years (all my fault). Don't drop it, don't lean it up against a wall and don't tread on it.
If you get grit in it, clean it out.
PS
Get some Extreme brushes and you'll frickin love it!  ;D

Anyone else here use external pole hose? - it helps reduce grit getting inside the pole and wearing it down.

I think Tosh does.

I bought an extreme 47 a few years back - the "stepped" version but always used the top four sections of my SLX35 (so an "SLX20") as my everyday pole.

This time last year I bought the version 3 (stepless) extreme which I again run as a 4 section "Extreme 20" - it is almost as light as an extreme18 and rather lighter than the 22 (which is five slightly shorter sections).

I love it and I think it probably makes me money in as much as I am not as fatigued and can last longer (pun intended).

When you first get it make sure the clamps are as loose as they can be with still gripping the pole and not letting it spin, over time if you have to tighten the clamps you’ll have a lot more play with them as the pole wears. Every 6 months or so go over the whole pole clamps and all with a clear lacquer paint this will return the pole to its original glory and also strengthen it and allow it to glide better, they are by far the best poles the trouble is any other pole will feel heavy compared so be prepared to reinvest in the future. If you look after them they last years I’ve had my current couple for over a couple of years,if you must shut windows with it turn it upside down and use the base of the pole to do it.

ive gone back to the SLX 25 (and been using it for nearly a year now) after a few years using xtreme poles....i snapped 3 sections in quick succession on 2 different xtreme poles.just in normal use,not shutting windows or dropping them and thought enough is enough....

ive just got used to it now......no aches and pains,no strain whatsoever.....

i have packed on a fair bit of muscle though (esp over the last year of weight training) so that probably helps.....

Thanks guys, will bear those tips in mind.
Dazmond when you snapped those extreme poles was they the v3 version pole, I’ve read the v1 and v2 was like glass but v3 feels almost like an slx from what a mate tells me of his?

I bought a 18Ft Xtreme last year to work on standard 2 storey houses, as i have a shoulder problem, i absolutely love it,
working with it is a lot easier because of the weight difference, i did leave it leaning against a first floor window whilst taking
a phone call, and the wind blew it over snapping the top section, i replaced the section but am a lot more careful now where
 i leave it.

the v3 is an improvement but its still not as strong as an SLX...yes i snapped one section in normal use....

if you have shoulder problems or other injuries then an xtreme will defo help(even if the pole only lasts a year itll be worth it)

Hi Alan, yes the Xtreme has made it easier working, with less strain on my shoulders & arms, my other pole is an
SLX 25 which i only use now to reach windows too high for the  Extreme,  I had an MRI on my shoulder last year, which
showed up inflammation of the Tendon & Muscle due to wear & tear, so awaiting an appointment to see a consultant.

Thanks Larry hope all goes well for you. I think my poles are going to be upgraded to extremes and power up hose reels as I'm looking to making the work as easy as possible from here on in as not getting any younger and don't intend to give up the tools completely for a long time yet  ;D

I have had mine one year now and in the second week I had it similar happened to me except I caught my foot in the pole hose and it forcefully hit the sharp edge of a garden wall. The top was leaning against a first floor window and the top section was extended by about 6".

It snapped and I lost the top 3" - so an easy fix but it is now an extreme "19 and three quarters" - not a "20"  ;D

Since then it has been fine - including lightly shutting windows with it. It really is a gem.

As an aside for anyone with shoulder problems etc...

When I had elbow problems, I did all kinds of stuff to improve my working day and one of the things I did was,
to use pole hose on my main reel. I use about 60m of Gardiners reinforced pole hose on my reel (my reel is Claber) and it made such a difference to my aches and pains. Not just reeling in, but pulling it around houses.

The first hose on my reel is about 40m of minibore and then I added the 60m of pole hose onto it. I've used this for about 5 years with no loss in pressure and no real problems.

Having said that, the pole hose has now swolen, so I am going to order the same Gardiners reinforced pole hose again and try to put the full 100m on the reel. Hopefully there will be no back pressure. I know Gardiners don't recommend their pole hose for this type of use, but it's saved my elbows and worked an absolute treat.

I use a full 100 m of G's green pu pole hose on a van mounted reel with a shurflo pump for same reason and its even lighter, won't swell or split either.

That's very interesting, I bought some green to use on my pole (P&F mentioned it).
Does it behave itself though at 100m?
I get very few kinks or problems with the reinforced.
The reinforced is very good and feels like 'proper' hose, only lighter.
I am in two minds which one to get. Should I get the green?

Its going to be subjective Robbo.
Sometimes its so light it doesn't lay entirely flat especially in these colder months. I do lay it across roads and pavements but you do need to keep an eye on it. Plus side  though is how easy and light it is to walk to furthest point with, without it giving much resistance or weighing you down - same goes for reeling in. It just doesn't seem to wear out at all

I absolutely love the green pu hose, bought 30metres to try it and honestly still on the same section I originally put on over a year ago with the rest waiting to replace it, kinked and curled at first but then broke it in plus I’m hoseless so think that helps a lot!
Would be interested in trying 100metres though instead of pole hose

I’ve always found the gardeners green hose to coil horrendously? You guys that are using it, did it just eventually straighten out? I find in cold weather it’s just far too coiled when pulled out.

I first put it on my reel maybe 8 months ago so mid summer. Yes it was a bit awkward at first but warmer weather certainly helped it to lose its coil memory.

Well pole came today a day late, can’t wait to work with it tomorrow but had a quick clean on my windows and definitely noticeable lightness.
But piffed off though gardiner sent me the wrong pencil jets I ordered extra and I didn’t even get a snood I really hoped they’d throw in >:( :D
Didn’t even get a pen on a £550 order but put an order in for £160 a few weeks ago and got the crumby key ring🙄😂

Yes, me; I wouldn't use anything else.  You need a hose that 'nips' easily to cut the water flow.  I think we're currently using Gardiner's hot water pole hose.

There's probably a knack to it, but we've been working like this for about ten years now, so it's ingrained.

My reply.

Yes it does coil horrendously at first. I find that using immersion water (even if only at 20 degrees) in the winter helps enormously as it can fold over and cut flow if cold.

I'm going back to Gardiners all season hose. After 5 months or so of trying to get on with the green PU stuff I've come to the conclusion that it's terrible stuff!! ;D Waste more time in a day trying to manage , untangle, de-kink this stuff that it's not worth the hassle. It only serves one purpose better than all season hose and that is it being slightly better at activating a univalve- otherwise it's horrible stuff! ;D
