This guy has done some very good informative videos for beginners and the people that have been in the game a long time, but he has just done one on YouTube about customer profiling that would ruin a good business that’s been trading for years if you were to all of a sudden adopt his ideas. I challenge anyone to try and start building a WCleaning business using his 5 step method.
-
Gotta link?
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxDJ9klFumo
-
He does make sense, but I don't have a problem doing insides or the odd bungalow trad.
The rest is just common sense and we all do it subconsciously anyhow, checking the potentials out.
-
I think he is bang on providing you can find enough customers he's taken all the stress out of the job since 1st of Jan I'm only taking on customers who sign up to gocardless
-
He has got very good business principals. We should all try to achieve these in the long run.Bet he never has bad payers and the rest. A window cleaner whiff a brain.
-
thats the beauty of running your own business...you can do what you like...
i dont care whether a customers pays cash/cheque/bacs or standing order.it makes no difference to me.as long as i get paid in the end.also i dont care about customers personalities,if their the moaning type i try and cheer them up!also access isnt a problem if i can text them the night before to leave a gate unlocked etc(or even factor this in your pricing).as for insides i agree with him there..i cant be bothered (although i do have some trad work thats unsuitable for wfp).
i even have the odd customer who have pretty scruffy overgrown gardens but they still pay me and are good as gold....so i keep going back.... ;D
-
Like I say he’s got some good ideas but he comes across as aggressive at times in his attitude if I adopted his methods I’d be doing myself out of a lot of money over the course of the year,I have a lot of easy profitable inside and out work and some jobs that have the odd window that require a 35-40ft pole that if I didn’t clean they’d been less than happy,a lot of reasons why people want a WFP WCleaner is because we can reach 3-4th floor windows.
-
I have a few utter arseholes that I do that are quiet happy to pay me 100 odd quid every 6-8 weeks,it’s all part of the job smile and crack on I must admit the upper 90% of mine are spot on but no one can say they have a smile and coffee every job they go to I’m sure,so on and so forth lol.
-
I have some I have to text but I only do it because it’s worth the hassle of the text,IMO if you don’t do insides or don’t offer it your only half a WCleaner. Anyone I’ve ever had with me must be able to blade to a high standard if they didn’t I would insist they learnt how to,it helps to know what a clean window looks like before you walk away eh.
-
Agree with most of you guys, it's just using common sense really and a little bit of that is gutt feeling as well.
I've had lovely customers who seemed to be OCD for many years but the last couple of years they have started to let things slip compared to their normal standards. Yet they still have a friendly chat with me and still pay straight away.
However I did pull up to quote a house in a nice area, but their garden gate was broken and the rear garden was a real mess behind a high fence that the public couldn't see. The back door looks like it's been kicked in a couple of times. So a speedy retreat that time.
-
I've said before I think he's arrogant.
However he goes out of he's way to help others, providing it's his way 😁
The tools bit made me smile, only as high as a 25. really? Because he doesn't want to buy 3 one for each van. (Just buy 1 then for any higher work and allocate it to 1 van)
Seems to work for him.
-
Access ain't a real concern as I offer a text service night before. All my clients who use it know that if the gate is still locked I will only clean what I have access to and they will be billed 75% of full charge
-
To be honest i think hes spot on.
Its exactly the way i run my round, i dont do terraced, i dont do dog muck, i dont do anything to do with ladders, i dont do insides.
i only have a 27ft pole and no interest in buying a bigger one, its not needed. i dont do trad work either.
I do what i want to do on my terms, it doesnt matter what your terms are just that you have some.
-
i dont do dog muck,
You don't?
You'll be telling us you don't cock your leg up and wee on lamposts next.

That's right.
It's always good to have more terms than customers.
"We are Millwall, we are Millwall....."

