Hi Daz.

Oops  :(

Is there a formula I remember reading,

To do with a water temp shouldn't exceed air temp by x amount.

I realise you know this, I think it was Nathan the website window cleaner posting about this.

As you said. It was already cracked Daz.

Only a matter of time before it grew.  I always refuse to clean damaged pane for that said reason.

I cracked 1 that already had a tiny minute crack in it I put hot water on the glass and it split from top to bottom lesson learnt,in general PVC Windows will take high water temperatures though even on the coldest of days it’s the old Georgian Windows which are more  vulnerable to cracking but experience with hot water over time you’ll get to know when you need to turn it down a bit.

Its just too much a risk.

I did the same a few years back, about £60 to replace, only one I have cracked, and, the same as you Daz, it already had a little crack in it. Customer was happy we replaced and our reputation was kept in tact.

i cracked a window with hot water a few years ago not long after starting using hot but it was a very very cold day and i was using the water with very hot temps, now i still use hot as i believe its quicker but i only use it lukewarm like 25-30 degrees.
