Great day today!!
We’re doing a small gutter and fascia job when a lady pulls over and asks us if we can quote her house just behind the house we’re on.
“All ok” I say, “I’ll pop over in a second and give you a quick quote.”
Walk into the garden and her German Sheppard comes bounding over, so I let it sniff me (usually do with dogs) and it calms down...
I turn around to shut the gate and mr dog doesn’t like that so clamps its jaws down on my arm!!!!
I threw a kick (dont know why, natural reaction I guess!) and so it went after my leg!
Lady comes running out, screw this I’m thinking, “get out of dodge!!”
Get back to the van, mikey comes running around wondering what all the fuss is about, “think I might need to go to hospital mate...” I say ;D
Couple of stitches later, and some swelling and we’re back home. (Didn’t need to have a tetnus as I’ve had one a few years back)
Gutting thing was, the gutter and fascia job was the last job of the day and we didn’t get to finish it!!! (Might pop back in the morning if the swellings ok)
Wouldn’t be too fussed but I’m not even the postman, dog went after the wrong chap!
Window cleaning eh? ;D

I would of gone awol with a custard if they're dog bit me like that. Would of give her a sky high price for the job and guilt tripped her into having it done for the fact you got a chunk of your arm bitten into. Think about it, what 4+ hours in hospital wasting time too. Defo want something back for going through that LOL

Yep shes gonna be pooping herself from the threat of charges coming against her or threat of the dog being put down!!
Milk it ild say. If it was a human who unprovokedly attack then you would take action. No difference here. You didnt say, but if she didnt give a warning about her dog ie, let me get my dog in first as he may bite etc then action can be taken.
Dont get me wrong im a dog lover n have a rotti myself and people have misconceptions of them due to idiot owners!
But that injury could have been worse and required a job to be cut short, so loss of income!!

i havent got a single customer with a german sheppard or rottweiler!
most of my customers have either no pets or if they have their non threatening!(like cockerpoos or expensive persian cats!) ;D

I’m not going to try and milk it, it was one of those things.
In the end, its not serious and we didn’t lose too much time, it was the last job of the day and in fairness I was seen and gone in an hour at the hospital.
The woman did head over to us crying and apologising profusley before we left (had to get the poles etc...back in the van) so I said I’d give her a heads up on how I was
I’ll just be a bit more careful with dogs I don’t know, especially the big ‘uns!!
We’ll pop back on Monday to finish the g/f job and I’m going to get Mikey to knock the ladies door and say I didn’t make it for a bit of bants though ;D ;D

My brothers a postie and he's been bitten (just a couple of times), he now wears steel toecaps in readiness.
The Post Office can refuse to deliver mail to an address with an unruly dog.
As for us, put it down to experience (I was bought up with two German Shepherds from a baby) so I feel comfortable around them. But I am also very wary until they know you.
Get her as a regular custie and it may have been worth it.
Any nice nurses at the hospital? ;D

I experienced something not too dissimilar to that with the same breed when I was trad. The funny thing was, the customer had said to me, "Whatever you do don't let the dog in that part of the garden," 'that part of the garden' being the larger part that was fenced off and intended to keep the dog out. The dog seemed as big as a bloomin' horse. Anyone wathcing me that day may well have laughed almost as hard.

The most painful was when i posted a " windows have been cleaned note" through the letter box and a Westie sank its teeth into my thumb, nearly went through the nail. Ive now perfected the art of stealth posting at high speed.

I don't clean any houses that has a dog in the garden. Hate the things.

