of course i will be working in all but the worst of it but will you guys?or will you take the hit and get behind schedule?
-
I take the odd good day off and still don't fall behind so there's no way I'm working in storms, there are better and more pleasant ways to make a living than battling storms but I suppose if needs must.
-
i remember a few years ago where it rained nearly every day for all the 6 week summer holidays due to britain being stuck with the low pressure storms due to the position of the jet stream.just got to get out there and work in it.
i dont need to work in the rain.i could just take the rest of the week off after today but id be 3 days behind which has a knock on effect on next weeks work then before i know it ill be a week behind schedule, losing money.then i also have scheduled time off for weekends away and holidays(weekend in aug stratford upon avon and a week in egypt in sept).
if its really bad i might have to work a saturday too for a change! ;D
-
Unless im called away from work (ie wife not well) i'll be working in it, apart from the worst of it also.
Because im stubborn, i like to take the time off on my terms as in long weeknds rather than being forced to take a rainy day off.

That was the year Rihanna had the hit umbrella, I've blamed her sinice 😁
-
If it's wet and windy I will be having a few days off, I choose not to work in these conditions.
-
we`ll see. my rounds that messed up a couple of days off to re organise the entire thing might not be a bad idea
-
its awful here at the moment.heavy rain and windy.no chance of working in this.however im not writing the day off.its forecast to clear up late morning/this afternoon so a good 5 hours work later on and itll be a successful day.luckily i have a few customers having building work done that are due this week so it lightens my workload a bit.
my round(all 350+ customers)are up to date but this particular run of work needs to be completed this week to keep me on track.

So what your saying is you don't work in wet and windy weather so all that bluster was for nothing, Nathan wins again. lol.

Just started raining here, don't work in the rain, unless it's just light drizzle

Its not that dark lol, using reflection of my tinted back windows. But yep out working ☺ and earning
But i am working on the round which is 5 mins away from the tobys carvery so guess where im heading at 12 for a needed break n warm meal!! Before continuing
-
Well I was moaning about my round being messed up. Even more now. No way can I work in this. Just tried doing a house with a conny and its covered in bits and won't rinse off the rain just keeps slapping more bits back on.

Another advantage of a tank full of hot water (regardless how somebody heats it, as thats not the intent of this post!)
Its a great radiator so for instance i have two hats, lol it keeps my waterproof hood on whilst allowing me to see.
But one hat (the peak of the hat gets soaked) will be drying whilst im wearing the other. Plus any cloths or eben the coat whilst im having lunch for instance.

How can an insulated tank be a good radiator ?

i cant think of anything worse than going out and cleaning half a house and then coming home.a waste of time and diesel.(i have been there and done that on occasions though! ;D)
im just about ready to leave in a min.its still raining and windy but by the time ive got to my first job ill just get cracking.if i work 11-30- 5pm(with 30 mins for lunch)ill still get 5 hours in which is good for a crappy day. ;)

Lol you know i love making short vids

Most of the time, there is no rain on the windows!!

I use silver bubble wrap which also gets lovely n warm. Mybtds nust sits on top of my tank, turned it on to see what temp its got warmed upto just sitting there!
33.3 degrees

Same here, cleaned a few of my own windows this morning and they have just dried off filthy, rain has eased off but still fairly
windy so may call it a day.
-
Half way point reached and self reward with a toilet break and a warm meal. Gammon and pork yum yum before back to work. A 40 min break, dont mind if i do

So one more house left and thats me done for today, 20 houses.
So keeping in line with the thread, this afternoon has been dry. If i didnt work this morning it would be unlikely i would drag myself out in afternoon.
But how many did? Who got rained off and has now gone back out to work??
-
Nathan you old pro ;D
That looks lush. But I'd have to go home for a sleep after eating & drinking that.

I did, for the first time ever. went out at 9, came back at ten wet thru, sold my van at 12pm then went back out. Normally if im not out by 9 im not going out, but got a bit done, its nice here now
-
i worked 1130-5pm with 30 mins for lunch in the van.good day to be fair in the end.a few heavy showers this afternoon but only 2 min ones.strange day.one min its hot sunshine then a 2 min torrential downpour! ::)roll ;D
-
incidentally the job i did first thing in heavy rain i have to re-do as they wernt that happy with it. was a first clean, blamed the rain and said ill pop back next week. :D
-
another crappy weather day forecast for today.its something we,re all gonna have to get used to chaps im afraid.
dont forget it could be worse!(scottish window cleaners must have it really bad) ::)roll

i couldnt do that.id have to pop back the next day and put it right.

Theres certain car drivers that make me laugh, the nervous not quite sure type of drivers but they have little patience but thats a good thing.
Theres a road near me which is quite narrow and everyone parks on the same side which is good. Theres just enough space to allow a flow of traffic in both directions but you always get the driver who waits and waits and waits. Wondering why no one lets him out!! Well everyone is local and have been down this route and knows the guy can do it and wonder why hes actually waiting. Then when hes had enough he pulls out and drives and then hes learnt!!! He can do it and so learns for next time😂 ;D ;D
Im sure you understand the waffle. People will get rained of for work and not attempt it because in their heads it cant/shouldn't be done etc etc. But if it rains for a week or longer they end up coming out because they have too. So whats the point in putting it of when you will at some point be out working in it :P :P
-
serious torrential downpours today at times but i still managed to work 930am-4pm with a few breaks to dodge the really heavy ones.
glad to be home and dry now.only a half day to do tomorrow then weekend off!happy days. :)

I can't believe some of you softies won't work in the rain!!
I live in Wales and it rains here a LOT!!
unless its a gale force storm or snow, Im out working and the windows are cleaned just as well in the rain as in the dry. Infact, the wet windows clean much better as the dirt is already softened.