Derail? A bit dramatic that.
It's easy enough to get back on topic, isn't it? Or has it gone forever? :o
-
I don’t do terrace but that’s mainly because of the area and type of work I have,as for dog muck I can’t see how you can erase that one dogs gotta poop the dog will poop most people will pick it up. He just makes it sound like if you want me I will tell you what we do and you e got to abide by all my terms and conditions,a hell of a lot of people will laugh him down the road. I can’t believe he would would turn top work down over a customer not allowing all 5 conditions he’s seriously narrowing his market and he doesn’t target high end work either in his other videos he says his minimum is £12,he used to do all the other add on work and if it was priced and he was as busy as he said he was he’d still be doing it I would think the truth is more like people have wised up to paying £400 odd quid for a standard 4 bed gutter clear out and outside of gutter wash.
-
I like this guys videos, i've watched nearly all of them over time.
The fine detail in his videos doesn't suit everyone, but in principal, I think he has some excellent points to make.
I particularly like the one of how he started.
-
It sounds more like he’s gone down the route of a lot of firms with a few vans out on the road it’s a case of taking almost anything on but on his frequency cleaning and payment terms, this is probably almost the only way it will allow you to get round and get enough revenue in to pay the wages. His terms in the real day to day WCleaning world will not work especially on high end domestics,I tell them what I want but a hell of a lot of them will tell me when I’m allowed to come and clean them,I would be a fool to argue with them as 1 job can be over a normal days take. Cutting my nose off to spite my face I don’t think I want to go do n that road,or never look a gift horse in the mouth as my old man used to say you have to give a little to take a little in this job.

Adam g.griffin is a legend of CIU and I reckon he s lost his way...he should of been a comedian rather than a window cleaner...he s a top bloke.....and a funny one at that....chill.... ;D
-
I’ve watched all his videos and they are interesting and he’s right on a lot of subjects although there is no give and take in his business it’s my way or nothing,in reality no business runs efficiently with that attitude sometimes you just need to let people think they’ve got the upper hand even when you know they haven’t.

I have a lot of very good customers that are also nice people if I adopted his methods I reckon I could kiss goodbye to most of em if I’m honest,I’d be coming across like a cross between Hitler and a pittbull.
-
He likes saying so on and so forth doesn’t he 😂 blimey and if they don’t like it there not the customer for you lol. He says in one video he likes to get the window completely spotless on the first visit although it is not going to guarantee you’ll keep the job some will still thanks but we will give you a call when we want you again. He refers to it as polishing a terd everytime although saying that I don’t mind polishing the odd terd of a house they are actually easier to clean and the monies still the same after I’ve cleaned that terd.
-
I don't know NWH
You need rules in your business other wise you would be running round doing all sorta being pulled this way and that.
Dog muck- if they don't clean it up I don't clean. I don't think that's too much to ask.
Insides- I don't want to do em, I don't like moving all crap off sills, I find it slow and tedious. I just don't wanna do it.
Access- don't climb anything and If theres no access you can't do it.
25ft pole - similar to what I have, only ever come across 3-4 jobs residential that I couldn't reach so no Interest is spending 500 plus quid when I can just get another custy.
I don't have any telling me what day I can come, but I don't do any high end (there's not much high end here)
I think it's up to each of us to decide how we run our business so there's no right or wrong, we can all do as we like.

Thanks for your kind words, Daz.
And as you say, 'chill'. It doesn't have to be so serious all the time.
If someone is prepared to type 'I don't do dog muck' and not be prepared to have the mick taken then that's their problem.
Maybe I'm being childish but I also think Adam needs to lighten up.
-
I agree it’s up to you if I do insides the only thing I ask is for them to clear sills or the window area they are happy to do that, for insides I charge at least the same and a half but usually double the outside price. On a lot of work I go when the owners are away so it has to be arranged with the housekeepers etc it’s the only the way it can work for the big inside stuff, the majority of it like that that’s big and outside only I have gate entry numbers if they are out so that works well but they won’t just give out there gate entry codes willy nilly,i would be a fool to turn away insides and other work because of having to make arrangements to do them, sometimes insides can be aranged and done on an awful day when outsides are impossible really on that kind of work.

