I am just concerned that if I go to work today I will be creating a hazardous situation on peoples walkways, even if I cloth the doors there will still be water that could freeze on other parts of the path's. Apparently hot water freezes quicker than cold and my tank has been hooked up to the immersion for two nights on the run.I never get behind schedule and it bothers me that I am.
Should I just sack it all off till next week?
What's every one else's plans?

having rest of week off , -5 here snow on floor, not worth risking van

All week off , from now until Friday it’s supposed to be minus 3/4/5 all day and night

So we ended up with some snow after all. Its been 8yrs since weve had some.
So is it only me contemplating working then!? Hot water in van and transfer to trolley. No trip hazards
-
I hooked up my immersion yesterday so i really want to try it out
but i think its all a bit daft, its been snowing for a few hours here and the roads look quite bad, plus its supposed to be -1 max all day.
I hate having weeks off like this though, prefer to have a week off and actually plan to do something rather than sat around looking at the weather.
-
We're off to the pics to see Black Panther (Wor Lass's choice), then it's a cheat meal (we do the low carb thing), and then this afternoon we're off to the gym.
We're going to spend the day playing. ;D
-
at the end of the day go out and work if you want but this very cold weather isnt gonna last longer than the rest of the week and the weekend.....
we ll all have forgotten about it by next week...
if i wanted i could probably go out and do a couple of hours here but ive made my mind up to have the rest of the week off, rescheduled my work and even printed invoices/downloaded worksheets to my phone ready for monday... :)
one of my neighbours woke me up at 1230am banging on my door shouting "your van sounds like its gonna blow up!" ::)roll ;D
it was the frost stat on my heater kicking in....its coming on 4 or 5 times a day at the moment in this freezing weather! ;D

Im thinking if and its a big IF, ut lets say the sun is out tomorrow and its about 1 degrees and not snowing. Would you work? Or like i did in 2010 with the bad snow, you wait n wait and then in the end you have no choice but to go out anyway. So might as well go out if that's gonna be the out come.
For me, december n Jan was awful as we had that cold bug in family and i had about 4weeks off. It really mucked up my rounds. If i get finished in next couple of days then I have it back on track for March. If not it will be another month if rescheduling and working my behind off to ensure its back on track for April and this is whats motivating me to get out and use the trolley

How does somebody who only does 15 hours a week fall behind ?

cut yourself some slack mate...im like you and keep to my work schedule most of the time but you should factor in that these bad weather events happen from time to time, just as illness/injury can keep you off work so can the weather on rare occasions...
my advice would be to reschedule your work(do it today)for next week and relax.....get around to doing the DIY jobs you normally dont have time to do...or spend a bit more time with family/friends...etc,etc...
im gonna sort my wardrobe out and chuck out some old clothes, squeeze in another workout in the gym to go along with my normal 3 workouts a week, get my hair cut and take the dog on a few longer walks this week.... ;D

I had exactly same thoughts as you mate. I hate getting behind but im just not feeling the vibes with this weather and customers defo dont like it.
Considering sacking off till next week then starting march ready to go full steam ahead. Its a pain as february hasnt been a good month for us but i guess you win some you lose some.
At this point im really thinking of binning the week off. First time ever for me due to weather lol.

ive never had 4 weeks off because of a cold mate......in fact ive never had 4 weeks off in 25 years of window cleaning!the closest i came was 3 and a half weeks off with a torn ankle ligament a few years ago...

Not that simple daz when youve got a family mate.
We all came down very ill, i was well within a couple of days but the wife n kids werent. Since there'll young, (1,3 n oldest) and home schooled if the wife aint well I need to stay n watch em. So the time buikt up.
I had a scare of an heart attack last wknd, but doctors said it was a torn pectoral muscle. This was on saturday and monday i was back to work..... All be it nice n steady.
Thats why im not letting a bit of snow stop me. Its crazy, a little bit of snow can bring people to a halt!
Haha tho my van didnt nearly start and wherei was heading a customer has texted saying most people are snowed in and itsnot safe on street...... Its rural. So im just doing what i can today but its better than giving in

Iv decorated the whole house, changed all the skirtings and doors, retiled the main bathroom and more this winter so by not having to pay somebody to do this work I have saved what Iv lost in earnings, might pull some of it back with add ons in the better months or I might not.
That said I wouldnt want a winter like this one every year, 2010 was bad but it was quick this one seems to be lasting forever.
-
You are in a weather dependant line if work, charge enough to cover the bad days!👍
-
Blue skies here in woking, suns hot already melting the little snow we had.

I sent the txt out at 8am, re-scheduled till next week due to health and safety concerns.
I did promise myself that this year as I'm in a decent position there will be no stress over work and it'll get done when it gets done, so holiday till Monday.
Great thing is though the kids schools are open today so we get the house to ourselves.

exactly....the last time i had forced time off work due to bad weather was 2010(nearly 3 weeks off!).i was ok financially but 8 years later im in a much better position. i could easily go 6 months off work and not have to worry about bills...hopefully itll never happen though....

