Title: We want it done with a chamois!
Post by: Plankton on July 05, 2017, 11:03:23 am
New enquiry wants the windows cleaned with a chamois... wtf. I explained the wfp system (whilst thinking why bother something just isn't right) and told them that's the way forward and I'd get back to them with a quote. I counted the windows then buggered off.
They said they don't want it cleaned with the squeegee and sponge and that their just "not getting anything" from their window cleaner, "it's not doing anything for us"
It's a nice house and would be around £30 but put off with the conversation.

Tell them £120.00 and that chamois don't do anything for you.

Their move.

Probably because a dole washer did a poop job that's put her off wfp

Offer to clean one window of her choice for free to show her the correct standards.

I did think of doing a demo on one window but didn't think it was worth the effort. Previous/current windy is probably trad and top windows at the back are filthy so the gate is probably locked all the time, they would probably want a hand written letter using a fountain pen and sealed with wax as notice before work commenced.

Don't waste your time trying to win them over. It won't last - it never does. Just say no problem and walk away.

Thing is, if you persuade them to try WFP give it 3 or 4 months, you'll get a phone call of them still not seeing it your way.  They like chamois, it's the only way, they're convinced of that. They understand the pole is okay but it's not for them. She'll be very sweet and talk gently and kind about it  but it's then you'll know you were on to a loser from the word go.

They do realise that a chamois will leave more sh/te on the glass than it takes off? Feck em, don't even bother trying to persuade them, move on to the next.

I think thats if that's what the customers want then thats what you should do...

I clean the windows of a three storey town house with newspaper and vinegar as thats what the customer demanded. In fairness, I charge well for it; for £8.50 I'd of licked it clean!

You cant be serious on any of these points surely??

Choice is; sell them your service or move on and let someone else meet their demands

I started in the 60's and leather and scrim was old fashioned then!!  Even the "new" squeegee method had been around for about 30 years!!!

He worked with his dad as a boy who started in Liverpool after demob so I'm guessing that's all he knew. The thing is he used a squeegee for shops. Sadly he died before I started window cleaning so I've never been able to discuss things with him.

My dad started around 68 I think when it became apparent he couldn't work for anyone else.  ;D

When we first came back to the uk 22 years ago we rented a 3 bed house with wooden Georgian windows. We had a window cleaner in his late 30's and he cleaned our windows with a chamois.

That's a true craftsman, nothing like these modern day water splashers.

When I first started way over 30 years ago I use chamois on most my work then double scrim half wet half dry then an amazing tool that squeegee thing

But I remember when I first saw a tucker pole bought over from the states before there were me even any suppliers in this  country (OTT and tucker)  it was some   by some young guy who'd been out there he still uses tucker pole and no tank resin only

They were so so cool took me about 5 yeas Before I started using a wfp