Why though, you know what I meant, I don't clean In gardens full of dog muck....
Don't see why it needed to be taken the mick out of, whats wrong with that..what you said wasn't funny, just didn't get it. Just sounded like a wind up for no reason.

Fair enough, we all work differently.
Oddly I've only ever been asked if I can do insides on half a dozen occasions. I just don't get the asked, I never advertise it either. Think I've done it twice when I first started and just didn't like having to take my shoes off, be carefull with the water, watch I don't break anything and generally just feel a bit awkward...I like to just pull up, hose out, clean and go. I don't like faff and things that slow me down, I just like getting into the rythm of banging out house after house I find that the most profitable way of working.

You taking it as a wind up says a lot, my friend.
It's a forum. People are going to say stuff you might not like but you need to get used to it.
Anyway, let's forget this incident.
Till next time,......

I think some of his videos are really good. I've learned a few things in the fine details which he does that i adopted lately and it did help a little. Some things he does may seem a bit over the top, but id rather that than somebody who has a sloppy approach and doesnt try. Personally i need growth more than i can afford to be picky to only have gocardless customers on the books. Aslong as i get paid in the end i also dont care how they pay. Aslong as my hourly rate is good and i get paid, im not bothered always if access isnt perfect or a bit messy or slightly moany customers. Just get on with it really. If a job is a pain though, i'll just up the price or get rid if need be.

Adam that’s fair enough,
But my wages rocketed when I investing in a 47ft Xtreme pole. I then won 2 contracts for 2 large apartment blocks, it’s hard work, but well worth it!
Don’t limit yourself, if the opportunity comes, and you get a large/high regular job to clean, invest in the equipment, it’ll only benefit you and your wallet in the long term.
It took me a 7-8 years of window cleaning to get some of the commercial jobs I now have, but my word are they worth it. The higher the better as there’s less competition (people don’t have the high reach poles to even bother quoting)
Oh and on green pro clean, he’s got some good advice, but as another guy said, he is arrogant, and generally when people have channels like his, it’s for there own self worth. It gives them something to do, and makes them feel good ;D

I don't know why people are put off and say its limiting to only offer GoCardless? Any new work I get, have to sign up for direct debit payments. So far I've not lost a single enquiry by saying they can only pay by direct debit.

I'm not sure the spiders will be too happy about this ;D

Haha, no ;D
I messaged back saying that she would be pleased to know that I use hot water as well. She was very pleased to hear that the spiders will be warm ;D ;D

I make the guy 100% spot on. I didn't think he was arrogant or aggresive at all, just very focused and clear on what he wants, what he will do and what he expects.
The things he won't be doing is posting stupid photographs of messy gardens that he doesn't like doing and complaining about customers who owe him for a few months clean. I'd say he has it right.

I totally agree
-
I think we all get to that stage where we are refining our work- any new work , don’t put up with dog crap etc . But I wouldn’t say paying by bacs is difficult unless you’ve msde it difficult for yourself by not telling the customer to put their address as reference. As for personalities of the customers- I couldn’t really care as I don’t really stop for a chat that much and the majority of my customers are at work when I arrive. But , with those principles I bet his round is awesome
-
If he has it right it has it right becaus if the type of work he cleans, certain stuff it would be impossible to carry on like this dictating schedules the height he goes to etc. Ok he wants to work like that but forget getting the really good paying domestics you have to bend over every now and again and take one for the team.
-
Far too many window cleaner are intimidated by there customers. Why should high-end customers be any different to anyone else they all pay the same for their service. We don`t need to go cap in hand to any customer.Treat them politely and expect the same in return. A customer only run over you when they sense you are subservient.
-
I like the principle that Green Pro thinks about and sets out his stall and is happy with how it works for him.
I might not set my stall out exactly the same but if you don't have a few "red lines" then customers will be the tail that wags the dog.
