Just bought a 4040 ulp membrane, I upgraded from hf4 as my pressure is low and was recommended the ulp as I would get more flow. Since I replaced the membrane flow has halved ?? Does this sound right?? Thanks

No.
Have you got your pure to waste ratio right? - about 50 50 to start with.

I have it setup at 3-1 ratio. 3 being waste. Even if I had I it 1-1 flow would still not be anywhere near before.

got it in the correct way round ?
taken any wrapping off it ?

Yes I have it in the right way round as for wrapping I haven't unwrapped anything. There didn't look as anything needed unwrapping?? The readings I am getting are 129ppm waste and 001ppm water all be it very slow. I don't understand

so how many litres per hours of pure you getting ?
how many with the old membrane (LPH) ?
the new membrane won't produce faster but should be better quality of water (lower TDS)
has that improved over the old one?

I was able to fill my 800ltr tank in 5 hours with the old one at 22ppm before it went into resin. Now after 10 hours it's not quite full (perhaps another 1-2 hr) but getting 1ppm before resin. I'm not complaining about the quality just quantity. My resin will lasts months at that rate. 😃 I make it about 70-80 ltr p/h

Here is a clip from the description:
Water Genie RO-4040-ULP Membrane
Water Genie Reverse Osmosis 40'' Ultra Low Pressure Membrane
This Membrane is rated at 2400 Gallons Per Day.
(Approx 25L in 10mins at 55 PSI)
Compatable with all Water Genie 40'' reverse osmosis machines.

is the 25 litres per 10 minutes what you getting ? and thats your PSI from mains ?
2400 gallons will be US gallons e very 24 hrs ( running non stop ) and you find that will be at the optimum water temp and pressure usually 80 PSI for ULP membrane
i get around 180 litres per hour with a pump pushing the pressure to 80 psi - TDS is 380 and i get 005 out
at 001 no resin needed ;D

No that's the manufacturers spec. I am getting about 70-80 litre per hour whereas before I was getting approx 160-170 litre per hour.
Working from mains pressure which is approx 50psi

I'm working with 50psi with an Aexon HF5 membrane and get 120 liters per hour with a 1 to 1 ratio of waste to pure. Been around that since day one nearly 5 years ago.

Then it's running slow assuming your 50/50 waste/pure
Best thing is to ring them Monday for some techy advise

Personally, I would have been worried about buying it in the first place due to the price - it just too cheap.
But it seems to be performing efficiently.
Just a question. If the membrane was delivered to you without wrapping, how did they keep the membrane from drying out?

Sorry, it came in a bag in a box I obviously took it out of the outer packaging before installing. The price also worried me a bit.

yes, not a lot about the spec of the membrane at all really.

On the other forum a cleaner was asking about a 4040 membrane being sold by TCW as Ultra Low pressure membrane.
One of our wfp suppliers wrote in reply which I have edited.
" I always advise looking at the manufacturing specifications and don't get fooled by what is advertised. TCW call the membrane Ultra Low which is how the manufacturer describes it. The manufacturer is a Chinese company Vontron. When you look at the specification of the membrane the PSI rating is 150 which is no good with household tap water. Rejection rate is 98%.
It is 100% not like for like on an Axeon HF5. "
The optimum operating input pressure for Axeon HF5 membrane is 50 to 100psi. Mine works fine at 50 psi.
