Title: Thermal insulation for pick up bed.
Post by: alank on July 16, 2017, 08:40:14 am: Anyone who has insulated their van using the silver bubble wrap type of insulation how effective was it any advice would be helpful what type did you use what adhesive how many layers etc thanks

Are we talking Van or pick up here ?

Post by: richard groves on July 16, 2017, 02:32:51 pm: If you are meaning just insulating the floor of the bed I'd be more inclined to use celotex insulation board either 25 or 50 mm thick and maybe a sheet of marine ply over it, no need for adhesive.

Post by: alank on July 16, 2017, 02:36:53 pm: Not a truckman top it has an aluminium security deck fitted so it's level with the top of the pick up rear when closed if that makes sense. So the back of the pickup is fully enclosed when not being used for window cleaning.

Post by: alank on July 16, 2017, 02:44:37 pm: Yeah I might use insulation board for the bed sounds good and use the bubble wrap for the more awkward bits. So that the whole of the back of the pick up is insulated then when the tank is filled with warm water it hopefully prevents things freezing up overnight during winter months.

Post by: EandM on July 16, 2017, 03:02:38 pm: I have a flat top aluminium ' Mountain Top ' for my Ranger which sounds like yours. I'd only really insulate the underside of the top as that's where most of your heat is going to go. It will make the inside of bed wet though with condensation. I'd avoid covering the floor or the arches though as the really need to breathe - assuming you don't already have a load liner fitted ? Spray on Bedliner from somebody like Buzzweld is pretty effective at sound and thermal insulation and it's pretty tough too.

Post by: alank on July 16, 2017, 03:28:30 pm: Thanks EandM it must be the mountain top that I have I've got a load liner fitted so hopefully I can sort out the insulation issue before the winter because apart from that it's the best wfp vehicle I've used thanks again for your advice cheers. Coz the weather here can be a bit nippy in winter and i need a 4x4 so i will need it sorted.
