Posted a quick vid on Facebook in reply to questions and noticed a fair bit of flex in the pole around three / four sections down. Is that the norm for an slx. (It's at the start of the clip on the side ways action.)

Thats a 22 with 6+7 clx yes ?
I have an 18 with 5+6 clx , it does pretty much the same i think

After the slx 6 extension went a miss I bought the clx ext and then another, but its the slx part I thought wasn't looking right so thought I better ask. It's nearly five years old now.

I suppose they must loosen up so to speak , fibres may break down causing them to be less rigid over time ?
Alex will know for sure , nothing lasts forever .
See if you were on FB pages you would be slating Alex and his bendy poles by now ;D ;D ;D

Mind you , it could also be the fact that we have in effect built a hybrid , its bound to perform different , like i say , mine does it and the slx is about a year now .
Its our own faults for penny pinching ;D

I also have a hybrid slx/clx and slx 22 with a clx extension
My slx is 3 years old now and it's starting to show it. 2 clamps are spinning and there's noticeable wear to some section. About 6 inch of number 3 section snapped off and it does feel a bit bendy in the middle but I think it's because I lost the red section on number 3 so needs to be clamped further up.
Despite that it's held together with laquer and tape it's a true warrior.
I think I'll get another this year

Adam, did you not buy a phoenix pole in November or was that for someone else to use. If so how's it holding up.

Its physics, the lest rigid part will always be in the middle. Try not extending each section more than 60% so that there is a third inside each pole. This will straighten your pole more.

Yes, it was only the hybrid one not carbon.
Not used it yet but seems ok.

A little bit about the gardiners exteme at height
On the extreme 47 pole there is very little flex if any, u can add the hm single extensions taking it up to 72 pole ( I only have 5 singles ) and still there is very little flex and great to work with.
Add the triple extension taking it to 85 ft and the flex is unreal, the pole becomes a bow making it hard to work with.
I think this is down to the weight in the triple tho.
working with the singles at height is great and in hindsight would not of mixed them with the triple.
But add the triple alone to the pole give u a 60 ft pole with very little flex and still easy to control, it just becomes an issue when mixing singles with the triple
