Hi all, looking at the possibility in the near future of going abroad for up to a year to follow girlfriend on a temporary job.
Does.anyone have experience of leaving their round and coming back to it? Any advice? Renting it seems one option, and another option is employ someone to work the round and leave them with the van. Both have massive risks attached. Could also try and sell the round and re set up on return but difficulty there is timing the sale perfectly with when you leave and also obviously having no immediate income when you return.
So yeah, anyone with experience of this or and advice would be much appreciated.

Have you not got any sons to take over until you come back ?

Or suggesting his sons terminate their jobs to look after the fathers work for a year?
sure, bet hes not consider either of these ideas ;D ::)roll

Just sell up and build another round if and when you return.

Sell everything, move abroad. Girlfriend dumps you for some Spanish waiter and send you packing. You come home depressed, devoid of motivation and skint..
My advice, don't go chasing women you can't rely on them.

why would you want to follow her if its just for a year I could understand if it were much longer don't you trust her???seems daft to me Imo good luck what ever you do

I just thought that as his business is called 'Brooke's & sons window cleaning ' , maybe it's not just him running it ???

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I am the 'sons' and have no sons of my own.
I want to go away because I've always wanted to live abroad for a while. It's on my bucket list.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice really. I have a round that is perfect for me so selling it would be the last resort. Not sure I would have the motivation to spend another 7 years building a round.

What I would do is rent the round but offer much more generous terms than normal in return for your round handed back to you in good order.
What I mean is normally you rent a round to earn a small profit from it.
What you really want more than anything is someone to look after your round until you come back.
Maybe offer it at no rental fee with the only requirement that it's handed back at the same turnover you rented it out. Draw up some contracts and away you go.

you ve spent 7 years building a round and now you want to risk losing it by moving broad?of course its entirely up to you but i think you ll find it very hard to get someone to clean your work for a year(and to your standard) and then hand it back in the shape its in today.
id let her go and visit a few times over the course of the next year.if it doesnt work out theres plenty of other women out there. ;)

Maybe you should let your Girlfriend go abroad while you stay here and work the Round for at least a few months before ultimately deciding what to do.
Living abroad is a different kettle of fish to holidaying there.

I read it as he is the son of the company founder and he's spent 7 years honing it to be perfect for him.
I agree though, let her go and go visit as often as you can.

Put a photo of your girlfriend up here, there might be someone willing to go with her instead while you stay and maintain your round- sorted!! ;)

Only 2 options
Stay
Leave
None of this coming back, renting etc. Your young. If you want to live in warmer climates, then do it. You may not get the chance again.
If I was your age, I wouldn't get wed. I would tour the world. Decide where to settle, then build a life

Bucket list?
Ironically, No. 1 on my bucket list is getting rid of Mrs Window Cleaner for a year ;D
Personally, i'm with some of those above. You either move or you don't.
If you rent it, it will got t1ts up, as sure as god made little red apples. If you sell it fair enough, but just for one year...really!
Keep it, and find a way of meeting up with the girlfriend on a regular basis. After all if she meets that Spanish waiter then you've got your business and the pick of all those lovely Polish girls! ;D

This is one of those occasions where being employed makes it much easier.
I'm definitely going abroad. Life's too short. Trouble is I want to have my cake and eat it- live abroad for a while, but also come back to a good business.
Gotta make a compromise somewhere I guess. ,

I went and lived in Spain for 4 years while I was courting the Mrs. I had 2 guys who were already working with me and I split the work between the 2 of them. I gave them a good cut but I still made money from them. This went great for the first 10 months then one of the guys informed me that he couldnt continue doing the work. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise really as it meant I had to return to the uk from spain each month for a week to do the rest of the remaining work which meant I had a really good wage in Spain (this was 2010-2014 when doctors in spain were only earning 2000euro per month).
We carried on like this until we got married and decided to return to the uk

That's very interesting m Coates. Thanks. So your advice would be to employ and to trust them basically.
I've got a million questions to ask you. Any chance I could email you?

I'm thinking of taking a long break from all the advice too.
