I took four months off in January 2006 to go travelling around the world with my eldest son. I told my customers but also stated that they could get another wc to clean their windows whilst I was away or even permanently! I only lost about five customers due to the winter here that year being cold etc. These days I take a week though two weeks is possible if its done at end of month and beginning of next!

Around where I work people tend to get a bit antsy if you’re late by a couple of weeks let alone a month. I’ve recently had several customers of another window cleaner near me make enquiries regarding my services due to their windie being a month late. In all fairness to him I asked them to give it another few weeks before asking me again as he could be ill or on holiday. As it happens he does seem to have jacked it in. But it surprised me how quick his customers were to dump him for someone else.
So for me a break of about ten days is the limit and the occasional long weekend

Holiday is simply a frame of mind

3 weeks in Summer every year for last 10 years....self catering in the Canaries usually Tenerife......apartments have everything including washing machine which is ideal as it saves on how many clothes you need.
This year though only 2 weeks in Sorrento for a change.
Ambleside for a week in 2 weeks time though.

Met a wc in Bradford a couple of years ago and he said he did 6 weeks in Caribbean for his honeymoon and hardly anybody missed him.

Booked two weeks in Italy for may this year.
That will be my longest, normally go for a week.
I'm two weeks behind with work and have been since December and only 1-2 have said owt, so I'm not worried.
-
I have 3 weeks in Corfu every August.
Also have 3 or 4 long weekends away with the family and another 1 or 2 just me and the wife.
-
I will be taking 16 days off in July for Florida, 8 days in October for Cyprus and will spend quite a few long weekends at my caravan.
-
As long as I want can varie from a week to a month 😂😂😂😂 depends where Ime going

I usually take 2 weeks off in January and pop down the Canaries, custies don't really miss me. Then some long weekends in Bath (booked up 4 days over Easter holidays). That's it for me.
Mrs Window Cleaner has another holiday in October (Canaries or Majorca) with her son. He is Autistic, (good lad) so they have some 'bonding' time together and I get a week on my own 'Yey'! ;D

Do you do any manual work these day?

Did 2 weeks in China last year and that was the longest I’ve had away. Work was fine. I just ran two weeks behind schedule for a month and then it was all caught back up.
I find that in general, customers on a monthly service (not 4 weekly) don’t really know when to expect you anyway, they just know once a month, and are just happy to have someone regular.
You’ll always get the occasional oldie that puts in her calendar when your due next mind you.
To be honest, 7 days away for me is normally enough. I’m looking to get back into a routine after that.
I also do long weekends scattered through the year when I feel like a need a break. A Thursday to Sunday break really lifts the spirits sometimes.

Always take a month off in January. Got back from Thailand on the 30th and boy am i finding it hard to get going this year for some reason.
Then its just a week here and there at my little house in Nerja in Spain. Never bother taking holidays in the main summer months as its when you make all yer money :)
