Title: from pain to pleasure.
Post by: paul alan on September 12, 2017, 09:40:10 pm
been looking into making things day to day easier, found some video of a guys transfer from ibc to van and adapted the idea.

I used to reverse van in to just the right spot then put scaff plank across from gate to top of van tank. take out pump unravel wires and put into ibc, roll out transfer hose acroos scaff plank and drop into van tank. Go switch power on and run to the van and hold transfer hose in so it didnt fly out all over van(again).....you get the idea!!

anyhow here's how l do it now....https://youtu.be/NPkiYzb5OcM

cost me £33 from screwfix for all pushfit 32mm pipe and connections, now l'm actually enjoying filling up due to the novelty factor, when it wears off itll still be a much better way to do it....happy days.

Looks good! Anything to make our lives simpler is worth while.

What connection did you use for your transfer pump in the tank?

I use 1 inch hose and it's a bit of a pain.

Mines 32mm 1 1/4" l think, so it fits right on with a jubilee clip.

They do sell reducers etc so you should be able to find something to make an adaption. Failing that the lay flat hose is only £12-£14 from screw fix so you could change the hose size to suit your pipe better.

Cant find my online bill for these adapters, one to screw into you tank and one for the hose. You also buy caps for them so theres no leakage issues.
But it allows you to connect the hose to the tank without having to hold it etc.

Rather not

Its not a knock at what youve done buddy, more of an added idea for others who read all the posts on this thread looking for ideas etc.
(Its unbelieveable how many threads get looked at compared to the amount of responses per thread.....though i only recently found out you can see the numbers if you access the site via laptop or pc compared to the mobile phone.

I use similar plastic ones Nathan from Machine Mart & connect as shown to my ibc via an external transfer pump. No cutting ibc & no leaves etc in van tank frim trailing hoses.

Takes approx 15 seconds to fill a 25litre barrel, which is handy as my son uses a nano trolley,  and we take  the 25 litre containers  already filled onboard where before filling 8 containers or more without the ability to stop the water used to be messy lol.  Also if you look at the photo under the jubilee clip there is a little button if you press that  the water stays on continues to flow which is handy as I can then leaves for a couple of minutes to fill my van mount while loading the barrel trolley etc.

The pump I use is a titan screwfix submersible.

Don't understand why you needed all that.

Bilge pump off eBay for 15 quid fitted into the ibc with a length of  hose fitted.

Throw hose in in the top of tank and turn it on.

Might take about 15 mins to fill. Pop inside and make a pot of tea and scratch your arse whilst you wait then ravel it back up job done.

I like what you have done just seems an over complicated solution to a simple problem.

Glad I don't have to do all that messing, filling from a tank. I used to leave my DI vessels in van, so I could fill from customers. I now leave them by my outside tap.
I come home, open van door.Turn on tap, plug in. Stops when done half hour later. Worth paying more for the resin

I'd be concerned that water sitting in the pipes could freeze in the Winter.

Cos l have a big gate in the way and it means putting a scaffold  plank up to keep the hose from falling, it was a pain.
Now l just connect 1 pipe and flick a switch, l much prefer it.
And l like tinkering too.

I was too, that's why laid all the pipe work to a fall.

No "knock" taken mate!
I just set this up so l didn't have to hold anything, and then you suggested some fittings so l didn't have to hold anything!
That's why l wandered if you saw the vid?
The tank was on fill whilst l did the vid.
Cheers

Mate you need to get out more or you are making too much money. Why not just use a hose. Try designing a nuclear plant for a hobby.   It`s a simple job keep it that way. Try running of taking the kids for a walk. You need some time in a dark room. Next, you will have the IBC on the roof of your home. It's window cleaning it's easy.  And we will still think you are great.

I bet I'm not the only one to drive off and snap an extension power cable because I forgot the battery was on charge. 😂

Not knocking you as it sorts the issue for you, but what a load of faffing around. Submersible water pump with petrol station trigger would be so much easier.

But would still have to stand there with pump in hand!

Thats why l setup this way so l dont have to do that.

I don't stand there with pump in hand look at the photo above,  just under the jubilee clip there is a little button press that and the nozzle automatically stays on,  while van mount is filling I then load my trolley containers onto van all hands free filling , very simple and effective.

Each to their own as long as your van gets filled and  your happy that's all that matters.
I adjust went for and very simple solution that I'm really happy with, especially as I intend to put another vechile on the road soon, also I have a mate that fills a couple of 25 litres containers up once a fortnight  or so as his is 95% trad and got a backpack just for the odd awkward window.
