I noticed a difference when i cam off them, you feel better, but also feel worse at times, but at least you "feel"

citrlopram to me took the edge of the depression and anxiety, but made me very neutral, never felt happy on them but did stop me  feeling suicidal

mental health is fun

Totally agree as there is no understanding at all.
Some people, myself included cant be bothered to go back and read over what we have typed, especially on an informal forum such as this one!!  2nd some people, again myself included are not sat behind a laptop or PC using a full size keyboard but rather are tapping on very small qwerty phone pads and its very easy to tap the wrong letter.
3rdly some people do have spelling disorders for one reason or another and dont you think they know it!! Especially being grown men and had to face ridicule throughout their school years and now, idiots on here want to ridicule them for it!!  Yet they dont have a pop at some if the drunkard wasters on here.......oops sorry some former drunkards who screwed up their younger lives do they!!!
So give it a rest people!!

On the other hand well done mate, depression is awfull. My wife suffers from it terribly, shes had it most of her life for various reasons//triggers....... (b4 idiots say its cause shes married to me......ur right!!  She had to fight so much horrid stuff thru life and now i fight for her its all caught up with her!!  I only mention this for the likes of slacky and other idiots who falsely question or twist things)
Didnt know about that app, will checknit out

It was a jokey post, so I don't know why you liken it to the police; no collars were felt here, Guv.
Why not ignore the spelling police because they have no authority over you?
And I only do it because I'm so lonely........so lonely, so lonely........

I wouldn't say it's abuse, more like friendly advice. Just like when your out with your mates and one of them has a bogey hanging out their nose 👃 or spinach in their teeth , you'd tell them for their benefit, not to abuse them 😁

Bad time of year for it with the darkness approaching! Did you cut it down for a couple of weeks or just stop.

I cut it down over a period of 6 months.

Been on 20mg for about 6 or 7 years. Was difficult to start with. You get these Brain Zaps which isn't nice...

And your moods become unstable. But honestly being on them I became a zombie I didn't feel depressed nor happy; I wasn't bothered and ended up just kinda existing in a black and white state of nullness.

Since coming off them I have been more interested in my health, my physical fitness , I took my CBT and got a motorbike..doing my Direct Access next year I'm happier with my kids and wife I'm finding more time for them and getting enjoyment from life again.

Do I get down feelings....yes a little mostly when I'm at work..i think.window cleaning causes depression especially if you work on your own like I do..

Some changes are being made next year,.extra van and the wife and I are employing someone so we can spend more time together

Mark, Window Cleaning can be depressing. It’s lonely work. Repetitive. It’s not conducive for those prone to depression. I’ve started using Audible the last month. It’s made a world of difference to my mentality whilst at work.

I’m not on citalopram, but Venlafaxine. It’s just another SSRI so has similar side effects. 40mg.

It works for me as I'm the type that doesn't like to stay in one place for very long, I also have no problem with my own company when the wife doesn't come to work.

I used to get anxiety when working in one place for 8-12 hours, the days were like being imprisoned.

Window cleaning has been an easy run....till lately!

I wanted more work....then I got it....be careful what you wish for.

Its not so simple anymore and at times it can be a little overwhelming, I'm going to bed of a night thinking about what I've got on tomorrow and waking in the morning the same, not good.

It's just a period of adjustment I'm going through but I worry about the future because I'm the type that always wants more, I'm also the type to make things happen...oh god!

I'm exactly the same kind of person, always wanting more.... I used to really enjoy the job when I could count on one hand how many customers I had. I do still enjoy it , but it can get on top of you a bit (and I work on my own) . When I get what I want , I'm not usually satisfied and just keep going- the joys of being a business owner

Fair point but I suppose it depends on where you are starting from mentally.
But I agree with you, personally. Sometimes I'll go out and do one job or an hour's work for mental rather than financial reasons.
My family and I will never starve but I feel better if I do something, however little it is.
I've surprised myself with how many 'can't be bothered' days and scheduled days off have turned into half or even full days of work.
Small steps can take you a long way.

Working out side had it's benefits, your body needs sunlight etc and sitting in an office or on your couch you won't get any. Saying that you won't get much when covered in water proofs! But working in the rain can be like a pig in poop.
Office workers  can't wait for Saturday to come were as I'll be eager to get out clearing gutters, it's like a day to myself were I listen to the match build up and the scores coming in. Doesn't seem like I've been working at all but I've been productive outside and I have a few quid in my pocket (or card reader).
Day off on Sunday then it's back to getting the kids to eat there breakfast and off to school on time, now that can be a whole lot of stress!