You lot must have a different kind of rain than me because I swear I can see marks all over my windows after the rain has been battering against them.

Depends how often you clean your own windows. My mrs is always moaning at me as i dont do them very often at all. But in true yorkshire style, i aint gonna pay for someone else to do them 😂😂

so do you work in the rain?it sounds like your talking yourself out of it.generally if you clean a window wfp and it chucks it down 2 mins later the window still dries clear.its when you trad a window with soap and a squeegee that you can get marks.

I work in light rain, my rule of thumb is that I don't work when the rain is hitting the windows. I'm not talking myself out of anything, I am just saying how it is in my area and from experience I can say that west facing windows in particular certainly don't dry clear when the rain is battering off them.......and it's nothing to do with my technique, more what the rain picks up in the atmosphere.

Didn't have time the next day wasn't in that area

Agreed.
Its not just what's in the atmosphere its also what's on the walls of the property, in normal rain it will just run down the wall
and not touch the glass in rain with heavy winds it will run down the walls pick up any crap on those walls and get blown against the glass, its similar to why we don't clean the bottoms first.
My rule is if I don't think the glass will be clean at the end of the day I don't clean them, I cant be held responsible for anything
after that.

Well im out working today and its raining. Not overly heavy but straight down.
However its thundering quite loudly, thank fully ive not seen any lightning yet.
Gardiners slx poles are fibreglass covered at the base pole arent they??!! As in i wont get fried as long as i make sure my leg aint behind it.
Ive heard a nasty account where lightning went down pole and earthed through a chaps leg that went up in flames
-
Yep thunder is right above my area and theres lightning.
Makes for a fun day

The base section is insulated but if that base section is wet then I wouldn't count on it protecting you, haven't heard one about
lightening but there was one on here a few months back about somebody touching a power cable and getting fried.
-
Sadly//thank fully (not sure which) but the next stretch of the street where im working is full of parked cars so i have to get my trolley out. The brush i use with that is a hybrid so might fair better with that pole, tho it does look like its passing now.
-
what do you mean earthed through someones leg?
If lightning strikes the pole and you are holding it wont it earth through your legs? unless your legs are not connected to you body?
-
truly awful weather at intervals today.even im getting fed up with it now! >:(
still managed to get my work done 930am-4pm with around 30 mins for lunch and 30 mins dodging the really heavy rain.torrential at times! ::)roll

Same here , I was on a flat roof when the heavens opened!! Blue skies now :)

the good thing about all the rain at this time of year is when it clears up the sunshine is hot and you soon dry off. :)

It traveled down the pole and out the other end, but how the chap was using it, the pole was infront of his leg.
Not sure if it was lightning or power line.....will try and find the story

Rained here for about 30 mins max about 3.45pm and that's all we have had.
None at all yesterday.
-
few heavy showers but managed a decent day.
Getting frustrating though, it seems to be everyday. what it must be like to get a nice week of uninterupted work done..

Get your waterproofs ready lads - looks like it'll be a wet week ☔️

im happy if i can still get my scheduled work done (albeit slightly longer to complete it).
whats the alternative though?sitting at home and losing a days pay and getting further behind with your work?ive been there many times when i was 100% trad.that feeling is far worse than getting wet while working.plus i used to end up skint too which was even worse! ;D
i always take 2 waterproof jackets with me and swap them at lunchtime.it makes a huge difference to how you feel when wet weather window cleaning.
have a great day adam

Oh yeh I agree it's better to get something done rather than nothing.
Its just not ideal, personally no matter how much I tell my customers it's fine to clean in the rain and tell myself. I still feel a bit of a plonker doing so, makes me feel uneasy standing there cleaning windoes dripping wet thru. Maybe I worry too much
Anyway just going out the door and its just started to rain lol.
Have a good one daz

i used to feel the same pal but you and your customers will get used to it.dont forget your using a pole system.your still cleaning 4 weeks/6 weeks/8 weeks worth of cobwebs, birdmuck, spiders eggs, pollen spots etc off the windows.
any customers who say they dont want them cleaned just skip them til next clean(i think i have 2 out of 350+ customers!).
after a few years customers wont even mention the weather and will come out and pay you whatever weather you turn up in.
your bank balance will be healthier, you ll feel better that your keeping on top of your work and you ll enjoy your free time a lot more.(and your holidays!)
-
What do the 'employers' do when its raining? would love to hear their ideas on this subject..... :)
-
I had an old dear (a customer for ten yrs) say to me yesterday,
" dont know why your cleaning them today, be better just scraping the rain of the windows"
I said to her which ones??
She looked puzzeled by my response and so i told her to look at hers and her neighbours windows.
"Oh there all dry" she seemed shocked that its raining and yet her windows are dry!!!
Point made but i also reminded her how the rain doesnt effect the clean and she was ok and I carried on working.
Thats why its important to educate people at times, because very often people have overhangs from their roof etc and so unless the rain is being blown strongly it wont wet their windows. But because they see its raining they naturally jump to the wrong conclusions.
Also explain the science of why its possible to work in the rain.
But you cant educate or convince your customers if you cant convince yourself!!
-
it wasnt too bad in the end today.left at 9am this morning and it was torrential till i got to my first job.rain on and off all morning (mainly light though)and a bit windy but the sun came out this afternoon and i managed to dry off and get all my work cleaned for the day. :)
its looking crappy tomorrow though.