The most painful was when i posted a " windows have been cleaned note" through the letter box and a Westie sank its teeth into my thumb, nearly went through the nail. Ive now perfected the art of stealth posting at high speed.
Ive only been bitten once over the many years and that was due to posting a ticket.
It was a staffi, normally a great dog and knows me well. But dogs behind closed doors obviously cant see and go into protection/guard mode.
Anyway day after i went back and saw the customer and explained what happened. She did wonder why there was blood on the inside of the door and wondered if it was the postmans. I strongly suggested for them to get a guard box for the inside door for their post as this would keep people safe as sometimes i have my daughter with me and she posts my tickets. The following month the hubby tells me they have a guard/post collection box fixed to the door........im betting the postman is thankful

Many years ago, i came to clean a house that had an upstairs extension. Below it was the drive through to the rear and it had big black iron gates for access. On the gates was the usual "A Rottweiler lives here" sign. Now ive seen many signs up on customers gates and they dont even have a dog! To be on safe side i shook the gates a bit and no dog appeared nor no balking heard. So I took it there was no dog.
I opened the gate and carried my ladder through (this was whilst trad working) and laid it on the floor as i was underneath the above extension, so I could close the gate. Went over to get my ladders and i heard the pitter patter of dog paws come around the corner from the rear. I looked up and saw this massive Rottweiler looking at me!! Well i fell over my ladders and scrambled for the gate to get safe. All the while this dog just stood there watching this fool pap himself. He showed no signs of being aggressive what so ever and so i went back in and got my ladders and went into the garden where he was. He ran to the furthest corner of the garden and wouldnt come close.
In the end it took months for him to come close for a fussing. He was the softest dog on my round

The next person the dog bites might not be a big bloke like yourself.
The owner is obviously an idiot dog owner.
You really ought to report it. Around here dog owners get two chances. After the first incident they owner is usually a lot more careful because they'll lose the dog on the second incident.
This has happened to someone I know recently.

Three times for me. One border collie bit me when I wasn't looking, after the owner had said "He's fine, he won't bite", and two Jack Russells. One bite on the calf and another exactly the same as yourself; on my fingers pushing a bill through the door.

I'd kick the crap out of one if it bit me.

I flat out wouldn't go in the garden with a dog. If know there is there is one I knock the door, I do the gate rattling thing and procede slowly with my pole held as a baseball bat whilst scoping the area if I have any suspicion at all of a dog.
If there's a dog out and no one home, I'll leave it.
I remember once a long time ago, I picked up a new customer. She said I have a dog and I can't bring it in as it lives in the garden, we don't let it in the house. I said ok. Don't know why, just wanted the job. I thought I'll just see. So goes to do job expecting no one in, well woman answers front door on phone so couldnt really talk. I said window cleaner , she gave me thumbs up and off u went to side gate. Opened it slowly, great big horrible thing looking at me with teeth gritted... no chance...put pole back in van and drove off.
Never to return, quite possibly the most unprofessional flounce I've ever done no idea what the custys thought never heard anything.

The only dog im concerned with are the nervous dog. Nerves get the better of it and i cant always read their behaviour. These are the ones that nip or bite you when your back is turned.
An overly aggressive dog, you know exactly where you stand with it.
However with dogs they pick up on your emotions and sometimes were to blame for helping a bad situation to be the results

I've been bitten twice down the years. There was a third attempt too, but I was too quick that time (I pulled my leg away and it bit the trouser leg).
I won't touch a job if I'm uneasy about the dog which is probably why I haven't been bitten in many years.
Bit of a tough one though if you get bitten while quoting. I had a dog put its jaws on my arm when quoting once, but it didn't clamp.
"Oh, he's only playing," said the owner.
"He can play with another window cleaner then," I said as I walked away.

Reading this thread started me counting the number of times I've been bitten. I lost count at thirteen. The most common offender has been small dogs, Jack Russels holding the record at 7x. On one occasion I was attacked by 4 in one day. Two owned by a customer and the other two someone let out of a front door as I was passing.
The first and nastiest was a cross breed that looked a bit like a hyena. Bit me in the stomach whilst collecting one evening. Fortunately for me it was the middle of a very cold winter and I was dressed like the Michelin man. I had a very bruised belly for a few days.
Since switching to wfp I've only been bitten once whilst posting a 'windows cleaned' card. It cost me three hours of my day getting it sorted at the hospital.
