Title: Starting up hot-water system
Post by: Slacky on December 16, 2017, 02:40:39 pm
Okay, just want to be sure Im going about my work as best as poss.

When you guys start your heaters up prior to getting to the first house, so when you're leaving home I guess, what setting do you run the pump on whilst heating the system and hoses through?

Is it your regular work setting or do you slow it down for any reason - does it matter either way or make any difference?

I run my pump on full when im working and also do the same when diverting back to tank on way to first job .

i start my van then switch my heater on.flow control on 010 then bump it up to 35-45 when i connect it up to my pole on the first job.

i think having a low flow allows the water more time to heat up  when it goes through the heater.although i might be wrong on that.

i worked a couple of hours today matt and my first job was around 20 mins away.by the time i got there my water was piping hot and nice warm hoses.great. :)

But if you have a slower flow and the water gets hotter doesn't the thermostat kick in to lower the rate of transfer of heat from the coolant?

If the flow is too low then the boiler will go into half heat mode eventually and then shut off until temp of coolant drops again , if its a short journey to first job wont matter .

i normally have a 15 min drive to first job and water is piping hot when i get there .

If you want the water  to get hot do as Daz has described flow on 10 for around 10 minutes this will get it to 65-70 degrees ready for when you turn the flow up on the first job you’ll have very hot water within seconds. What I do is plug back into tank after a job which will recirculate the water again with the flow back down to 10 raising the temp again, once the heater has gone through a cycle of heateing the water in the header tank if you watch the water temp on the flow controller on setting 10 in flow it’ll raise the temp 1 degree a second till it reaches around 70,after so many years of use if your not achieving that temp on 10 you’ll more van likely need a new plate exchanger or burner the exchanger is more likely the thing that’ll block first.

I turn mine on before leaving home first job is less than 5 muinets away water is hot on arrival although not As hot as it will get , never alter the flow rate don’t see the need to ?????

It works like a combi boiler the slower the water over the plates the hotter the water will be due to more contact with the exchanger, when you increase the flow of water less contact hence reducing the water temp.

Yes I understand how it works never found the need to alter it though , Evan if you do alter it that extra heat won’t ladt long as you increase the flow rate whilst working for a period of time so seams pointless adjusting it to me , I find in 5 muinets it’s quite hot enough to produce the desired results , couldn’t be bothered to be fiddling with it