Just remember you’re not a doctor. Heard that somewhere before? People die from listening to that $hit.

From another angle - so other people have misery (you’ve implied that) yet you suggest they shouldn’t resort to medication if that option helps them. Exercise may have helped you but it doesn’t mean that is the only option.

I found that my medication gave me the ability to reboot my mind.

I didn't feel "Depressed" or sad with things in my life. Many people associate depression with feeling down with things all the time.  In fact I had quite the opposite, a roof over my head, a great and long suffering new wife, two children, no debt, in essence a good outcome from what was a difficult time.

The problem was the feeling of being broken inside was the very thing making me broken. So that feeling of a heavy heart, and a broken mind would go round in circles and was self perpetuating for no real reason. I'd have violent thoughts with it too which worried me.

The medication dulled that and enabled me to learn how to 'forget' that mindset and almost give my brain the ability to jump outside that circle.

I did some extensive armchair research on how SSRI mechanisms work. Basicly the ion channels in a unknown part of my brain were simply not firing correctly and the less they fire the less they work and it's a loop.

So the medication stimulated that and that enabled that part of the brain fire again and keep firing until it fires on its own again.

I knew that it was time to come off them as my issues had disappeared for about 10months and id been on them 6 or so years so it took a long time. When I started to feel like a zombie I knew the drugs had done their job and it was time to come off them.

Luxor is a 4 hour drive from Hurghada, nothing but desert. You can do it, but it’s ina convoy. It’s an armed convoy,  it’s all well and good being armed but the fellas with the weapons need something between their ears. I did it once, but wouldn’t in the current situation.

Luxor is great. I’d fly there, do a week perhaps. A week is enough though.

What part of your body tells your brain what to do?  You can't control your thoughts. You can influence them but you have no control over what enters your head. If you could people could just make themselves cleverer.
Some people can't just get over it if their brains are giving out negative thoughts. The same way that people that can't walk can't just tell their legs to start moving.

Keep posting, Marc; it's very interesting.

An 'attitude of gratitude' eh?

I agree, but sometimes I have a lazy mind and forget.  It's impossible (for me) to think positively 'all the time'.

I meet runners who're OTT about running "isn't this wonderful" they say at the top of some windswept mountain when the rain is lashing down sideways.  And my mind says "No, I'm hurting and it's flipping freezing!"

Now and again I have the ability to remind myself that all of my problems are first world, high-class problems, and even if I get cancer tomorrow, we have a national health service.

In some places in the world, if you haven't got the cash, you just die, often in pain.

Everyone of us, who has the ability to read this post on the interweb is incredibly lucky.  We have eyes that can see, and enough wealth to have a roof over our swedes, a computer, and an interweb connection.

But for some reason we don't feel incredibly lucky.

We're just spoilt really.  ;D

most people dont need medication though.its rubbish.these companies are making millions out of other peoples misery.

The average GP consultation time is 10 minutes.  GPs haven't got a magic wand.  If you come in sounding depressed there's a good chance that after a brief consultation you'll leave with a prescription for anti-depressants.

The GP could suggest alternatives, like exercise, group therapy, mindfulness meditation (which is taught by the NHS) and probably some other stuff, but the compliance rates wouldn't be great.  I'm guessing it's not easy to exercise when you're in the pits of depression, or meet up with strangers for group therapy or meditation.

So the prescription is probably not a bad thing.

But I reckon that 'shut me up tablets' shouldn't be seen as 'the solution', but more of an aid to help you find a better - non-chemical - solution.

And most GP's are not experts on depression.
If you went to see your GP with a suspected cancer you'd be referred to a specialist.
Go with depression and you'll leave with a prescription for some tablets.
In some cases depression is more dangerous than cancer.

Sometimes the GP doesn't have the luxury of time when it comes to mental illness as the main concern will be the risk of suicide/
self harm, you will only be instantly medicated if the GP thinks that risk is high which will then be followed by some sort of referral.
Even if you where to see a specialist and not a GP you would probably end up with a similar outcome on your first visit.

Sounds like you need a holiday, chillax Mr Dazmond  8)

just got back yesterday matt.awesome hotel and people.snorkeling was fun too but really wanted to go to luxor but the reps said dont go as the drive there is too dangerous. :( :(

the country is really struggling at the moment and theresa may is not allowing british planes to fly to sharm even though the airport has passed stringent security tests.its not fair on the egyptian people.

Perhaps some medication may be in order to treat it.