I’ve sacked the week off it’s pointless even if you can get about on the main roads the side roads are covered in snow, the temperature won’t be getting above -1 -2 during the day so it won’t be going anywhere till at least the weekend. In the south tomorrow and Friday are set to be the worst 2 days of snow all week, people don’t want to be seeing the WCleaner within the next 4-5 days me thinks.
-
I've decided not to work until Monday now. I'm cold water and this is the first time in 12 years that my tank has even frozen ! I managed a few that were booked in yesterday with a backpack but was seriously slow going given icy roads ( even with a 4x4 ) and pavements . It was not productive at all. This is exceptional UK weather and will be over and forgotten about in no time.
-
So it's officially a national window cleaner's holiday!
Happy days.

ime going to be a wussy house husband this week. ;)

I opened up the centre of my ribcage just in front of the heart a couple of years ago in the gym doing weighted dips, muscloskeletosis they called it.
Before I knew what it was I also thought I was about to snuff it. Funny now but at the time it was scary. Was under a lot of pressure at the time and very stressed.
I think your roughly the same age as me Nathan, hard to admit be were not kids any more and have to be more careful with our bodies.
Hope it heals up quick for you mate.

Lol yes it is very good in the snow we were in Scotland last Christmas and it went through 12 inches of snow up hills easily I was very surprised , boot is to small for barrels of water though 😂😂😂😂😂
-
We're working as usual. I have 2 guys on contracts and am rammed all with clients th next 2 weeks so nothing else for it.
We're on target to get 3/4 of the day completed, but a couple of gutter clears booked in will need to wait for the water to freeze so will rebook them for next week.
if i was working on my own i guess i'd feel differently though to be fair! :D

Aye my wife has one, I opted to use her car as I had to go out for a message today to what is probably the hilliest part of town, car at the back of me had to give up on a steep hill, but I managed no problem.

ime going to be a wussy house husband this week. ;)
ive been a beast in the gym and had 2 great workouts yesterday and today, same again tomorrow and friday, then weekend off to chill.....sometimes its great to be a window cleaner....imagine having to force yourself to go to work? (working for someone else)itd be hell on earth.... ;D
-
According to the car thermometer it was minus 3 at 9 am and although I have an immersion I decided to "sack" today - and likely the rest of the week off. I dropped "our littlist" to work and went scavenging.
Went down by the riverbank and picked up some lovely nicely seasoned fallen dead tree branches between 4 and 8 inches thick and sawed them into four foot lengths and half filled the back of the van.
Spent a happy couple of hours under the car port sawing and log splitting for the wood burner.
All seasoned - all ready to use - and "free".
Lovely!
-
A bit of snow on the ground didn't stop me working today. Struggled near the end of the day as the plastic goose neck was freezing up so I couldn't change the angle of the brush and the ground was starting to get a bit slippy underfoot. Won't be working tomorrow as they predict 10-20cm of snow for us and 50cm plus up on the moors near me so calling it a week now. Three days in the snow and freezing temperature so got enough work in for this week and will have a break until Monday.

We've just had a weekend away that we couldn't really afford so I was a bit mithered about the impending 'beast'.
I also had funeral today so that'd be more time off. Anyway outside the crem, I got talking to a bloke that I used to work with and he was telling me about the stroke that he'd had. We then got talking about another lad that worked with us that'd died suddenly in his early forties.
It cheered me up in a way ;D. There's three fellas that would have loved the chance to be snowed off.
Beast, my arse (no, not like that); life's too short.
So on that note I'm going to start on some of my leftover Christmas drink.
If I can get anything done tomorrow, great; if not I'll attempt some DIY with a hangover.
Cheers.

To hell with it. Its forecast 11 degrees next week.
-
Best to just make a decision and stick with it... I took lad to school this morning and made decision to reschedule next week and hit March hard... decisuon made, enjoy the break
-
I worked in the morning and then home with kids. This is the first time my three have seen a good covering of snow.

Or you can spend the day texting your customers explaining that you won't be around after all on the 1st of March as previously arranged, and the ones who were meant to unlock gates on the 2nd can you now open the gates on the 5th, and the ones who were meant to open gates on the 5th................................................... ;D ;D

But it's game over here, worse than it's been all week, -4, snowing at 40mph winds expected.
Going to have to get some serious graft done starting from next week, I might have to work later than 3pm for a while
-
I bought some more trad gear the other day, so I am going to stay home and have a play. ;D
-
Managed to get todays work finished.
Although the snow really has started to come down now and settle tonight. I have my bills ready for tomorrow but if the schools are closed, the wife and i are taking the kids out in the snow.
To hell with it. Its forecast 11 degrees next week.
Or you can spend the day texting your customers explaining that you won't be around after all on the 1st of March as previously arranged, and the ones who were meant to unlock gates on the 2nd can you now open the gates on the 5th, and the ones who were meant to open gates on the 5th................................................... ;D ;D

We were supposed to do a whole weeks of gutter cleaning this week, needless to say not done any.
March is going to be ridiculously busy now, but I prefer it that way. Fortunately December and January were brilliant months so a week off not too bad.
And booked a holiday yesterday for April - sick of not having any sun for ages! This winter really seems to have dragged on this time.

Everyone agrees that this winter has dragged on.
