You could squirt those sticky wheels with some Vision. Pushing fifty trolleys at a time gets the job done quicker and easier with Vision, it would be the game changer in the trolley pushing business.

Rent it out.  Have a clause in the agreement that they replace any turnover lost and keep their prices in line with RPI increases.

Someone gets a very low cost start to their business. You get an index-linked income for the rest of your life.

I know someone who retired in august, he was a postie . Took early retirement at 58 , was found dead at home on Sunday.

Dave, sorry to hear that.
What do friends and family think? The worst thing of all is that YOU make the WRONG decision, at THIS time, when you are obviously feeling very LOW about the business.
It's easy to make the wrong decision because your head isn't in the right place. We've all done it, one way or another!
If I were you, I would ask the same question, but to friends and family, they will know you and understand more how you think.
They will have a better idea if your decision is a 'rash' decision or maybe you have been building up to this decision over a period of time.
Whatever the outcome, I wish you and your family well.

Exactly Adam, unfortunately some are forced to work on because of a low pension pot others do it because they are lonely,
both reasons are sad, I would retire tomorrow if I could afford to and it wouldn't be to sit and watch TV.

go on what would you do if you could retire tomorrow?that you cant do now while your still working?

people dont just carry on working because their sad and lonely and a low pension pot,etc..lots carry on because they enjoy it and it gives them a sense of purpose and structure to their lives.its good for their mental and physical health as well as material security with the extra money coming in.

Dazmond probably hasn't got much of a pension organised because of his history. Understandable really.

In which case I can see a lot of positives in window cleaning should that be the case. An active lifestyle in your 60s/70s isn't such a bad thing . If it were also to bring in £500/£600 a week that would be an excellent scenario.

That's the beauty of self employed window cleaning.  You can prune and shape your round.

A chap I know was a salesman all his working life. I'm not sure of the reasons (pressure was mentioned) but at about my age now (58) he saw the good life his son in law has as a long time "head screwed on" window cleaner and started himself.

He is now 64, looks late 50's, and is working 3 x 5 hour days a week. He says his state pension kicks in at 66 and he says he will (health permitting) drop to 2 x 4 hour days of the cream work. "As good as the gym" he reckons.

I don't know if he gets a pension from his old sales job (well known firm)  but he has a plan.

Agree.  Unless you're utterly decrepit, I don't see why anyone couldn't cut down their round and be doing a handful of bungalows each week.  It'd give you an income well above most pensioners and you'd be out from under the wife's feet and actually meeting people for a couple of mornings.

I reckon that at 80 my Dad would have been happy with a couple of mornings' light work each week. Possibly not mainly for the cash, either.

So what your saying is some continue working to stop themselves getting sad and lonely and the extra money gives them the
financial  security they don't have with their pension pot.
Off course there will be business owners and powerful people who will want to work on for many reasons but manual workers
tend to do it for the reasons Iv mentioned and the fact that some of them have never done anything other than work and don't know how to do anything else, now get a grip on yourself (lol) you clean windows for money enjoying the work helps make it easier but your there for the money and nothing else.

No point in me giving you a list on what you could do after you retire as you will like things that I don't and vice versa but believe me there are plenty without sitting on your backside watching TV all day, there are no pockets in a shroud Dazmond.
